Faiyum Govrenorate
Faiyum Govrenorate (Arabic: محافظة الفيوم Muḥāfaẓat al Fayyūm) is ane o the govrenorates o Egyp in the middle o the kintra. Its caipital is the ceety o Faiyum, locatit aboot 81 mi (130 km) sooth wast o Cairo. It haes a population o 2,512,792 (2006).[1]

The name Faiyum comes frae Coptic 'Ⲫⲓⲟⲙ /Ⲡⲉⲓⲟⲙ efiom/peiom (whence the proper name Ⲡⲁⲓⲟⲙ payoum), meanin the Sea or the Lake, which in turn comes frae late Egyptian pA y-m o the same meanin, a reference tae the nearbi Lake Moeris.
Geography

- The muckle fertile Faiyum Oasis, which comprises fermland, Lake Moeris, an some ceeties.
- Sooth o the Faiyum Oasis, a smawer depression contains the toun o El Gharaq el Sulţāni. It is an aa irrigatit frae the Nile.
- A dry barren depression named Wadi Elrayan, which covers 280 mi² (725 km²), wast o the El Gharaq el Sulţāni depression.
- Desert an dry muntains, which maistly surroond the depressions.
