On her snowboard, Ruby slides down the snowy field. Weiss, possessed by the GrimmNightmare”, created a world in her dreams, which is a reflection of her mind. With the help of Shion, a Huntsman specializing in the Grimm “Nightmare”, Ruby sneaks into Weiss’ dream and heads toward the place where the “Nightmare” had taken root. Those possessed by the “Nightmare” will be entrapped in a nightmare where Aura and life will be deprived. Weiss was already in a dangerous condition. Ruby was so eager to quickly free Weiss from the “Nightmare” but the world reflecting Weiss’ mind, block’s Ruby’s way.

"Ice Queendom"[2], with the subtitle "Hyōsetsu Teikoku"[2], is the fourth episode of the anime RWBY: Ice Queendom. It premiered at Anime Expo 2022 on July 3rd, 2022 and officially released on July 24th, 2022. The English dub released on October 16th, 2022 on the Rooster Teeth website.

Summary[]

Ruby wakes up in the middle of the snow area in Weiss' dreamscape. She notices not just her appearance, but her Crescent Rose has changed greatly, but she does not mind. Ruby uses her weapon's snowboard to sled in the snow area. She stops and notices strange multi-arrow signs pointing in different directions. She checks her pockets and sees she has twelve coins made from Shion's Semblance. Ruby uses her first coin to summon a telephone and calls Shion to inform them that she has safely arrived in Weiss' Dreamscape.

Suddenly, Ruby sees a Schnee Dust Company train being attacked by monstrous Grimm hybrid White Fang members. Ruby asks Shion if asks she should stop them, they say she can't interfere within a dream, and she can only observe. After that, the White Fang successfully take over the train. Ruby uses her second coin to create a door marker to take her to the main fortress kingdom. She continues to explore the mazes. After she got out of maze thanks to her Semblance, she safety arrive the main base of Weiss’ Dreamscape.

Meanwhile in the real world, Blake and Yang kept an eye on Ruby and Weiss, who has Nightmare veins starts spreading through her body.

Back to the Dreamscape, Ruby arrive at the lower district and continue to explore the area until she accidentally encounter one of the Dreamscape robots and they starts attacking her. She try to fight with her Crescent Rose, but her gun form is facing the wrong direction. Overwhelm with more robots coming at here, Ruby escape by using her coin to create a dummy clone as a distraction. She tries to uses her Semblance to climb up the wall to reach the next district, but the Nightmare’s vines won’t let her. This results of Nightmare turning into microphones and alert Ruby’s presence. As she manages to find a hiding place, she uses another coin to create map to Weiss’ Dreamscape, but it can only cover Ruby’s current. She quickly take a photo the current map before it disappears completely. She later tries to bend in as a Schnee co-workers and went the factory.

After she successfully infiltrated, she sneaks away and try to find another way into the next district until she meet Happy Klein, who mistaken her for a co-worker. After that, she quick sneak behind while Happy Klein is distracted and manages to enter the middle class district.

Changes from the Show[]

Difference between the show and anime[]

  • Ruby meets Weiss’ father earlier as a Dream Actor on Weiss’ dreamscape. In the show, Ruby meets Jacques in Volume 7.

Original scenes[]

  • In Weiss' nightmare, Weiss' perspective of her family, friends, enemies, and Klein is shown.
    • Jacques appears the same except he is on a monitor. It reflects Jacques's controlling and superior behavior toward her.
    • Willow appears as a shadow figure holding a wine bottle and a glass drink. It reflects how her mother neglected her and her siblings.
    • Winter appears as a book. It reflects how she looks up to Winter and is willing to be like her.
    • Whitley appears as a bat. It reflects how she sees him as a mischievous person and a pest.
    • Klein appears in different forms called Seven Butlers due to his personality disorders.
      • Happy Klein appears as a director constructor robot. He is very friendly and cheerful. He has a pink face plate and a helmet with a heart.
      • Dopey Klein appears as a metal door with a face and his role is guarding the Sillies to make sure they don't escape.
      • Sneezy Klein appears as a robot dog who carries Weiss' weapon.
      • Doc Klein appears as a candle at Schnee Manor to keep up to date and situations to Weiss.
    • Weiss' perspective of Jaune, Nora and Ren is the same, except they only make cat sounds.
    • Weiss' perspective of the White Fang is as Grimm/Faunus hybrids. It reflects how she sees them as inhuman monsters.

Trivia[]

  • The shadowy figures that appear in Weiss' nightmare town are a reference/callback to Volume 1 shadow figures used for minor characters.
  • In the cage where Dopey Klein is guarding, two unnamed characters looks a lot like Dove Bronzewing and Sky Lark except with different color palettes. Although Russel Thrush does not appear in the anime, there is a character who has Russel’s Emblem on his left wrist brace.
  • The end card for the episode was made by Hajime Ueda, the creator of Q-Ko-chan: The Earth Invader Girl.
