Cuenca is a province o central Spain, in the eastren pairt o the autonomous commonty o Castile-La Mancha.

Geografie

The province is bordered bi the provinces o Valencia (includin its exclave Rincón de Ademuz), Albacete, Ciudad Real, Toledo, Madrid, Guadalajara, an Teruel. The northeastern side of the province is in the mountainous Sistema Ibérico area.

211,375 fowk (2007) live in the province. Its caipital is Cuenca, whaur nearly a quairter o the population live, some 52,980 fowk. Thare are 238 municipalities in Cuenca.

In 1851 Cuenca lost Requena-Utiel tae the neebourin Province o Valencia wi which it wis developin commercial tees. Nivertheless, Requena-Utiel remained Castillian/Spaingie speakin (rather than Valencie), while the loss o its maist dynamic region left the province o Cuenca relatively unner-developit economically.
