Crocea Mors[]

Jaune's family heirloom and his signature weapon. He received it as a hand-me-down, passed down from his great-great-grandfather. Since he never went to a combat school, he never got to craft his own weapon like everyone else and chose this inheritance as his signature weapon.

Because of this, Jaune does not think very highly of his weapon, mostly because of all the impressive weapons he sees at Beacon Academy, such as Crescent Rose. Ruby Rose attempts to cheers him up by calling it a family heirloom instead, remarking that she can appreciate a classic weapon.

In "The Next Step", Crocea Mors had been upgraded by a village blacksmith with metal from Pyrrha Nikos' circlet and/or remains of her weapons, giving them a gold-accented appearance.

Upon taking the time to train in Atlas, Jaune had Crocea Mors upgraded with several modifications, including the ability to channel both hard-light and gravity dust. Unfortunately, it proved futile against Cinder Fall in "The Final Word", as the mad Maiden broke his heirloom in a single stroke.

Arc Family[]

Jaune is a direct descendant of a long line of warriors and heroes, which has caused him to feel pressured into being one himself. To achieve this goal, he used fake transcripts to cheat into enrollment at Beacon Academy. According to Jaune, he has seven sisters who are the reason for his dancing skills.

When Jaune told his parents that he is going to Beacon, they told him not to worry if he is forced to come back home. This was very disheartening to Jaune, as he felt that even his own parents did not believe in him.

In "Remembrance" it appears that Jaune got along well with his family to go on outings to places like Shion. His sisters are implied to be overly affectionate that they would braid his hair if he slept in the same tent as them.

Beacon Academy[]

Jaune is a former first-year student at Beacon Academy.

Team JNPR[]

Jaune is the leader of Team JNPR.

Family[]

Saphron Cotta-Arc[]

V6 07 00067

Brother and sister

While Jaune still has moments of discontent with his older sister, they are still close, as Saphron and her wife, Terra, opened their home to Jaune and his friends. But he is evasive about the group's mission with his sister, giving only vague answers. After Saphron suggests that he and his friends go to Mistral to get their licenses, Jaune later turns down the offer to continue to Atlas.

Adrian Cotta-Arc[]

Although their exact relationship is unknown due to Adrian still being too young to actually talk or hold a conversation with, Its shown that Jaune's Nephew is shown to be understanding and attentive enough in watching and hearing his uncle's tones and facial expressions to understand what he means. This is seen where he annoyingly points at him due to his mother's referral to him as a baby and pointed at him stating "that is a baby!", causing Adrian to pout in annoyance at his uncle.

Later upon hearing of his plan to steal an Atlas Airship, Adrian was seen to giggle at his suggestion.

Team JNPR[]

Jaune is selected as the leader of his team due to his display during Beacon Academy Initiation where he proves to possess qualities of a natural leader. Although initially unsure, the events of "Jaunedice" and "Forever Fall" make Jaune develop a sense of responsibility for his teammates' well being, even excluding his own to achieve it. His team responds to him with full loyalty and are willing to follow his judgment even if they do not fully agree with his choice. Jaune's bond with his team goes beyond simple camaraderie, with him developing strong, family-like bonds with his teammates.

Nora Valkyrie[]

1108 Players and Pieces 12881

Jaune's first team-up with Nora

Jaune quickly develops a sibling bond with Nora. He relies on Nora's strength to carry out his plans and believes her to be capable enough to deal with any enemies she encounters, which often results in Nora being the one to defeat most of the harder opponents they fight together.

Occasionally annoyed by her personality, Jaune can easily raise his voice against her when she does not listen to him, but he is confident that Nora will not be hurt by this, something that he himself applies to any hurtful comments Nora might make about him. He also makes sure to keep Nora safe during their fight against Team BRNZ when Nora is unable to defend herself.

In "Lost", when Jaune apologizes to her and Lie Ren for his terrible friendship and leadership, he is told by Nora that he is being unfair with himself regarding Pyrrha's death, and is assured that she and Ren love him just as they did with Pyrrha.

In "The Lady in the Shoe", Jaune saves Nora by using his Semblance to amplify the endurance of her Aura before both of their Auras break from Cordovin's attack. In "Seeing Red", she supports him as they walk over to the rest of the group.

Pyrrha Nikos[]

Before the Beacon Academy Initiation, Jaune showed no interest in Pyrrha when recruiting members for his team given that his attention was fully focused on Weiss Schnee. However, upon Pyrrha explaining to him that a team can be made of four students instead of two, Jaune quickly starting hitting on Pyrrha to recruit her too. Weiss then separated the two by remarking Pyrrha's achievements and showed Jaune how different the two were in terms of skill. This left Jaune feeling dejected because of this until Pyrrha complimented him by saying he would make a good leader, mostly because he decided to recruit other members even before the initiation. Their meeting was interrupted immediately when Weiss asked Pyrrha to pin Jaune to a wall for making her feel uncomfortable.

During the initiation, he is saved by Pyrrha from a fatal fall, and they officially became partners, with both seeming to be pleased with this outcome. At this time, Jaune shows no inferiority toward Pyrrha's superior skills and knowledge, even going as far as giving her orders during their search for the relic and their battle against the Death Stalker. It is also during this time when Pyrrha unlocks Jaune's Aura and explains to him the basics of its function, and he becomes her team leader by the end of the day.

As his partner and the person who believes in him the most, Jaune feels able to confide in Pyrrha. He reveals that he got into Beacon by providing illegitimate transcripts and that he did it because he wants more than anything to live up to his family's lineage of heroes and warriors.

V1e11 pyrrha concerned for jaune

Pyrrha shows her concern about Jaune being bullied.

Because of his pride and frustration, Jaune refuses to accept Pyrrha's support, believing that he cannot be the hero if he has to rely on others and therefore needs to become stronger on his own. This results in Jaune being on no speaking terms with Pyrrha, making him greatly regret his actions and wanting to make things up to her.

In the end, during the events of "Forever Fall", Jaune is shown to care more about Pyrrha than his own goals and motivations, choosing her over Cardin Winchester even when threatened with being expelled from Beacon and losing his chance of ever being a Huntsman. He later apologizes to her and accepts that he was not in a position to ask her to train him but still expresses his desire to become a better fighter through Pyrrha's support. She happily accepts, and the two begin their road into making Jaune a true warrior.

As the second semester begins, Jaune's swordsmanship improves immensely, and he shows his appreciation for Pyrrha as the one who trained him to these results. However, he begins to treat Pyrrha more like a celebrity, believing that the idea of Pyrrha not being constantly asked out by guys is ridiculous. Because of this and his own feelings for Weiss, he is unable to notice Pyrrha's growing feelings for him, and the two do not improve their relationship.

V2e7 jaune and pyrrha dance

Jaune invites Pyrrha onto the dance floor.

During the Beacon Dance, Jaune follows Pyrrha to the balcony where he compliments her dress only to be surprised to find out that Pyrrha doesn't have a date. Jaune listens to Pyrrha's entire monologue about her loneliness for being a celebrity and the reason why she likes him. He remains silent the entire time and only tries to stop her when she starts to leave, but he is interrupted. Jaune changes into a dress to keep his promise to Pyrrha of wearing a dress at the dance if she does not get a date. He invites her to dance, to which she happily accepts.

During the Vytal Festival Tournament, Jaune shows to have grown more cautious when treating Pyrrha. Even when completely angered, he first ensures to regain his cool before speaking to her, something that contrasts with the previous time when he took his anger out on her. In "Destiny", he tries to comfort Pyrrha after seeing her being down about something. She tries to confide in him about what is going on but cannot tell him what. He unknowingly tells her to choose the option that scares her, leaving her upset and worried. Pyrrha accidentally uses her Semblance to slam him against a wall. Afterward, Pyrrha runs away, leaving Jaune on the floor to question what he had said wrong.

However, in "Battle of Beacon", Jaune and Pyrrha's relationship has been repaired once more.

V3 12 00047

First and only kiss

In "End of the Beginning", Jaune and Pyrrha share their first and only kiss before she pushes him into a rocket-propelled locker and sends him away to safety. Jaune calls Weiss and Ruby and begs them to save Pyrrha before throwing his Scroll to the ground and falling to his knees in frustration and despair. After her death, Jaune travels with Ruby to Haven for justice on behalf of Pyrrha. He gives her circlet and/or remains of her weapons to a blacksmith to use to improve Crocea Mors.

After several months have passed, in "Remembrance", it is revealed that Jaune has not gotten over Pyrrha's death, as he watches a video recording of her on repeat to help him train at night. He appears to be heavily motivated to improve as a fighter because of Pyrrha's death. Seeing Cinder Fall, Pyrrha's killer, at the Battle of Haven causes him to have an emotional breakdown and attack her on sight.

V6 09 00024

Jaune finds Pyrrha's statue.

In "Lost", Jaune finds a memorial statue of Pyrrha in a park located in Argus. He then meets a woman with red hair, who tells him that Pyrrha had to try and fight back at Beacon, and that she must have not regretted her decision to do so. Jaune then declares that Pyrrha was true Huntress, despite not graduating.

In "Ace Operatives" before donning his new gear, Jaune is seen examining the red sash that he added to his outfit after the Fall of Beacon, in tribute to Pyrrha. He ultimately chooses to keep it in his new outfit.

In "A Tale Involving a Tree" the Curious Cat uses Neo’s Semblance to create a clone of Pyrrha to strike Jaune in the back after he hesitates to attack when NeoCat turned into Penny.

In the 2018 manga, when Jaune first meets Pyrrha, he does not act rudely to her nor does his first attempt to flirt with her without realizing who she is until Weiss explains that to him.

Lie Ren[]

V4 09 00070

Bro-hug

Despite Ren's mellow attitude, which Jaune acknowledges, he still considers Ren a friend, even calling him a brother, to which Ren responded that he feels the same way. When heading into the Bullhead to go help Team RWBY, Jaune holds Ren back and apologizes about not going on their original mission to the village Ren suggested, saying that they would go another time. Jaune probably knows how badly Ren wanted to go, showing a level of understanding between the two that supports their growing friendship.

Jaune's trust in Ren is absolute; when Ren begin sensing that Tyrian Callows is following them and takes out his weapons, Jaune does as well without any hesitation or questions asked.

In "Two Steps Forward, Two Steps Back", Jaune and Ren embrace each other before departing, and they are close enough for Jaune to figure out why Ren does not want to travel through Kuroyuri.

In "Argus Limited", Jaune helps Ren in masking the emotions of the passengers on board the train by amplifying his teammate's Aura. In "Lost", Jaune is told by Ren to stop beating himself up for Pyrrha's death, and that he and Nora do not want to lose him like they lost Pyrrha. In "Our Way", Jaune helps Ren once again in masking the group's emotions to get close to the Leviathan, only for their Auras to break when they have to pull back.

Their relationship is strained in "Fault" after Ren snaps at both Yang and him, accusing him of cheating his way into Beacon. Though Jaune is clearly hurt and angered by the remark, he does not lash out in turn, insisting they still have a job to do. Later, Jaune admits that while he did cheat his way into Beacon, he at least had friends that recognized he was "bigger than that mistake" and helped see him through his hardships, trying to offer the same comradeship to Ren.

By the time of "Witch", their friendship has been restored, with each of them acting supportive of the other as they scout Monstra. Due to Ren's newly evolved Semblance, seeing Jaune's confidence serves to boost his own after his morale had taken a hit due to earlier events.[1]

Team RWBY[]

Ruby Rose[]

Jaune meets Ruby when they both arrive at Beacon for the first time. Following her meeting with Weiss, Jaune introduces himself to Ruby with the hope of making a new friend. The two go on a walk around campus right after Jaune explains his motion sickness. He nicknames Ruby "Crater Face" in response to his own embarrassing nickname given by her, and he tries to impress her with his suave attitude.

Ruby is unimpressed but still touched by his friendly nature, which is reciprocated when her impressive weapon caused Jaune to be dejected because of his own plain weapon. Ruby quickly reassures him, expressing her appreciation for the classics. Jaune remarks that he likes Ruby's quirky personality, saying he would also like to hang around such a girl after she left him to join her sister. They encounter each other again during initiation, and after completing it, continue to hang out outside of classes alongside their respective teams.

During the days when Jaune deals with Cardin Winchester, Jaune ignores Ruby's concerns and refuses to accept the fact that he is being bullied in front of their friends. When the blackmail starts afterward, he begins to spend less time with Ruby, something of which she takes note. However, when they meet by coincidence outside their dorm rooms, a remorseful Jaune shares his personal problems with her, including the fact that he is being blackmailed; he even calls himself a failure in front of her, showing he fully trusts Ruby with his personal feelings. Ruby shares her beliefs as a leader, hoping to cheer him up and help him to deal with his current situation. This leads Jaune to stand up for his team, solve the bullying and fix his relationship with his partner.

Tothesociallyawkward

A toast to the socially awkward

During the rest of their stay at Beacon, the two of them remain good friends as their teams continue to spend their lunches together, even taking part in a recreational fight between teams instead of stopping a fight. When they both arrive without dates to the dance, Jaune searches for Ruby to have someone to talk to for the night and jokes about their status as socially awkward people. Although Ruby laments the fact that he could not bring Weiss to the dance, Jaune reassures her that he did not mind losing his chances to Neptune.

During "Breach", Jaune's Scroll manages to receive Ruby's distress call in the middle of the night, but they are unable to talk to each other. Even so, Jaune continues to worry about Team RWBY's well being because of this, which leads him to abandon his mission and check out the city when the sirens turn on.

After the battle of Beacon and Pyrrha's death, Jaune and his remaining team are willing to follow Ruby on their trip to Mistral. Ruby and Jaune get along with each other very well; Ruby playfully laughs upon discovering Jaune's Pumpkin Pete hoodie, and later on, she shows concern for Jaune when she discovers him training in the forest with a training video made by the late Pyrrha.

They remain together when Team RNJR splits up in "Two Steps Forward, Two Steps Back", both of them carrying Qrow Branwen on a stretcher to scavenge for medical supplies and avoid taking him on a mountainous route. When Ruby starts to blame herself for everything that has been happening in "Kuroyuri" Jaune is quick to reassure her that she has given him, Nora and Ren the courage to follow her despite the dangers.

In "Lighting the Fire", Jaune is distraught that he has not discovered his Semblance, but he is encouraged by Ruby that he will find it in time.

V6 07 00055

A reunion hug

In "Argus Limited", Jaune makes Ruby promise that she and their allies meet up with him and his team in Argus as they are forced to part ways. When they reunite in "The Grimm Reaper", Jaune happily hugs Ruby as she was able to keep the promise. But in "Dead End", their relationship is strained when Jaune attacks Oscar in paranoia and Ruby has to yell at him to stop. In "Lost", Jaune makes amends with Ruby when he declares that they are not leaving for Atlas without Oscar. Later, his plan of stealing an Atlas airship is supported by Ruby, who stands up for him following Qrow's rebuttal. In "Seeing Red", Jaune is the first to catch on to Ruby's plan when she jumps into the cannon of the Colossus to fire at the lightning Dust.

In "Ultimatum", when Yang, Jaune, Oscar, and Ren reunite with Ruby, Weiss, and Blake at the Schnee Manor, after Ruby gives Yang a big hug, she goes to Jaune next and they hold each others hands.

In "Confessions Within Cumulonimbus Clouds", Jaune finally reunites with Ruby in the Ever After after being flung into the past by accident and waiting for Team RWBY's eventual arrival. He even reunites Ruby with Crescent Rose after finding it for her.

V9 07 00150

Jaune angrily blaming her for everything since arriving in Ever After

Unfortunately, in “The Perils of Paper Houses”, Jaune’s relationship with Ruby takes a nasty hit as Ruby becomes increasingly concerned by Jaune’s obsessive desire to protect the Paper Pleasers despite their desire to ascend. Jaune, in turn, becomes frustrated when Ruby doesn’t fight back against Neo’s army of Jabberwalker clones, but when he tries to hand her weapon and she recoils from it, he shows signs of concern. However, his attention is turned to the Paper Pleasers destroying the dam, flooding the village and destroying them all. Team RWBY’s immediate concern for him causes Ruby to lash out at them for ignoring her trauma. After she angrily calls the Paper Pleasers Jaune’s “make believe friends”, Jaune angrily blames her for their destruction since Neo sent the Jabberwalkers after her due to her grudge. He also goes as far as to blame her for them being stranded in the Ever After in the first place, which brings Ruby to tears and worsens her already deteriorating mental state. Jaune does calm down enough to realize his mistake, but by that point it was too late and Ruby storms off.

In “Tea Amidst Terrible Trouble” when hearing Weiss state Ruby couldn’t voice her troubles to them, due to the many burdens they placed on her as leader, Jaune felt remorse for his harsh words. He was horrified to see Ruby drink the tea with a leaf from the Great Tree in it and solemnly averted his a gaze after the act, sad to see his friend go. Jaune then furiously demanded the Curious Cat then take them to the Tree to find Ruby in an attempt to save her.

He does find her again encased in wood on the Great Tree in "A Tale Involving a Tree," after he comes to understand that he needed to accept his failings as a Huntsman, to which he accepts that whatever Ruby chooses to become. At the very least, he decides to protect her from NeoCat when they try to use her as a vessel to escape the Ever After. When Ruby emerged from her cocoon as herself in “Of Solitude and Self”, Jaune looked proud that his friend finally got her closure.

Overall, outside of his own team, Ruby appears to be Jaune's closest friend, working together to become more than what they are. Despite both being team leaders, they are able to cooperate quite well on the battlefield, their leadership styles balancing each other out. After their outbursts towards one another, though, their friendship became highly strained for a time. Thankfully, after their ordeal ended they managed to mend their bond.

Weiss Schnee[]

Jaune comes under the impression that Weiss is interested in him when she sarcastically cites him as an example of the cute boys she and Ruby would talk about if they are to become friends. As a result, he attempts to flirt with her and offers to be teammates with her. However, Weiss dislikes Jaune's advances and asks a reluctant Pyrrha to intervene. Despite this, he still saves her when she falls from a Nevermore.

V2 05 00073

Jaune serenades Weiss.

As the semesters continue, Jaune begins to fall in love with her because of her several good traits that he can see behind her cold attitude. He continues to persist in his efforts to win Weiss over. During one of Peter Port's classes, he tries to win her over by offering various date plans, but she rejects each one. He even tries to serenade her in order to ask her to the dance, but she continues to shut him down, much to his dismay. Pyrrha soon advises him to simply tell her how he feels instead of trying to impress her, and he proceeds to do so by picking a white tulip and making up his mind. Unfortunately, he overhears Weiss asking Neptune to the dance and is left devastated, prompting him to drop the flower he brought her and walk away.

Later, Jaune learns that Neptune never accepted Weiss' invitation to the dance and tries to confront him about it. However, after hearing that Neptune was just insecure of himself and his lack of dancing skills, Jaune encourages him to go talk to Weiss to make her night, showing he may have given up on his feelings for Weiss but still cares for her as a friend.

In "New Challengers...", Jaune impresses Weiss with his improvement on his fighting skills. When Jaune calls her in "End of the Beginning", she shows genuine concern for his well being, asking if he was okay multiple times.

V5 13 00004

Jaune using his Aura to amplify Weiss' Aura after she was impaled.

In "The More the Merrier", Jaune is distraught by Weiss getting gravely injured by Cinder, even demonstrating prior, that like with the others, he values her life more than his own. Afterward, in "Vault of the Spring Maiden", he comes by to Weiss' side and begs for her to wake up since he cannot lose someone important to him again. Due to the stress of Weiss' critical condition, he is able to unlock his Semblance and manages to save her from certain death. In "Downfall", Jaune is relieved when Weiss makes a full recovery and regains consciousness.

In "Seeing Red", Jaune tends to Weiss after she is exhausted from slowing down Ruby's fall with her Glyphs.

In "A Night Off", Jaune was genuinely surprised and happy when Weiss accepted his invitation to join him and Oscar to go to the movies.

In "Risk", Jaune boosts Weiss’ aura to enable her to hold down Penny. After Jaune saves Penny by boosting her aura, Weiss sits next to him and puts her hand on his shoulder to check if he is ok. Jaune then looks at Weiss when she starts crying.

In "The Final Word", they were both the last members of their respective teams left "alive" after the remaining members of Team RWBY plummeted to their apparent deaths and Team JNPR plus Emerald and Oscar were trapped on the other side of the portal to Vacuo. Both fight valiantly with Penny Polendina to prevent Cinder from getting both the Staff of Creation and the Winter Maiden's power. However, Cinder manages to critically wound Penny and Weiss is left fighting with a broken aura to buy him time to heal her. After Penny asks him to mercy kill her to deny Cinder the maiden's powers and Winter arrives to save them, Jaune is seen supporting a tired and wounded Weiss to the portal. Cinder then attempts to kill Weiss but Jaune manages to protect and defend her before Cinder detonates an explosion under them which shatters his aura and sends Weiss plummeting to her "death" as well. A horrified Jaune who just mercy-killed one friend and failed to save another, attempts to escape with Winter but both are still stuck in their grief and she passes through the portal realizing that Jaune won't make it.

Later, after Jaune reunites with Team RWBY in the Garden Acre, Jaune was overjoyed in reuniting with them. In "The Perils of Paper Houses", Weiss was the first to notice that Jaune's mental state was all that stable and during her discussion with her teammates about what to do next, was unsure how much she could trust in him due to him clearly not "being all there". Jaune, having overhear this conversation, was angered by her words.

Later, after Ruby's "suicide" in "Tea Amidst Terrible Trouble" and in "A Tale Involving a Tree" Jaune returning together with Weiss, Yang and Blake to the ruins of the Paper Pleaser's village and meeting the new incarnations of the Pleasers, Weiss was the first to comfort Jaune in regards to him thinking and believing himself a failure due to him being unable to save the people he wanted to save and assured him that even if he makes mistakes and is unable to save someone in the end, he should take pride in the fact that he was brave enough to even try to do so and he isn't a failure as a person or Huntsman even if he failed. Greatly comforting Jaune and causing him to finally accept himself despite his flaws.

Blake Belladonna[]

In the library at the start of the second semester, Jaune reveals that Team RWBY told him prior about Blake's Faunus heritage. However, Pyrrha hastily covers his mouth to prevent him from revealing her secret further. Blake scowls at him for almost carelessly revealing her secret to anybody in the library that could hear him. In "The Grimm Reaper", when team JNR and team RWBY reunite, Blake and Jaune embraced each other in a soft hug.

In “Confessions Within Cumulonimbus Clouds’, when he saw Blake and Yang kiss, he knew they will hook up eventually since he's been waiting for this to happen.

Yang Xiao Long[]

Jaune is introduced to Yang through his acquaintance with Ruby. Yang appears to accept Jaune's friendship with Ruby, knowing they get along well. As such, Jaune and Yang have a cordial interaction, though she personally seems to find him unappealing. However, she still shows concern about Jaune's bullying from Cardin and encourages him on his attempts to flirt with Weiss.

In "Rest and Resolutions", Yang does not hesitate to tease Jaune with his old nickname "Vomit Boy", something that Jaune seems to be annoyed by but doesn't take personally, knowing that it is in her nature to tease and that she doesn't actually mean anything by it.

In "Fault", she rescues Jaune after he loses his hoverbike, and later shows anger at Ren when he lashes out at Jaune.

Team CRDL[]

Cardin Winchester[]

1114 Forever Fall Pt

Jaune stands for his team.

Cardin is labeled a bully and is shown to have bullied Jaune at several points in the first few weeks of them being at Beacon. Also, Jaune is forced to do Cardin's homework in order to convince him not to reveal Jaune's secret on his entry to Beacon. Still, Jaune is not willing to attack Pyrrha with sap under Cardin's orders because he does not want to hurt her any more than he did previously.

Jaune then throws the jar of sap at Cardin in retaliation. After Jaune endures several beatings from Cardin, a large Ursa appears and attacks Cardin. Despite the earlier events, Jaune still protects Cardin and manages to save him by defeating the Ursa, which impresses Cardin, though Jaune warns Cardin to never try to harm his team again.

Russel Thrush[]

While Russel is never shown bullying Jaune himself, he seems to go along with the actions of his team. He pats Jaune on the back when Cardin brings up how Jaune got the Rapier Wasps Cardin is planning to use on Pyrrha, though whether Russel was following Cardin's lead or being sincerely friendly with Jaune is unclear.

Team SSSN[]

Neptune Vasilias[]

Brofist

Fist of brothership

Jaune first meets Neptune in the Beacon library when Neptune introduces himself to Weiss and addresses her as Snow Angel, which Weiss reacts positively to, causing Jaune to be jealous of him. Later, Jaune is left depressed because Weiss invites Neptune to the dance. Jaune is about to confront Neptune in the middle of the dance after learning that he rejected Weiss, but instead, the two of them find themselves on the balcony. An angry Jaune asks Neptune why he rejected her despite flirting with her in the past.

Neptune reveals to Jaune that he cannot dance and that he tries hard to be cool, which surprises Jaune. Jaune decides to ask Neptune if he truly likes Weiss, to which he responds positively. Jaune gives Neptune the same advice he received from Pyrrha, telling him to stop trying to act so cool all the time. Neptune happily accepts this and tells Jaune that he is a really cool guy. Neptune seems grateful of Jaune's help, telling Weiss that Jaune is a good friend.

Ozpin's Group[]

Ozpin[]

Ozpin decides to accept Jaune into Beacon Academy and later make him the leader of Team JNPR. When Jaune shows up with Pyrrha during the Battle of Beacon, Ozpin treats him with respect and confidence.

When they meet each other again through Oscar Pine in "Unforeseen Complications", Jaune shows no hostility towards him despite his role in asking Pyrrha to become the Fall Maiden, still showing respect to him. He's also shown curiosity about his background. Jaune becomes surprised and awestruck when he sees Ozpin briefly demonstrate his skills and that he will be training him, the rest of Team RNJR and Oscar. When Jaune laments about not discovering his Semblance in "Lighting the Fire", he is told by Ozpin that his journey is far from over and that finding his power will not be the end of it.

In "Rest and Resolutions", Jaune is angered that Ozpin is still keeping many secrets. Yet when the Headmaster offers the students a chance to leave the battle against Salem, Jaune does not leave and even asks Ozpin what their next move is.

In "Dead End", Jaune's trust in Ozpin has completely shattered after he learns the truth about Ozpin and Salem's history from Team RWBY. In "Our Way", Jaune is shocked to learn that Ozpin guided Oscar to land the airship to save it.

In "Ultimatum", he is surprised that Ozpin has returned and was very cautious about it.

In "Risk", when Ozpin apologies to his former students for not trusting them, Jaune and the others forgive him due to recent events in Atlas.

James Ironwood[]

During the Battle of Beacon, Jaune is one of many students who looked to Ironwood for guidance on what they should do. Jaune regarded his opinion with respect and took his advice.

Upon arriving in Atlas, Jaune continued to act as an ally to Ironwood along with the rest of his team, even getting promoted to official Huntsman by him in "Pomp and Circumstance".

In "Gravity", after learning of the lies made by him and his group, as well as the impending arrival of Salem, Ironwood cut ties with them, intent on raising Atlas into the atmosphere to ensure the Relics are kept out of her reach. He also ordered his arrest to make sure he wouldn't get in his way.

In "Ultimatum", Jaune was upset by Ironwood's ultimatum to Penny and later fought him in "Creation" alongside his team, Oscar, Emerald, and Winter, successfully defeating him.

Qrow Branwen[]

V4 09 00063

Jaune and Ruby carrying Qrow.

In "A Much Needed Talk", Jaune blames Qrow for Pyrrha's death because he thinks that he, along with the rest of Ozpin's Group, forced her to become the Fall Maiden. His resentment toward Qrow manifests itself bitterly when he accuses Qrow of using Ruby, his own niece, as bait to lure out the enemy. While the others show sympathy for Qrow after he reveals the nature of his Semblance, Jaune sarcastically comments on Qrow's usefulness.

Despite that, Jaune shows concern for Qrow's condition when the latter is revealed to be severely poisoned by a scratch inflicted by Tyrian and helps Ruby in carrying her uncle while trying to find help and medical supplies. In "No Safe Haven", Jaune carries Qrow to safety away from the Nuckelavee.

With casual conversation and a lack of tension while together, "Welcome to Haven" shows that Jaune's hostility toward Qrow has abated.

In "Lost", Jaune gets on Qrow's bad side after suggesting that they steal a military airship to get to Atlas, and is disheartened when the Hunter tells him to drop the idea until Ruby defends him.

Oscar Pine[]

In "Welcome to Haven", Jaune is the first of Team RNJR to meet Oscar, believing him to be a random stranger and asking if he needs help. He becomes wary when the young boy asks after Ruby. When Oscar reveals himself to be the reincarnation of Professor Ozpin, Jaune is astonished and likens the boy's condition to a form of possession. Despite harboring Ozpin inside of him and having reason to hold a grudge towards him, Jaune initially shows no resentment towards Oscar and accepts him as his own person. In "Lighting the Fire", Jaune watches Oscar spar with Ruby, impressed at how quickly he's learning in the process. When Jaune laments his lack of a Semblance, Ruby shows him that he and Oscar, who is also without a Semblance and is still learning, are not so different. The two appear to have a distant but amicable relationship thus far.

V6 08 00026

Jaune frightens Oscar with his outburst.

In "Dead End", Jaune becomes paranoid and bashes Oscar against the wall, angrily yelling that Ozpin is pretending to be him without realizing that he's only scaring him. After he lets Oscar go, he doesn't apologize to him from his actions and leaves. After Blake tells him and others that Oscar went missing, Jaune seemingly regrets his actions earlier. In "Lost", he feels guilty about what he did to Oscar and uncertain what he's going to say to him when he find him. Afterward, when he and others found Oscar, Jaune apologizes to him for his actions and the two easily make up with each other. In "Seeing Red", Jaune praises Oscar for discovering a weakness in the Colossus' cannon. In "Our Way", Jaune is impressed with Oscar saving the airship from a crash.

During the group's time in Atlas, Jaune and Oscar start to develop a more friendly rapport. In "Sparks", they train alongside Ren and Nora against Team FNKI, and manage to win through strong teamwork, Oscar even smiles at a few of Jaune's moments of humor. In "A Night Off", Oscar watches Jaune whilst training, impressed by his high aura recovery. Later on, Jaune bashfully asks if anyone wants to go with him and Oscar to the movies, and Weiss agrees much to the boys' mutual excitement. In "Gravity", Jaune agrees to pick up Oscar from Atlas Academy with Ren and Nora, but the team to find Oscar is missing and Jaune asks out loud where he could be. During "With Friends Like These" they run afoul of Neopolitan disguised as Oscar and rush to his protection once her illusion is broken. In "The Enemy of Trust" Jaune rushes in to shield Oscar from Neo's attack and when they separate he frantically calls Oscar's name. After they escape to the academy training room, Jaune tells an upset Oscar not to blame himself for letting Neo take the Lamp.

Cinder's Faction[]

Cinder Fall[]

V5 11 00056

Jaune battling Pyrrha's killer, Cinder Fall

Jaune harbors an intense grudge toward Cinder for killing Pyrrha and many other people. This is first seen in "Welcome to Haven" when Jaune asks Leonardo Lionheart about information regarding Cinder and her cronies, only to be angrily disappointed when no such information is available. Jaune's hatred grows incredibly strong upon meeting Cinder in person in "The More the Merrier" and learning more about her personality to the point of trying to kill her. In particular, he finds her smug and unrepentant personality in regards to the deaths of innocent lives to be positively enraging, prompting him to ask what is wrong with her for her to be so twisted and broken inside. Jaune's grudge ultimately proves to be homicidal, as when Cinder is stalled by Ruby's brief use of her Silver Eyes, Jaune, albeit somewhat clumsily, moves in and attempts to impale Cinder through the head, only to graze her mask and trigger the fallen Fall Maiden's murderous rage at his attempt on her life.

Ace Operatives[]

Marrow Amin[]

V7 05 00037

Jaune and Marrow having a good cup of coffee

In "Pomp and Circumstance", Jaune showed admiration to Marrow and the other members of the Ace Operatives, being awed by the fact that they took down the Geist from "Ace Operatives", without using any kind of tactics. Later, after viewing the mission board, Marrow seems to not really care about to remembering Jaune's name, such as calling him "Juan", "Jwan" and "Jim" (With Jaune awkwardly commenting that the names were close enough to his own).

In "Sparks", Jaune was annoyed when Marrow giving him a pleading stare while waggling his tail; pleading silently to the leader of Team JNPR to give him his coffee. Even so, Jaune still gave the dog Faunus his coffee with a frown on his face. Later, Jaune and Marrow seem to be gettting along with each other a little better, and the next time Jaune brought with him two mugs of coffee and hands Marrow the other one. Smiling to each other, they clink their mugs together.

Ever After[]

Juniper[]

Juniper is Jaune’s trustworthy companion in Ever After. He appears to have a good relationship with them. In “The Perils of Paper Houses”, after it was reveal his deep prejudice against Afterans, it is unknown if the Juniper is the only exception as they were the only one who Jaune has a good relationship with.

Even so, the two work well together. Juniper aiding Jaune whenever it can where by "Of Solitude and Self", Jaune states Juniper means the world to them for being there with him all these years. As such, before leaving the Ever After, Jaune asks Somewhat to take good care of Juniper which they do. As Somewhat takes Juniper away, Jaune gives one final glance before wiping away his tears before moving on to Remnant.

Curious Cat[]

Jaune’s former companion and friend when Alyx and Lewis first arrived in the Ever After years ago. Jaune absolutely despised them greatly as he believed they mainly send people to their death by feeding them to the tree. It is implied he blames them for not saving Lewis. When Jaune demands an answer from the cat about Lewis’s fate, they refused to respond back.

In "Tea Amidst Terrible Trouble," it is revealed that Jaune's dislike of the Curious Cat isn't unfounded as they were only trying to wear down Ruby emotionally so they could possess her body in an attempt to escape the Ever After; the only thing he was wrong about them was that they feed themself to others, not to the tree. He does try to stop them from taking Neopolitan's body but fails.

In “A Tale Involving a Tree,” Jaune’s hatred for the Curious Cat intensifies when he learns that they had killed Alyx when she chose to remain in the Ever After to make amends for all the trouble she caused, which would mean she wouldn’t be able to take them back to Remnant like she said she would. He goes as far as to call them a monster for it. As shown, when dueling against NeoCat, Jaune was deeply distraught at learning the Cat's murder of Alyx and was enraged to know that he had been lied to and manipulated by them for the last few years he was in the Ever After about what really happened to Lewis and Alyx. The Cat was also not above using Jaune's guilt against him when they used copies of Pyrrha and Penny in order to gain the upper hand.

After they are destroyed by Neo in "Of Solitude and Self", Jaune realizes that the Curious Cat’s descent into madness started when Alyx broke her promise to take them with her to Remnant, and they were unable to heal from the damage due to the nature of their existence. It is unknown though, if Jaune feels sympathy for the Cat in spite of everything they had done because of this.

Paper Pleasers/Genial Gems[]

After being left for dead by Alyx, Juniper went and discovered the Paper Pleasers, a kind race that Jaune considers the most likable of all the Afterans. The Paper Pleasers aided Jaune and got him back on his feet for recovery. Afterwards, Jaune lived near their town while also becoming their local hero as he saved them from their clumsy acts due to their fragile nature.

Later on, this relationship was revealed to be not entirely healthy, as despite Jaune's gratitude towards them, he secretly considered them stupid due to his poor views on Afterans. In addition, while the Paper Pleasers held no grudge against him, they admit to Team RWBY that their clumsy acts had actually been attempts to Ascend, with Jaune wittingly holding them hostage due to his trauma and desire to finally be a hero. This created a stalemate where Jaune would stop all of their attempts to ascending for numerous years, creating a schedule to keep up with their predictable actions. Jaune also named them after his friends as a sign to cope after years of being alone.

Ultimately, to Jaune's horror, the Paper Pleasers would finally ascend by flooding their town, with Jaune morning that he failed again. Becoming enraged when Ruby, who struggled herself, showed no sympathy for Jaune's plight and considered them Jaune's "make-believe friends", Jaune blamed her for their deaths. But in "A Tale Involving a Tree", when Jaune returns to the town, he discovers the reborn Paper Pleasers, now known as Genial Gems, who were as friendly as before, and continued their purpose. Their return caused Jaune to both admit his error in keeping them hostage for the "cheap thrill" of becoming a hero, and accept that Ascension wasn't a horrible thing, allowing him and his friends to gain entry to the Great Tree.

Somewhat[]

Jaune spoke very little to Somewhat, including their time when they were Little. But by "Of Solitude and Self", upon needing to go back home, Jaune meets the newly ascended Somewhat. Where he kindly asks if they can look after Juniper, which Somewhat accepts to Jaune's pleasure before passing Juniper to them. Trusting them to protect Juniper as he leaves the Ever After.

Others[]

Bartholomew Oobleck[]

Jaune was seen to be doing poorly in Oobleck's class. Oobleck seemed to be ecstatic when he thought Jaune was looking to contribute to the class but was disappointed by what he took as a joke answer from Jaune.

After class, Oobleck reprimands him and tells him to act as one who was worthy of being accepted into Beacon. This seems to make Jaune feel particularly guilty, given that he was accepted into Beacon under false pretense and did not technically earn his spot.

Raven Branwen[]

Although the two do not meet until "The More the Merrier", it is revealed in "Welcome to Haven" that Jaune was already aware of the fact that Raven is Yang's mother.

Penny Polendina[]

V8 14 00122

Jaune crying after killing Penny

Jaune helped Penny temporarily resist Watts' virus by using his Semblance to boost her Aura in "Risk". He is seen doing it again in "Creation".

In "The Final Word", after Penny is mortally wounded by Cinder, Jaune tries to boost her Aura to save her life, but she begs him to take her life so to prevent Cinder from claiming the Maiden powers. Jaune reluctantly complies, crying in anguish upon committing the act.

In “A Tale Involving a Tree” when Jaune attempts to finish off NeoCat, they transform into Penny, it shows he is still traumatized from killing her as he began to hesitate to hurt them.

Alyx[]

RB 02 00013

Jaune delighting Alyx with his stories

Alyx was Jaune's companion and former friend when she and her brother Lewis first arrived in the Ever After. As shown in the "A Knight's Journal", he had initially developed a strong friendship with the two and helped them on their journey to return to Remnant. During their travels, Jaune would share the adventures he had with his friends in the far future of Remnant, greatly impressing Lewis and delighting Alyx. However, their relationship deteriorated after Alyx's sudden change behavior following their encounter with the Herbalist. Not long after, Jaune was betrayed by Alyx after she poisoned his meal and abandonsed him. Due to this, and the fact that he wasn't there when the two went to the tree, he came to believe that Alyx sacrificed Lewis to return to Remnant, causing him to see her as nothing but selfish and cruel.

In “A Tale Involving a Tree,” Jaune learns the truth about Alyx and Lewis: before returning to Remnant, Alyx had a change of heart at the Great Tree, and chose to remain in the Ever After to make amends, especially with him for poisoning him, while Lewis went back and wrote The Girl Who Fell Through the World using her name while excluding himself to remember her by. He becomes enraged when he learns that the Curious Cat killed her for this because it would mean she couldn’t take them with her to Remnant like she promised.

In "Of Solitude and Self", Jaune was deeply devastated that he had it all wrong about Alyx. When he accidentally inhales some of the burned smoke of the tree's leaves, he sees a vision of Alyx, who embodied his regret of not being able to save her and was tempted to accept the hallucination's offer to change because of this regret. Later, Jaune would be overjoyed to know that despite everything that happened, Alyx never held anything against him and even went as far as leaving a small part of herself in the Ever After to help and fix Jaune when he was finally ready to go home to Remnant.

Lewis[]

RB 02 00021

Jaune happily describing how his friendship with Lewis and Alyx made him feel at home, the same way his teammates did

Lewis was Jaune's companion and friend when he and his sister Alyx first arrived in the Ever After. As shown in "A Knight's Journal", he was highly intelligent and immediately deduced that Jaune knew more about what was happening to them than he let on. Jaune would develop a close friendship with both Lewis and Alyx during their travels, sharing stories of the many adventures he had with his friends on Remnant in the far future with the siblings, who were amazed by what he told them. As stated by Jaune, during those early days when he was still getting to know them, Lewis and Alyx had given him the same warmth and happiness he felt with his teammates.

After he was left behind by Alyx following her poisoning him, he came to believe that she betrayed Lewis too and sacrificed him to the tree in order to get back to Remnant alone, to which Jaune would blame himself for not saving him.

In “A Tale Involving a Tree”, Jaune learns the truth about Alyx and Lewis: Lewis was not sacrificed to the tree by Alyx like he previously thought, rather he was the one who escaped the Ever After, not Alyx. Therefore, he wrote the story of The Girl Who Fell Through the World using Alyx’s name and kept himself out of the story to make it a memorial to her.
