Background[]
White Fang[]
In "Black and White", Blake tells Sun Wukong that she was practically "born into" the White Fang organization while explaining to Professor Ozpin that she grew up outside of the Kingdoms of Remnant. In "Of Runaways and Stowaways" she reveals that Menagerie is her home.
From early in her life, she was involved in the organization's protests against the unfair and discriminatory treatment of Faunus. It is clear that she continued as an active supporter of the organization despite its turn to militancy approximately five years before she enrolled at Beacon Academy.
Despite her later-expressed misgivings at the organization trying to gain respect through fear, she fought alongside other members of the organization and was clearly trained to become a proficient guerrilla fighter.
On the night before the train heist, Blake approaches Adam after he turns down a deal with Cinder Fall.
"Black" Trailer[]
Blake is first seen assisting Adam Taurus in the raiding of a cargo train owned by the Schnee Dust Company, carrying shipments of Dust.
During the raid, Blake helps Adam fight off a large group of Atlesian Knight-130s in order to reach the cargo hold and find what Adam was looking for. However, upon discovering Adam's plans to blow the train up, along with the crew, Blake starts to have doubts.
They are then attacked by a Spider Droid and forced outside, where Blake distracts it long enough for Adam to charge an attack and destroy it. When he turns around, Blake decides to sever their connection and the train car, saying goodbye as the train pulls away without Adam.
Blake later tells Sun: "I decided I no longer wanted to use my skills to aid in their violence. Instead, I would dedicate my life to becoming a Huntress."
Manga[]
Blake is seen with Team RWBY in the Beacon food halls talking about the nature and uses of Dust until they are interrupted by Cardin Winchester throwing Jaune Arc into their table, sending it flying.
RWBY[]
Welcome to Beacon[]
Blake is present on the first day at Beacon Academy, reading a book in the landing area. She is seen to verbally attack Weiss Schnee in a cool manner, using the Schnee Dust Company's bad reputation as a base for her insults. After Weiss leaves the area, Ruby Rose comments on the encounter, only to turn around and find that Blake has already left.
After all the students are dismissed and sent to bed, Ruby and Yang Xiao Long spot Blake in a corner, reading a book. Ruby, forced by Yang to talk to her and make friends, is dragged over to where Blake is. Though the conversation is awkward at first, Ruby and Blake start to warm up to each other and seem to become distant friends; however, Weiss interrupts the conversation and causes an argument once more.
Knowing she will not be able to continue her book, Blake blows out the candles beside her.

Beacon Academy Initiation[]
Although she is never directly seen in this episode, Kerry Shawcross tweeted that Blake was one of the silhouettes shown in the Beacon Cliff launch lineup. This tweet, however, was possibly a joke made to address the commotion caused by Blake's absence.
While Blake does not make an actual appearance in this episode, Ruby contemplates having her as her partner, as they both seem to like books. However, because of Blake's quiet nature, Ruby fears she would not be able to hold a conversation with her for very long.
She is later seen running through the shadows of the forest while Yang is searching for a partner, possibly attempting to scrutinize the fighting styles of other students in order to deliberately choose a partner. After Yang is confronted by two Ursai and knocks one far away with a series of punches, she turns to the other one. Before she can attack, it is swiftly defeated by one quick strike from Blake and her Gambol Shroud. The two smile at each other after Yang claims that she could have beaten it.
Blake and Yang make it to the temple, where they discover the relics, which Blake notes are just chess pieces. They walk around the temple, making note that some pairs have already found the temple, and study the pieces up close. Blake seems uninterested in which piece they pick, so when Yang suggests taking a yellow knight, Blake agrees.
However, when the two hear Jaune Arc's feminine scream, Yang asks Blake if she heard it and what they should do. Blake, on the other hand, seems distracted by something in the sky as Ruby is seen flying through the air towards the temple.
As Blake and Yang stand by the temple, Blake starts to notice all the strange things going on, like Ruby falling from the sky, Nora Valkyrie riding on the back of an Ursa to the temple, and Pyrrha Nikos being chased by a Death Stalker. As Weiss flies overhead on a Nevermore, Blake says she is going to fall (which she eventually does). Blake then follows the rest of the students to an old structure on the cliffside and helps Lie Ren defend Nora from the Death Stalker before retreating with the others.
Nora then accidentally knocks Blake off the broken pathway, but she manages to swing onto the Nevermore and hit it multiple times with little damage. Ruby then comes up with a plan and to use Blake's ribbon as a large slingshot, with Weiss launching Ruby at the Nevermore and allowing Ruby to defeat it. Once they return to Beacon, Blake is assigned to Team RWBY.

Start of Classes[]
After rooming with her team, Blake wakes up with an uncharacteristic enthusiasm. Blake points out that they need to unpack, holding a suitcase that accidentally opens up and the contents fall to the floor, prompting her to say they need to clean as well.
They begin setting up their belongings, with Blake organizing her bookshelf until she takes out a book titled Ninjas of Love, but quickly puts it in a hidden location, apparently wary of someone seeing it. When Ruby suggests making bunk beds, Blake agrees, stating that it would be more efficient.
Blake later rushes out of the room with Yang and Ruby after Weiss points out class starts in five minutes. During Peter Port's lecture on the Grimm, she seems uninterested.
As Weiss faces off against the Boarbatusk in Professor Port's class, Blake gives her encouragement with the rest of her teammates, waving a small Team RWBY flag and telling her to "fight well". She is later seen in their dorm room asleep in the bottom bunk under Yang.
Blake is seen sitting with her team, alongside Team JNPR, reading a book during lunchtime, while Nora tells a story about her dream, which she is heavily ignoring. She then closes her book, after seeing how Cardin is treating Velvet. She then agrees with Pyrrha Nikos' statement on how she hates people that hurt others, such as Cardin and his team, and mentions that he is not the only person she can not stand to see being rude to others.
Blake is seen attending a history class in Bartholomew Oobleck's class. She is sitting next to Pyrrha where both explain a particular battle fought in the Faunus Rights Revolution. Blake mentions how Faunus were able to obtain victory, shortly after Pyrrha mentioned that Faunus often have good night vision. She then says that if the general had paid attention in class, he would not be remembered as a failure, provoking Cardin.
Blake is seen in the Forever Fall forest alongside her team listening to Glynda Goodwitch, who comments on the forest and the assignment given to them by Professor Peach. After the teams go to search for sap, she is seen alongside Ruby, who is collecting sap, while she stares at her teammate with her hand on her cheek.
Blake was briefly seen alongside Yang. Under orders from Ruby, she and Yang go to Glynda to warn her of an Ursa that attacks Jaune and Cardin.

Team Divided[]
Blake notices and is surprised by Sun Wukong who stows away to Vale. Before and after this incident, Weiss claims the White Fang is nothing but a group of anti-Human Faunus, prompting Blake to argue with her long into the evening of that day.
When Weiss condemns the White Fang yet again for attacking her family, Blake bursts with emotion and exclaims that they "were tired of being pushed around", accidentally revealing her past. She runs away from her teammates and crosses paths with Sun in the courtyard.
At a café, Blake explains her involvement and departure from White Fang to Sun. She announces her intention to prove the White Fang innocent of the Dust thefts, to which Sun suggests they catch the real thieves in the act. They head to a harbor, only to witness White Fang agents collaborating with Roman Torchwick, a human, which astonishes Blake.
Blake tries to use her previous ties to the White Fang to get them to stop, but she is forced to fight both them and Roman. Although Sun aids her, Roman matches their combined efforts, only to stop when Ruby and Penny arrive on the scene. Afterward, she meets with her team and reconciles with Weiss.

Beginning the Second Semester[]
While eating with Yang and Weiss in the dining hall, Blake looks over a notebook with a drawing of Adam and the original logo of the White Fang. Yang tries to see what she is looking at, but Blake claims they are notes from last semester and Yang quickly loses interest and goes back to catching food Nora is throwing at her.
Ruby then appears with a large binder full of ideas on how to spend their last free day before the second-semester starts, but Blake wants to back out. Weiss, on the other hand, feels that even if they do not do anything, they stay together as a team, but is cut off when she is hit in the face with a pie as a result of Yang and Nora's escalating food fight. Meanwhile, outside, Sun describes to Neptune Vasilias the circumstances in which they met and fought together, and asks him to keep secret her status as a Faunus, so as to not betray her confidence.
When they enter the dining hall, however, Blake and her team are already involved in a large food fight with JNPR. Blake and Pyrrha fight using large loaves of French bread, but the former is forced back. After Nora takes out both Weiss and Yang, Blake picks up a large chain of sausage links and uses them like a whip, knocking Nora into some soda machines.
Nora forces Blake back with the cans and Blake is defeated when Pyrrha uses her Semblance to control all the cans and forces Blake against the wall. After the fight, Blake jumps out of the way as Yang crashes through the ceiling and is seen laughing with the others.
Sometime later, Blake Belladonna is seen with her team in the library playing a board game, to which she seems to be inattentive. Following Sun and Neptune's arrival, Blake leaves the library and secludes herself in her team's dorm room, remembering the events of what happened during the fight with Roman Torchwick and the White Fang, and her meeting with Ozpin.
She is then confronted by her team and is stopped from leaving the room by Weiss, who notes her recent behavior in being quiet, anti-social and moody. Blake voices her worries, concerning the machinations of Roman and the White Fang, and the relative calm of her fellows regarding said activities. After some argumentation, Ruby suggests a plan to stop their enemies, and the team adopts it, with Blake noting that they are all in it together.

RWBY Investigations[]
Blake is first seen alongside her team at the end of Professor Port's class. Later in the dorm room, she and her team prepare themselves for their investigation, with each member summarizing her role; Blake's is to infiltrate a White Fang meeting to gather actionable intelligence, disguised as a new recruit. Alongside her team, they are surprised by Sun, who, hanging from a tree branch outside their room, offers his assistance to their investigation. While the team initially declines his aid, upon his insistence he joins Blake's infiltration.
Blake and Sun are seen arriving at the location of a White Fang Faction Meeting, and infiltrate it posing as new recruits. Each is given a Grimm mask by the doorman, to which Sun asks Blake why the members wear these masks. Blake explains the significance of the White Fang's Grimm masks: Faunus are treated as monsters, and so they adopt the motif - a dark thing, as Sun suggests and to which Blake attributes to the person who founded the concept.
Once they successfully inject themselves into the crowd, they overhear the speech Roman gives regarding the newly obtained "resources" and their new operations in the southeast. However, after the speech, they are soon spotted by Roman as Blake shoots a nearby breaker box, cutting the power to the building. Blake and Sun lunge out of the building through the side windows, while Roman pursues them in the Atlesian Paladin-290 he had presented to the White Fang's Faction Meeting.
As the two try to escape via rooftop-hopping, Blake contacts her team, requesting assistance. They traverse towards the highway where the battle ensues, jumping from vehicle to vehicle to maintain their distance. Yang and Neptune try to assist with hindering the Paladin, only to have Neptune flung against Sun off the highway while Yang and Blake watch Weiss force the Paladin off the highway by freezing the road.
Team RWBY regroups and launches coordinated attacks against the Paladin, with Blake using her Gambol Shroud to cut projectiles with Weiss' acceleration glyph, weaken the leg bracers of the machine in tandem with Ruby, and amplify the momentum of Yang's attacks. The team manages to destroy the machine, though Roman escapes with the aid of Neopolitan.

The Aftermath and The Dance[]
Blake is later seen with her team, watching a sparring match between Pyrrha and Team CRDL. After the fight is over, Glynda calls upon her to be the next one to fight, noting her recent lack of participation, but she is preempted by Mercury Black. Afterward, Sun asks her to the dance, but she rejects him harshly.
Later, she is confronted by her team with her recent behavior, including lack of sleep and appetite, as well as declining academic performance. Her team prevails upon her to attend, but she ignores their concern and makes for the library.
Blake is seen in the library on a computer, seemingly looking up information on the ongoing investigation of her team. She then catches her eye on a laser but seems to pay no mind to it, until she is irritated, only to find out it was her partner Yang, but before she can ask her anything, Yang informs her that they need to talk and pulls her away into a classroom.
Continuing with the same behavior, Blake informs Yang that she cannot tell her to stop, much to the fact that she will not, but Yang responds by telling her that it is not her intention, but only to tell her to slow down.
Blake continues with a similar response, but she then decides to listen to Yang after the latter asked her. Blake soon learns about Ruby and Yang's past, including their mothers, mostly Yang's mother who left her and her father several years ago. When Blake asks Yang why she left, Yang says she does not know, but to this day she still continues to look for her.
After hearing her story, Blake expresses sympathy for Yang's past, and understands her, but states that it is different to hers because she is not a child. Blake continues pressing on the same topic, she being the only one who can do anything, which ends up infuriating her partner.
When Yang asks Blake on what she would do if Roman walked through the classroom door, Blake says she would fight but is pushed back by Yang, pointing out on how she can barely move, as she could not even stop Yang herself. While trying to recover from the push Yang gave her, Blake is hugged by Yang, who tells her once more not to stop the search, but to at least get some rest, not only for her but for everyone she cares about.
Later, at the timing of the dance, Blake, seen in a dress, joins Sun in heading to the dance, telling him he looks better in a tie. She later dances with Yang, having taken her proposal from the following day, and later dances with Sun. Blake is seen several times dancing with Sun, where she is laughing and enjoying herself throughout the majority of the dance. At one point she and Sun are seen around with Neptune.

The Mountain Glenn Mission[]
Along with Weiss and Yang, Blake confronts Ruby upon her arrival to their dorm room and asks her what happened. Ruby tells her team of her confrontation with Cinder in the CCT tower, and Blake believes Ruby handled it right.
Before leaving, Blake and her teammates are shocked to discover Oobleck as the Huntsmen who joins their mission to Quadrant 5. After Oobleck runs ahead to an airship, Team JNPR, Sun and Neptune convene with Team RWBY, and the ensuing conversation presses Oobleck to call for the four girls.
Shortly after landing in Quadrant 5- Mountain Glenn- and following the revelation of Ruby having brought Zwei, Blake and her team easily dispatch a pack of Beowolves under orders from Oobleck.
During the day's fights, Oobleck asks Blake why she became a Huntress. She says there is too much bad in the world to sit and do nothing and mentions ideals such as corruption and inequality. However, when Blake is asked how she plans to stop it, she is unable to give a proper answer.
Later, Blake sits at the campfire she, Weiss and Yang set up. When Yang brings up how they were not able to find anything, Blake says they have been fortunate before but that luck will not always be on their side.
The three then start discussing how each of them does not know what they want, as Blake says she knows what she wants to do but had figured she would take things one step at a time. As Ruby stands watch, Blake and the rest of their team set up their beds and lie down.
Late in the night, Blake, Weiss and Yang ponder Oobleck's question on why they wished to become Huntresses and realize they still do not know how to answer. Blake thinks back to her past and how back then, she believed that she was doing the right thing along with her old partner and mentor, Adam.
However, she later grew to see how horrifying his methods and goals truly were, despite his assurances they were trying to make the world a better place. As a result, she decided to become a Huntress and help others, joining the academy because they were seen as noble warriors fighting for good by the rest of the world.
Blake wonders how she can undo so many years of hatred once she graduates. After Yang tells her she will find a way and that she has never backed down from a challenge, Blake disagrees, reminding Yang that when her team discovered that she was a Faunus, she did not know what to do and chose to flee. She also recalls running when she discovered her old partner had become a monster. She ruminates on how her Semblance symbolizes her nature to run away from a problem.
Sometime later that same night, after Zwei returns from Ruby falling into a cave, Blake, Weiss, Yang and Oobleck look for her, knowing she is in trouble. After Oobleck informs them of the history beneath their location, the girls look at each other in concern for Ruby. Oobleck says they must go down and find her.
Blake, Weiss, Yang and Oobleck arrive in time to save Ruby, who flees from Roman. After Ruby shares a reunion with Yang, Blake hands Ruby her scythe. They run to stop the train, carrying Dust and Atlesian Paladins toward Vale. who informs them of what the White Fang has, that being cargo and the Paladins. The group runs atop the train as several cars detach and explode, creating paths for Grimm as White Fang members mount a failed attack.
As Blake, Weiss and Yang separate into the train, they fight different opponents. Blake fights and defeats Roman. Afterward, Weiss is thrown through the door unconscious, having lost her fight with a White Fang lieutenant. Blake knocks out Roman, grabs Weiss and runs. The team reunites atop the train and they notice an upcoming wall. Weiss creates a large ice shield, protecting them from the crash and explosion.
Blake and her teammates wake up within Vale above the crash site and watch in horror as the invading Grimm attack citizens. Surrounded by the Grimm, Blake and her team attack and are overwhelmed. Team JNPR, Team CFVY, several professors, Emerald and Mercury aid them, eventually emerging victorious.
Later, Team RWBY sits at Beacon and talks about the events that transpired in Vale. Remarking that they were able to do something about the problem, they wonder what to do next. When Ruby suggests they go to sleep, everyone agrees.

Team RWBY emerges victorious, and the team heads to the Vytal Festival fairgrounds to get a meal.
Team RWBY ends up eating at a noodle store run by the Shopkeep. Blake gives the Shopkeep a knowing nod, and he swiftly returns with an enormous bowl of fish to a hungry Blake's great delight. Weiss attempts to pay for their meal, but to Blake's dismay, her card is declined. Fortunately, Pyrrha arrives and pays for their meal instead, and they are joined by Team JNPR. After they have eaten, JNPR is called away to their next match. Blake and her team follow them over to the stadium, taking their place at the spectator stands to cheer their friends on.
During Team SSSN's fight against Team NDGO, one of the biomes used is a beach. When Neptune tenses up before the fight, Blake tells her team that he is afraid of the water. After Neptune is able to confront the water and deal the final damage of the match, Team SSSN celebrates, and Sun cheerfully acknowledges Blake as she watches on, causing Blake to blush and call him a dork.
She watches Yang and Weiss take on Flynt Coal and Neon Katt of Team FNKI in the doubles round. After the fight is over, she rushes into the arena to see if Weiss is hurt. She cheers Yang on as she fights Mercury in the singles round, but after seeing Yang break Mercury's leg seemingly without any provocation, she shares the crowd's shock.
Back in her team's dorm room, Blake hesitates to believe that Yang used self-defense against Mercury. She remembers when Adam changed. She recalls the memories as a gradual process of small actions he took that led him to become someone completely different, regardless of him telling Blake he was still the same person. Blake makes Yang promise that she is not like Blake's old friend. Yang promises, and Ruby, Weiss and Blake leave her alone to rest.
Blake and Weiss go to the fairgrounds to get drinks together. There, they witness Pyrrha accidentally tear Penny apart, followed by Cinder's ominous speech to the world.

The Battle of Beacon[]
As the chaos unfolds, Blake and Weiss leave the fairgrounds while talking to Yang via Scroll. No one can establish contact with Ruby, but Blake assures the older sister that their leader can take care of herself. Blake and Weiss, with weapons in tow, head to Beacon to defend it. After Blake and Weiss arrive at Beacon, the Atlesian Knight-200s turn on them. Later, Blake and Weiss fight the now-hostile droids and the White Fang forces attacking Beacon. They decide to split up, Blake heading to fight a large Alpha Beowolf and Weiss heading to fight an Atlesian Paladin.
As Blake chases after the Beowolf, she sees Adam throwing the body of an Atlas soldier in the dining hall. As she gasps his name in fear, he notices her and mockingly calls her his darling. Adam calls her a coward, and vengefully re-states his intentions to start a revolution to change the world. When he threatens to execute an innocent student, Blake attacks him.
Adam prevails during the fight, disarming Blake and throwing her to the floor. Adam promises to make her suffer for her betrayal and vows that he will destroy everything she loves – starting with a nearby Yang Xiao Long. Adam stabs Blake in the lower torso, causing her to cry out and attract Yang's attention. Yang immediately lunges at him, enraged. Adam retaliates with his Semblance, which delivers a blow too powerful for the remainder of Yang's Aura to protect her from, thus severing her arm.[1] However, before he can finish Yang off, Blake distracts him using a clone produced by her Semblance and escapes with Yang.
Having escaped Adam, she is bandaged for her injuries, apologizing to Yang for getting her hurt for her sake. Once she returns to Vale in the evacuation, she then decides to run off for undisclosed reasons. She is last seen running across the rooftops of the city alone.

Returning Home[]
Several months after the fall of Beacon, Blake is seen standing alone on a pier at an unknown location, staring into the setting sun.
As she travels by a passenger boat, Blake stands on the side deck alone, refusing the company of the ship's captain. After he leaves, she removes her bow and tosses it into the ocean.
When the sun begins to set, Blake notices a hooded figure watching her, and she demands to know who it is. Before she can go after the figure, the ship is attacked by a Sea Feilong. As she struggles to fight the creature, the hooded figure removes his cloak and is revealed to be none other than Sun. Although not happy to see him, Blake accepts his help, and they, along with the ship's crew, defeat the Grimm. Afterward, Blake angrily slaps Sun in the face.
That night, Blake learns that Sun followed her without his team because he believed that she is going after the White Fang after what they did to her friends and school. However, Blake reveals that she is returning home to Menagerie to sort some personal things out. She unwillingly accepts Sun's company after seeing that nothing is stopping him.
After they arrive on Menagerie, Blake goes to visit her parents, Ghira and Kali Belladonna, with Sun. At first, she is reluctant to knock on the door, but Sun convinces her to do so. Her mother opens the door and embraces Blake; moments later, Blake's father sees her home and is elated. Blake catches up on current events with her parents until Corsac and Fennec Albain arrive at her parents' doorstep to discuss matters regarding the White Fang. Blake and Sun are shocked to discover that her parents do not know about the White Fang's involvement in Beacon Academy's downfall, and Blake tells them what really happened. Ghira becomes suspicious of the Albains, who insist that the White Fang opposes the actions of its members in Vale. The two brothers leave the Belladonnas' residence, and Blake storms off.
Blake has a one-on-one talk with her father, revealing her shame at having yelled at her parents and turning her back on them. The two clear the air and bond, only to discover that Sun was eavesdropping on the end of their conversation. Sun privately tries to explain that he is certain that bad members of the White Fang are around, but Blake is too incensed at him to listen. However, they quickly discover that they are in fact being spied on by a white-masked Faunus, and the two give chase. They catch up and are able to retrieve the spy's Scroll, which seems to contain important information. Blake recognizes her as Ilia Amitola and becomes distraught when Ilia wounds Sun and disappears.
The next day, Blake accompanies Sun as he wakes from his injury. She tells him she left her team behind in order to keep them safe. However, Blake realizes her mistake when Sun argues that shutting her friends out hurts more than any physical injury an enemy can give. Kali and Ghira inform Blake and Sun about Adam Taurus' efforts to take control of the White Fang and lead a full-scale attack on Haven Academy. Blake proposes to mount an effort to take back the White Fang.

Battling the White Fang[]
Sometime after, Blake and Sun chase an associate of Ilia through a crowded Menagerie marketplace, but Ilia helps the man escape. Blake confronts the Albain brothers with her parents and Sun about Ilia's Scroll on a later day, though they are unable to arrest the pair due to lack of evidence. That night, Ilia confronts her and pleads for her to forget her plan and leave Menagerie before it is too late. Blake coldly replies that Ilia is going to have to make her leave.
As the Belladonna family goes public at a speaking event about Adam Taurus' plans, Ilia interrupts just as Blake is about to speak. Blake watches as Ilia tells the crowd "the Belladonnas are the worst kind of Faunus" and to join Adam's movement.
Following the press conference, Blake sets out with Sun to gather signatures for the defense of Haven but to no avail. As the two of them take a break, Blake shares with Sun about how dangerous Adam has become and how worried she is that Ilia might be easily influenced by his ideals. She decides to try and help Ilia in the same matter as Sun has helped her.
One night, Blake and Sun prepare to do another recruitment. On the balcony, she finds a note from Ilia asking to meet with her alone. When Sun calls for her, Blake says she needs to take of something first, showing uneasiness on her face. Out in the streets, Blake finds Ilia and assures her Blake and her family will keep her safe. Ilia's White Fang allies suddenly ambush and capture Blake. Ilia tells Blake she is to be sent to Adam in Mistral while her parents are assassinated. As she is about to be taken to the docks, Blake is rescued by Sun, whom she had brought to follow her. With her parents in danger, Blake and Sun rush back to the manor as Blake tries to call her mother.
Blake arrives at her house in time to intervene in her father's fight against the Albain brothers. She traps their weapons in an ice clone of herself. Though she wants to fight alongside her father, he tells her to leave him with Sun and help Kali instead. On her way to find her mother, Blake crosses paths with Ilia in an open room, and the two hesitate before drawing their weapons.
During their battle, Blake is at a disadvantage when Ilia dims the lights. Though Blake uses night vision to retrieve her weapon, Ilia's chameleon trait hides her. Needing light, Blake shoots Fire Dust at the room's plant tier and continues the fight. Eventually, Blake disarms and pins Ilia on the ground and tries again to reason with her, saying Ilia's violent path is not what her parents would have wanted. When Ghira appears and is suddenly stabbed in the back by Fennec, Blake is knocked over by Ilia, prompting Sun to attack the chameleon Faunus. Ilia is pinned to a pillar, and Blake pleads for her and Sun to stop fighting. The pillar buckles and breaks, sending a broken section of the upper walkway falling. Ghira saves Ilia from being crushed under it, and Fennec rushes for the killing blow. Blake quickly pulls her father from under the debris while Fennec is crushed and dies in the ensuing explosion.
After Blake and the others from the altercation emerge outside, Blake delivers her speech to the people of Menagerie about how the Faunus are just as capable of hate and violence as Humans. She reiterates Ghira's point that Adam will further tarnish the reputation of the White Fang in attacking Haven and decides to head there to stop him. When Ilia volunteers to go with her and a guard stops her, Blake asks for her to come, having forgiven her friend. Many citizens volunteer to join her, and Blake tells her parents she knows a ship captain who owes her and Sun a favor.

Yang expresses how it will take a while for things to be back to normal while also being grateful that the team is together.
However, Grimm suddenly attack the train, and the heroes climb to the top to battle them. After a tunnel and the Relic's Grimm attraction complicate things, Jaune, Ren and Nora lead the front cars safely to Argus while Blake decouples the train, leaving the rear cars to fight off the Manticore and Sphinx Grimm. She briefly sees an image of Adam before rejoining her friends. As the team lands the killing blow to the Sphinx, it spits a fireball at the train tracks, derailing the train and sending Team RWBY, Qrow and Oscar into a snowy forest. Maria Calavera, an old woman who happened to stay in the rear cars, comes out and greets them.
Shortly afterward, Blake is angered that they have been attracting the Grimm thanks to the Relic, which was something that Ozpin had just mentioned to them back on the train. As Team RWBY confronts Ozpin, Oscar fights for control of his body and urges Ruby to summon Jinn from the Relic. While the group is stunned by the being's sudden appearance, they learn that there are still two questions for her to answer, meaning that Ozpin had lied to them earlier. When Qrow speaks up, Blake quickly readies her weapon, only for him to give his advice to Ruby about doing what she thinks is right. After the team leader asks Jinn about Ozpin's secret, they are separated from each other and transported to a white space. Jinn then begins to answer the question in the form of a story, and the heroes learn that Salem was once human.
After learning of Salem and Ozma's past and that Ozpin cannot kill his former lover, Blake and her teammates stare down angrily at Ozpin as any faith they had in him is lost. When the Headmaster seals himself in Oscar's mind, Blake becomes worried as to what the group is to do now that they have seemingly lost their leader. But they are then directed by Maria to stop their negative emotions and directs them to a nearby trail to try and find shelter from the snowstorm. They eventually find a farm estate that seems mysteriously abandoned and enter to get out of the storm.

Nightmare of Brunswick Farms[]
The group has trouble entering the main house, prompting Qrow to break their way through. After closing the door, Blake informs the group of a chimney she saw and suggests that they start a fire. She then talks with Ruby and they try to figure out why the estate seems abandoned. Suddenly, they hear Weiss scream from the master bedroom and rush in to find a pair of decomposed corpses on the bed. As the group gathers around the fire, Blake places a blanket on Weiss' shoulders to help keep her warm. Later, they learn from Qrow that everyone else on the estate suffered the same fate, and they now have no choice but to spend the night at the manor due to the snowstorm.
After Ruby suggests that there should be supplies for them to use, Blake goes out with Yang to find a vehicle. The pair looks into a shed and finds a flatbed. Suddenly, Yang has a flashback of Adam, and Blake sees her PTSD act up in her left hand. She then tells her partner about how her ex-lover draws his strength in controlling others and making them feel inferior. Blake then takes Yang's prosthetic hand and assures her that she will stand by her side if Adam returns. But things turn sour when she says that she will protect Yang, unintentionally offending her friend, who turns around to go back to the main house.
Later that night, Blake gloomily sits with Weiss and Yang around the fire before Ruby tells them that they are leaving first thing in the morning. The next day, they are about to leave when Qrow's Semblance flattens one of the tires. Blake laments that they are fighting just to get by, and then she and Weiss side with Yang's argument that they should drop the Relic of Knowledge at the bottom of the nearby well so that it can be hidden from Salem for a while. After Ruby unintentionally drops the lamp down the well, the team unwillingly agrees to go down the well for the Relic. But when their leader finds the lamp, they are attacked a flock of Apathy. With Maria urging them, they run through the tunnels and find an exit in the cellar but are attacked again by the Apathy and collapse. With her willpower practically drained, Blake lays lifelessly on the floor as an Apathy is about to kill her. Ruby instinctively activates her silver eyes, stunning the Grimm for Blake to get away. When the Apathy attack again and they all collapse, they are saved by Ruby who unleashes her powers again with more control and destroys all of the Apathy in the cellar. They then escape the cellar and hurriedly leave Brunswick Farms.
While on the road, the group learns from Maria that using the Apathy was Bartleby's futile attempt to save money with this Grimm. After Yang apologizes about giving up, Blake assures her that it was the fault of the Apathy for their sullen behaviors earlier.

A Brief Respite[]
The group learns Maria was a Silver-Eyed Warrior known as the Grimm Reaper, but she was blinded and went into hiding out of fear. All of a sudden, they get a call from Jaune on Ruby's Scroll and discover they have reached Argus. After reuniting with Jaune, Ren and Nora and riding the trolley through the city, they find Jaune's sister, Saphron Cotta-Arc, and her son, Adrian Cotta-Arc. Saphron takes them to her home, where they meet her wife, Terra Cotta-Arc, and they enjoy sandwiches. Team RWBY plans to get through the Argus military base the next day, but when they go, its front gate quickly closes before them.
There the group meets Caroline Cordovin, who is in charge of the military base and only allows Weiss to return home in Atlas. The Commander considers everyone else questionable and looks specifically at Blake, which offends the Faunus. When the gates close on them again and Qrow goes out to drink, Team RWBY and Oscar are left to tell Team JNR about Ozpin and Salem. In the end, the entire group is left disheartened and needing time by themselves. When they later come back together, Blake sadly announces that Oscar is missing.
The group then goes on a search for Oscar. Unable to find him, Team RWBY and Maria return to the house at night where they find Qrow drunk on the front steps. After Jaune and his group then return, everyone is surprised to find Oscar with a new outfit. Inside the house, Blake and the others listen to Jaune's offer of stealing an Atlas airship and are sad when Qrow later turns down the idea. However, the group's spirits are lifted again when Ruby decides to hear Jaune out and that they should do things their way.

The Airship Heist[]
Blake's part of the airship heist is to disable the military radar tower with Yang's help. Yang brings her to the tower via Bumblebee. Blake fails to do so, however, meaning Weiss and Maria are spotted on their way to pick up the rest of the heroes in the stolen airship. As Blake arrives at the radio tower, Adam attacks. They battle across the relay tower until Adam has Blake in a chokehold over a railing. Blake steps on Adam's foot, sending both of them falling into the forest. Blake tells Adam to let go of the past, and he asks if she threw memories of him away. They engage in a standoff.
The battle resumes across the forest as Blake focuses on evading Adam. Adam counters and he manages to slice her coat off. The battle eventually reaches a waterfall clearing as Blake loses her endurance. Adam throws her around, calling her selfish and cowardly, and Blake retorts that he is delusional. Still on the ground, Blake blocks another blow with Gambol Shroud, and Adam's strike is powerful enough that it breaks through the katana blade. With Adam clearly overpowering Blake, he takes the cover off his eyes and tells Blake that she hurt him more by leaving him more than anyone else ever had. He asks how it feels to be alone before stabbing her in the same spot as he did at Beacon, though Blake had left a clone behind and picked up her sheath, saying she is not alone. At that moment, Yang flies over the cliffside and drops Bumblebee directly onto Adam.
Yang fights for Blake, trading even blows with Adam until Blake tells her what Adam's Semblance is - the ability to store and return damage with his sword. After Yang withstands a strong blow from his Semblance, she urges Adam to leave them alone as a last warning. He asks if she believes that or if she is worried she will die trying to protect Blake. Calming down Yang by holding her hand, Blake states that she and Yang are protecting each other.
Blake tells Adam that she has people who care for her, insinuating Adam never did and that she would not leave them. Adam mentions that Blake made the same promise to him once before, and Yang rebuts that he was manipulating her. Blake and Yang engage Adam once more, landing a succession of hits by working together. Blake backflips to Gambol Shroud and throws it at Adam, only for him to redirect the attack back to her. Yang grabs control of Blake's weapon, and with the ribbon, she sends Blake careening toward Adam, and Blake lands a forceful connection with Adam's sword. Adam gets the better of her, however, sending Blake flying back, just as fast as the impact, directly into a cliff face. Blake's Aura broken on impact, she catches herself and free climbs while Yang and Adam continue fighting. Yang pays attention to Blake's position as she fights, so when she throws Adam's sword over the edge, Blake sucker punches him when he tries to reclaim his sword. Adam stumbles back, stepping on Gambol Shroud with his Aura already broken.
Blake retrieves her weapon faster than Adam can. Blake and Yang, both with severed pieces of Blake's blade, stab cleanly through both sides of Adam's torso. After the two pull out the blades, Adam hobbles aimlessly until his lifeless body falls over the cliff's edge into the water. Blake, having killed the man who defined much of her life, breaks into tears. Yang comforts her, and Blake swears she will keep her promise never to leave Yang again.
Blake and Yang reconvene with the group at the cliff, the heroes having disabled the mech while a Leviathan and several Grimm are set upon Argus. Everyone boards the stolen airship, and Yang and Ruby console Blake as she blames the invasion on herself for failing her part of the plan. Maria asks if they should abandon Argus, but Blake and others disagree, deciding to deal with the Grimm. Blake stabilizes Weiss as she summons a Lancer for Ruby. Ruby is successful, and Cordovin allows the heroes to leave for Atlas.
Aboard the airship, Blake and Yang share what happened with Adam, and Weiss empathizes, saying she is glad Yang was there to help. Yang takes Blake's hand, saying they were there for each other, and Blake smiles. Blake expresses her gratitude when the conversation shifts to Oscar successfully crash-landing a plane and is shocked to hear Ozpin has been mentally present in the farmhand. On approach to Atlas, Blake enjoys the view, yet she worries about the military's overt presence. A voice on the radio welcomes them to the Kingdom.

From Mantle to Atlas[]
Cautiously, Blake and the group decide to fly down to Mantle instead of trying to meet Ironwood directly. Along the way, they leave the Manta behind, and Maria leads them through Mantle to what turns out to be Pietro Polendina's pharmacy. The heroes talk to him and try to ask him to meet Ironwood.
Suddenly, however, an alarm sounds, and Blake and the group fight an onslaught of Sabyrs. Penny interrupts the fight and finishes the last of the Grimm before sharing an oddly heartwarming reunion with the heroes. After Penny leaves to fight more Grimm, the Ace-Ops arrest the heroes for unauthorized weapon use, seizing their weapons and the Relic, and putting them in a transport bound for Atlas.
On the airship they meet Forrest, a supporter of Robyn Hill. They talk about her with Forrest for a short while before they are delivered to Ironwood and released from their restraints. Shortly after that, Ironwood reveals his plans to the group while Ruby decides to withhold information about what happened on their way to Atlas from Ironwood.
Later the group, minus Qrow, is lead to Atlas Academy where they can rest.

Start of Professional Career[]
After completing a mission to secure the launch site for the Amity Communication Tower, Ironwood grants Blake and her friends their Huntsmen licenses. As now official Huntsmen, Blake and her friends go through several training exercises with the Ace Operatives to improve their skills. They also do Huntsmen missions to assist the construction of Amity Tower, defend Mantle from any Grimm attacks, and hunt any loose Grimm.
During one of these missions, they discover a strange orb that attracted the Grimm towards it. After finding this one and leaving it with Pietro Polendina, the team head to Essen and help the people when they attack a Megoliath harming the town and are saved by Team BRIR before they are chased out by Bram Thornmane. After learning from Poetry that the orb is from the abandoned military base Fort Arrowfell, the team leave the orb in Thornmane's possession who gives it to lieutenant colonel Olive Harper to investigate while Team RWBY help the Ace Operatives with their own missions. Once they are finished, they learn from Harper that the technology seems to have come from Amoncio Glass and the team confront him about the orb.
Once they learn that the orbs were designed to attract the Grimm, they learn from Harper that Glass got the technology from someone in the military and Ironwood reveals that the only person that could extract the emotions needed to power the orbs was Mantle's most well-respected Union leader Hanlon Fifestone due to his Semblance having that power and order that he be arrested. While trying to find his location, Qrow helps the team by using five security drones to help them and the team obtain all five by helping out the people in the surrounding areas, including Winter Schnee, and find out that Fifestone is at the Mantle industrial center. The team manage to arrive in time to see Fifestone extract the emotions from one of his fellow co-workers as Blake kicks him through a wall. After defeating him and Blake reprimanding Fifestone for harming the very people he was supposed to be protecting, Fifestone activated four hidden orbs throughout the Kingdom as Team RWBY had to search for all of them.
After locating all of the orbs, Team RWBY were to assist with helping a train holding an entire Atlas Military battalion reach the stronghold of the mastermind behind the conspiracy. When they entered the train however, the Atlesian forces onboard turned hostile as Ruby realized at Harper had set them up and was actually a part of the conspiracy before the train crashed into nearby ruins and the team was confronted by Team BRIR under the false impression that they were the ones responsible as Thornmane had hired them to stop them. Once they defeat Team BRIR and learn that Thornmane was the true mastermind and caused the attacks so Ironwood would be seen in a negative light by the people, they head to Fort Arrowfell to confront him and Harper while locating Team BRIR in the "Crystal Nexus" underneath Solitas due to them being the "Keepers of Arrowfell" and having access to the base while they apologize for attacking them and being tricked by Thornmane. After entering the base and finding a remorseful Harper planning to turn herself in, the team eventually confront Thornmane at the deepest part of Fort Arrowfell and defeat him. After he is taken away, Ironwood congratulated the team for completing their first big mission as Huntresses as the team celebrate.[2]
After the election night incident at the Mantle Warehouse, Ironwood tasks Blake, Yang, and the Ace-Ops to find and arrest Robyn and her Happy Huntresses after began stealing some supply shipment trucks during a curfew and a ban on public gatherings, delaying the launch of the Amity Communications Tower. En route, Yang suggests it would have been better to explain to Ironwood all they knew about Salem, but based on his reaction to what he does know, Blake disagrees. Discussing the situation, Blake alludes to the death of Adam Taurus, and worries about the potential confrontation with Robyn. Yang suggests they not confront her.
When attempting one heist, however, Robyn discovers Blake and Yang and quickly orders her Happy Huntresses to make their separate escape and regroup at their hideout. Robyn flees as Yang and Blake give chase, but they are adamant about talking and inform her about Ironwood's secret project. Skeptical at first, Robyn tells one of the two to hold her hand and reminds them that they do not have much time before the Ace-Ops arrives. When Blake takes Robyn's hand, Robyn uses her Semblance and asks the cat Faunus about Ironwood's motives in the tundra. Despite Blake telling the truth, Robyn questions why Ironwood keeps it a secret. Blake says that he cannot trust anyone and that if certain people in Atlas find out, they will try to destroy Amity.
Before parting ways with Yang and Blake, Robyn swears that she will never stop until she finds out the truth.
Ironwood and his subordinates are invited by Jacques to a private dinner party at his mansion to defend his council position. Blake and her friends are invited along too as a precaution in case the council needs more witnesses. Before leaving, Team RWBY and Oscar discuss their suspicions of Jacques and his suspicious election victory and possible ties to the hacker in the security network. They decide for Weiss to sneak off in the mansion and search his office for clues. Weiss successfully sneaks to his office during the party and, with some help from her mother, obtains a recording of her father and Arthur Watts striking a deal for Watts to rig the election in exchange for humiliating Ironwood. Weiss shows the footage to the council resulting in Jacques being stripped of his rank and arrested.
Meanwhile Watts, using Jacques' council credentials, hacks into the Mantle heating grid and deactivates the heat throughout the city, freezing the citizens. The public assume Atlas to be freezing them out and cause a huge riot and fire in the streets, attracting a massive Grimm invasion. With the panic Ironwood was afraid of already happening, Ruby and Oscar convince him to tell the council and Robyn of Salem, which he agrees and complies with. Before the Ace Operatives, Team RWBY and Team JNR deploy to Mantle to protect the citizens and repel the Grimm, Ruby and Oscar agree to reveal the truth of Ozpin's disappearance and Salem's immortality to Ironwood, which Oscar stays behind to do.
The Huntsmen fly into Mantle on an airship but are shot down by Teryx Grimm. They split up into teams of 3 to help as many civilians as possible, with Blake being on a team with Yang and Elm Ederne. As they battle the Grimm, Ironwood releases a broadcast to Mantle and Atlas revealing the existence of Salem, her associates and their responsibility with their attacks on Beacon, Mistral and Mantle much to Blake's relief.

Fallout with Atlas[]
During the evacuations, Blake and the other Huntsmen suddenly receive a message from Ironwood to be recalled with zero explanation. Confused, they return to Ironwood who reveals a Black Queen chess piece, the symbol Salem used before Beacon fell, was placed in his office. Ruby realizes that Cinder Fall was responsible upon seeing it was made of black glass. Ironwood caves in to paranoia, suspects Salem was ahead of the whole time, and loses trust in Team RWBY for lying about Ozpin, Jinn and for Blake and Yang leaking the Amity plans to Robyn unbeknown to Ruby and Weiss. The meeting is suddenly interrupted by the emergence of a Seer Grimm, which was hiding in Watts bag, and conjures up a mirage of Salem. Salem reveals she is imminent to Atlas and theartens to destroy both cities if the group does not surrender both relics. Ruby defies Salem, stating they will stop her regardless if they can kill her or not. Salem retorts that her mother also said the same thing but was also proven wrong, causing Ruby to break down crying as the mirage fades.
The Salem apparition disappears, and the Ace-Ops begin to panic, especially upon realizing that the proximity alarms along the coast near Atlas are inactive. Blake asks about the readiness to launch the Amity Tower, but Yang realizes that Ironwood just said that to lure out Watts. Ironwood states that he has sent Winter to claim the Winter Maiden's powers and that he wants to seal the Relic of Knowledge in the vault with the Relic of Creation. He tells Ruby that he changed his mind about letting Team RWBY keep the Lamp because they lied to him and because Salem is on their doorstep while everyone is too exhausted for another battle.
Ironwood then explains that he intends to raise the City of Atlas into the atmosphere instead of Amity Tower. There, the city, the two Relics and the Winter Maiden will be safe from Salem. Team RWBY protests that this plan would mean leaving people in Mantle to die due to the evacuation not being complete, but Ironwood and the Ace-Ops refuse to reconsider. Suddenly, Jaune opens a group call with Ruby, Qrow and Winter. Taking the opportunity, Ruby uses her Semblance to get past Ironwood and warn the others about his plan. Ironwood locks communications, declares that Team RWBY are under arrest, and leaves while the Ace-Ops get ready to detain them.
Harriet locks down Ironwood's office, letting RWBY decide whether they'll be arrested peacefully or not, prompting Marrow to hesitantly ask if they're really going to fight. Ruby taunts Harriet by saying the Ace-Ops were the best Huntsmen in Atlas until they trained her team, prompting the fight to break. Blake tag teams with Yang, battling Elm and Vine Zeki, where the former eventually traps Blake. Vine tries to talk Yang into surrender, promising nobody will be hurt, causing Elm to snap at him to speak for himself, personally feeling betrayed by RWBY. Blake calls out the two for betraying the people they've sworn to protect and Yang snidely remarks that Elm shouldn't care because of her orders, enraging Elm into tossing Blake aside and exasperating Vine, who is forced to re-strategize.
Elm tries to psyche herself (and Vine) into letting go of their restraint and bonds to RWBY, but fails to do so. She and Vine's lack of communication and support leads to their defeat. Team RWBY then ties Harriet and the Ace-Ops to their Gravity Bolas, and leave them in Ironwood's office. Pietro Polendina and Maria catch RWBY tying up the Specialists, deciding to help the Huntresses. The group makes a plan where Ruby and Weiss will catch up to Winter and the Maiden whilst Yang and Blake find their friends to escape Atlas.
They arrive in the Atlas Medical Facility, where Ruby and Weiss join Blake and her friends without an explanation, and Penny decides to go with them. On the airship, Ruby and Weiss comfort Penny, until they intercept a broadcast from the military; Salem has arrived.

Division[]
Blake and her group find refuge in the Happy Huntresses' hideout in Mantle, as Ruby returns with Oscar. Joanna Greenleaf soon enters the room, and tells them they need to evacuate the remaining Mantle citizens to the Crater, where they'd have heat and be easier to defend. Yang voices her desire to help the people of Mantle, who are in the most danger, but Ruby states that Amity takes precedence, since Salem is nearby and will move on to attack the other Kingdoms if she destroys Atlas. Blake takes Ruby's side, saying the Happy Huntresses are already managing Mantle's evacuation and there is a bigger picture. The two sisters continue to discuss the matter, but no mutual agreement is reached, and soon the heroes split into two groups: Jaune, Ren, and Oscar side with Yang while the rest, including Penny, side with Ruby.
While Ruby's group gets ready to infiltrate the military base at the bottom of the City of Atlas, Ironwood calls Penny via Scroll and attempts to convince her to return to him. Angered by their refusal to cooperate, he tells her and Ruby that everything will be on their hands if Salem manages to attack Atlas.
The group then meets with May Marigold and follows her to a building owned by Snow Snow Shipping, a Schnee Dust Company subsidiary. Weiss explains they use their pneumatic tubes to get to Atlas. Weiss finds the correct tube and explains how to use it, only for Nora to launch her prematurely.
After they reach the Atlesian Command Center, they use May's Semblance of invisibility and Penny's directions to reach Central Command, where Penny uses Pietro's credentials to enter. May objects that she cannot get them through, but Penny explains that Ruby's Semblance should be able to carry all of them.
Elsewhere, Watts – now working for Ironwood – notices the apparent login by Pietro. The compound goes into lockdown, blocking the infiltrators' exits, but May points out a hangar. May trips an employee carrying coffee, giving Ruby the chance to rush the others past as Penny suggested.
Penny allows herself to be controlled remotely by Pietro, who enters the necessary commands, while Blake worries about the split between Ruby and Yang. There, Pietro says that Penny will mimic the Atlas terminal to launch Amity Communications Tower, and that she should remain on it despite her misgivings about abandoning Mantle. Despite Penny's refusals, she is convinced to do so by Ruby. While waiting for Penny to finish, Weiss confesses to the group that she wonders if she and Winter will stop fighting with each other.
As they leave, five of them are confronted by the Ace Ops, who want Penny to surrender the Relic of Creation to Ironwood for safekeeping. Goaded into a fight, Harriet Bree seals Penny in a different room from the other four, and the Ace Ops battle the new Maiden, briefly subdue her. As Team RWBY breaches the door, Nora is heavily injured and the Ace Ops are given an order from Ironwood. With this, Harriet cuts one sword loose from Floating Array, and the Ace-Ops retreat with it, much to group's confusion. The five of them go to the hangar, where May has already stolen a ship. May rams the ship through the sealed hangar door; and the group flies off after separating from Penny.

Battle of Atlas[]
With Nora injured, Weiss takes her team and May to the Schnee Manor to hide and rest. Displeased, Whitley complains about the family's reputation, the loss of the house staff and his mother locking herself in her room. Ruby convinces him to allow them to stay, and Weiss and May take Nora to another room. Ruby is worried about Yang and admits to Blake that she has tried and failed to call her.
As Penny's mission to deliver a message to the rest of Remnant about what has transpired appears to succeed, Weiss watches the message with Ruby and Blake. However, the message is suddenly cut short and is replaced by a live video broadcast of a geyser of Grimm Liquid leaping from the Solitas tundra into the shields of Atlas. The entire shield surrounding the city disappears, allowing Monstra to land on one of Atlas' farmlands. Monstra opens its mouth, vomiting out more Grimm fluid, which spawns a wide variety of Grimm.
As the battle of Atlas begins to wage, Weiss states that there is not much they can do for Nora and that they need a doctor to care for her. The three begin to wonder if they should help fight the Grimm, just before May enters the room and tells them that Fiona Thyme has not heard from Yang's Group. May wants the group to go back to the crater in Mantle, which is also under attack, but Weiss wants to stay in Atlas. Weiss asks about May's family, and May tells her that the Marigolds do not consider her their "son" anymore, comparing Weiss' situation with Whitley to her own situation with Henry Marigold. The conversation starts to become heated, and Ruby steps in to calm everyone down. Just outside the door, Whitley is listening in, and he thinks to himself.
Ruby tries to suggest finding and rescuing Qrow and Robyn Hill, but May tells her that Qrow and Robyn cannot save them and they need to choose for themselves whether to fight for Mantle or the City of Atlas. They are interrupted by Klein Sieban knocking on the front door. After Weiss lets him in, he reveals that Whitley called him to care for Nora. Touched by this, Weiss hugs Whitley, who hugs back after a second. The moment is ruined by a loud rumbling sound, followed by a crash. Ruby, Weiss and Blake run over to a smoking crater in front of the manor, to find a bloodied Penny, who reaches out and apologizes before losing consciousness.

Attack of the Hound[]
The group rushes Penny into Weiss's room. Klein isn't sure whether he can adequately repair the damage, but will do what he can. Unfortunately, at that moment the power goes out. May, on her way back to the Mantle Crater to help the refugees, calls them to confirm that Atlas just took another major hit. Ruby apologizes that they aren't doing more to help, but May tells her not to beat herself up, saying she doesn't know how much help they are able to give, at this point.
Klein tries to comfort the depressed Ruby by suggesting she start with trying to fix what's in front of her; he could repair Penny more easily if they can restore power. An intoxicated Willow joins them, revealing the Schnees have a backup generator on their estate. Whitley suddenly remembers that the SDC has dozens of cargo ships on standby due to the Dust embargo. If piloted by the now-Shoe Shipping drones, they can be used to transport the refugees to safety, as long as Whitley can gain access to Jacques' computer.
When Ruby and Blake go to the grounds to activate the generator, the two share a moment where Blake confesses she's always looked up to Ruby in times of need. However, the moment of peace and comfort is shattered when Blake sees the shadowy figure of The Hound standing behind Ruby. The Grimm attacks the girl, and the two try to fend off the intelligent Grimm.
Hearing the commotion, Weiss goes out to help and finds the Grimm has knocked out Ruby. It notices the glow from Penny's powers inside the manor; Ruby having regained consciousness, notices its' behavior and yells that the Hound is after Penny, not her. The Hound flies toward the Manor, dropping Ruby and knocking her unconscious again. Having killed the Centinels, Blake sends Weiss to help the others, but as she approaches Ruby, a Cenitaur bursts from the ground and attacks her. She is almost killed by the Cenitaur, before Ruby beheads it, saving her life.
Soon after, Penny's hacked persona takes control again. Knocking Klein aside, she strides out of Weiss' room and toward the entrance hall, passing the Schnees. When Whitley questions what she's doing, Penny says she must open the Vault, then self-terminate. However, she is interrupted by the Hound, which tries to seize her. When Penny fights back, the Hound sprouts a third arm, grabs her head and bashes her against the floor, shutting her down again. As Ruby and the rest of her allies arrive, the Hound uses Penny as a shield, but this backfires due to the protective power of Ruby's silver eyes. Ruby snaps "That's enough", activating her silver eyes and blasting the Grimm through the window. Penny topples down the stairs, unconscious, and Ruby, Blake and Weiss gather around her.
Suddenly, the Hound's arms pull it slowly back up through the hole in the window, followed by its' body with the head blown off... and, where it's neck should be, is the face of a scarred Faunus with silver eyes. Repeating the same phrase, "Take...the...girl!" with increasing intensity, it staggers down the steps toward them. Ruby, Weiss and Blake are too stunned and horrified to fight back at first, and simply drag Penny backward. As the Hound approaches, parts of its' head begin to regenerate. On the stairs above, Whitley and Willow push against a giant suit of armor mounted against the rail. Just as the Hound is fully regenerated and preparing to lunge at Penny again, the armor come crashing down on it, killing the creature at last. Ruby falls to her knees in horror. When Weiss asks what the Hound was, Ruby murmurs, "That was...a person." When the Hound's flesh crumbles into dust, the skeleton of its' Faunus host is left behind.

Reunion[]
When recovering from the attack, the group's attention is caught by a massive explosion erupts from within Monstra. Yang's group receives a message from Weiss with a map of where to access a subway tunnel and what route to take from there.
Yang, Jaune, Ren and Oscar reunite with Ruby, Weiss and Blake. Ren asks where Nora is, and Weiss goes to talk to him while Ruby turns to meet Oscar. It is then that Ruby notices Emerald and takes an aggressive stance. Just as Oscar attempts to explain, Ruby receives a call from May. May begins to explain that the SDC cargo ships they sent to Mantle are not alone, but soon after, she has to call out for everyone to run to the mines. There is an explosion, and the call cuts out.
An alarm sounds from everyone's Scrolls, signifying an emergency broadcast. Ruby uses her Scroll to project a screen for everyone to watch the broadcast on. The screen shows the SDC ships being shot down by Atlas military ships, and the broadcast then switches to Ironwood standing in a spotlight in a dark room. He claims that Penny alone is standing in the way of Atlas' salvation. He then gives Penny a choice - either she opens the Vault for him and Mantle is left to fend for itself, or he will destroy Mantle with the bomb that was originally intended to kill Monstra. Ironwood then threatens to destroy Mantle if anyone does anything other than what he has ordered. He states that Penny has one hour to respond. However, unbeknownst to him, Penny is still unconscious.
In the dining hall of the Manor, Team RWBY and Oscar try to figure out what to do about Ironwood's ultimatum. With seemingly no options, Ruby concludes that it is impossible, and the tension and distrust toward Emerald momentarily rises. Ruby becomes frustrated, stating that they are still where they started, and she runs from the room. Yang runs after her.
The rests and recuperations are interrupted by the sound of a window breaking, and everyone hurries outside to find Penny once again struggling against the virus. Blake and Ren use their weapons to keep Penny from flying away, Weiss pulls her to the ground with a glyph and Emerald soon joins in with her own weapon. In desperation, Penny asks Ruby to kill her so that she can pass the Winter Maiden powers on to her, but Ruby cannot bring herself to do it. Nora's insistence that only part of Penny is affected by the virus inspires Ruby to have Jaune boost Penny's Aura to combat the virus. The idea works, but it is only temporary. In her attempt to give everyone encouragement, Emerald admits that she has switched sides. With the mood lightened, Ozpin tells everyone that he realizes he should have trusted them with the truth and should not have run away when they discovered it for themselves. Yang, Blake and Weiss state that they understand that trust is a risk. The virus continues trying to force Penny to go to the vault, and Ruby gets an idea.
Ruby calls Ironwood and tells him that Penny will open the Vault, and he tells her to meet him alone at the Atlas Academy entrance.

The Ultimate Risk[]
After Team JNPR, Oscar, Winter, and Emerald defeat Ironwood whilst the Ace Ops are busy, Team RWBY and Penny sneak into the Atlas Vault.
As soon as the Vault opens, Ruby uses her Semblance to grab her teammates, rush in, grab the Staff and activate it so that time stops. Ambrosius comes forth from the Staff, and Team RWBY uses a loophole to convince him to save Penny by using her soul and her robot body to make two distinct Pennies - an empty, virus-infected robot Penny and a human Penny, who existed all along within the robot.
Once this is complete, Ambrosius recedes into the Staff, and time begins flowing again. With the Staff no longer keeping Atlas afloat, the city begins to descend, with its Gravity Dust keeping it from outright plummeting. Weiss summons Ambrosius from the Staff, and Team RWBY explains that they would like him to create portals throughout Atlas and Mantle that will all lead into a pocket dimension similar to the Vault. From there, everyone will be able to travel to a singular portal that opens into Vacuo. With the logistics explained and maps presented to him, Ambrosius makes it so, and just before they enter the portal near them, he warns, "Do not fall".
Shortly after, inside the pocket dimension, Cinder unleashes an explosive blast, sending refugees flying off of a platform. This draws Team RWBY's attention, and they begin to fight Cinder.
While Team RWBY is distracted fighting Cinder, Neo sneaks up on them, using her Semblance to disguise herself. When Yang notices Neo moving in to attack Ruby, she activates her Semblance, launches herself forward and pushes Ruby out of the way, taking the hit. Yang loses consciousness, her Aura breaks and she is sent tumbling over the edge of the platform. Blake desperately tries and fails to catch her with Gambol Shroud, and Yang falls into the void below. Penny, alerted by Blake's emotional cry, flies over to the platform and engages Cinder in a fight, while Blake furiously teams up with Ruby against Neo. Weiss, who was already fighting Cinder, attempts to lend support to Penny but is soon exhausted.
The fighting in the Central Location continues, and Jaune stresses to Nora that their top priority is finishing the evacuation. Weiss uses her Queen Lancer summon to narrowly rescue Penny from Cinder's Grimm hand. Penny tells Weiss to let her sacrifice herself, to protect everyone. Cinder destroys the summon while Weiss is distracted, dropping them onto the main platform and damaging their Auras. Penny offers herself as a target to Cinder, trying to distract her from Weiss and the Staff, but Cinder sneers, saying she wants it all. Blake jumps into the fight, and Weiss flees with the Staff while Blake and Penny face Cinder.
When Cinder attacks Ruby and Neo from behind, blasting the former over the edge, Blake tries to save and catches her and with Gambol Shroud to swing them to safety, but Cinder severs Gambol Shroud’s ribbon with a fire blast. Ruby, Blake and Neo plummet into the void.

Journey in the Ever After[]
After falling into the Void, she reunites with Weiss and they search for Gambol Shroud which fell separately. Blake asks Weiss what happened after she'd fallen, and Weiss refuses to answer until they find Ruby and Yang. They come across Gambol Shroud, which has become stuck in a strange cluster of vines, and get tangled in it themselves while trying to free the weapon. A large group of mice swarm the two, celebrating the success of their "trap". They see Ruby who has arrived and after Little explained everything to their village, the mice sets them free, and the Mouse Leader apologizes, Blake asks if they have seen Yang, but the Mouse Leader shakes his head no.
When Blake and the other talk about where Yang is, when they suddenly encounter the strange creature that is searching for something, they prepare to fight it until the seen Yang attack it without her arm. Outnumbered the creature retreats, Blake tackles her partner to the ground hugging her, to which Yang hugs back.
After Ruby wakes up after falling unconscious, the group talk about what to do, Blake suggests that they find Crescent Rose and Yang's Prosthetic Arm before searching for a way home. Blake rebuffs her teammates concerns and suggests that they may have found themselves inside a fairy tale.
