Sinpo

Sinpo is a port ceety on the coast o the Sea o Japan (East Sea o Korea) in central Sooth Hamgyong Province, North Korea. Accordin tae the last available census, approximately 158,000 fowk reside here.

Near Sinpo in 1987 the biggin o first naitional nuclear plant wis stairtit bi the USSR but construction wis cancelled in 1991 due tae lack o fundin an in 1993 feenally accordin tae poleetical raisons.

Later this place wis the steid o twa planned reactors which wur tae hae been built bi the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) wi internaitional support. Preparations on steid began in 1994 an construction o a reactor stairtit in 1997, but wis niver completit. The last foreign wirkers wur remuivit frae the aurie in Januar 2006.

Sinpo Station is on the Pyongra Line railwey.
