“ You put on that badge because you know if you don’t, someone who shouldn’t will. But you have to understand, this mask is my badge, and I'm trying to be good too. I was trying so hard to wear this thing the way you would want, and I didn't... I didn't. I can do all these things, but I can't help the people I love the most, and they can only know half of who I am, so I-I'm completely on my own, and now I don't even know what the right thing is anymore! I don't now what I'm supposed to do, but I know... I can't lose one more friend. „
~ Gwen talking to her father regarding their heroism.

Gwendolyn Maxine "Gwen" Stacy, also known by her superhero alias Spider-Woman is the deuteragonist of Sony Pictures Animation‘s Spider-Verse film trilogy serving as the tritagonist of the 2018 feature film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the main protagonist of its 2023 sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. She will return in its upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

She is one of the different versions of Spider-Man who is pulled out of her own universe by Kingpin's super collider, and now must find her back home, along with the other spider-people. She is Miles Morales‘s best friend and love interest.

She is voiced by Hailee Steinfeld.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • Despite the high Admirable Standard of the two movies, she stands out due to being very important in helping Miles stop being reluctant to become a superhero (making her vital in him stopping Kingpin) and forming a team of Spider-Men to rescue Miles from Earth-42.

Background[]

  • She protected her universe's Peter Parker from his bullies.
  • She saved her father from dying, and constantly battled villains in her universe to protect her New York.
  • She was heartbroken when her best friend Peter Parker died, and this served as an incentive to her to always try to save other people.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse[]

  • She saved Peter B. Parker and Miles from Doc Ock.
  • Despite getting a little bit mad at Miles for damaging her hair during school, she wasn't overreacting as he really messed up with her hair seriously, and she eventually accepted it and would later on use it as a way to remember her friend when she was unable to be around him.
  • Although she was harsh to Miles, like the other spiders during his training via kicking him a couple of times with her foot, she was just trying to get him to reach his full potential.
  • When Miles didn't return to May Parker's house, she felt some guilt for being harsh with him as she became worried about him.
  • After comforting Miles about his Uncle Aaron's death, she accepted the other Spider-People decision to let him be webbed up in his room, but was only for his safety.
  • She argued with Peter B. Parker and the other spiders about who should go back home and who should stay to shut down the collider, showing that she puts the other's safety above her own, despite barely knowing the other spiders.
  • She and the other spiders helped shut down the collider.
  • Despite her initially refusing to make new friends, she is friendly towards all of the spider people, and her experiences with them inspires Gwen to start trying making friends again.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse[]

  • She saved several people while fighting Vulture.
  • While hanging out with Miles, she helped stop a robber with him.
  • She helped save people in Mumbattan while fighting the Spot.
  • She attempted to prevent Miles from putting himself in danger, even though she was also preventing him from ruining a Canon Event.
  • Despite hurting and betraying Miles, she made an effort to save him from being chased by the Spider-Society.
  • She attempted to prevent Miguel from hurting Miles.
  • Although she hid the truth about Miles being an anomaly and an upcoming Canon Event that would ultimately led to his father's death, her intentions of doing so were good as she was trying to protect him, which backfired when a resentful Miguel and Peter B. accidentally told the latter the truth.
  • Despite her effort in trying to spare Miles's feelings when he confronted her, she decided to be honest with him and told him that she did consider telling him the truth, but didn't know how she was going to tell him.
  • She told Miguel that she was done hunting and hurting Miles as she stood up to the Spider-Society leader for his actions in preserving Canon Event and his treatment towards her friend.
  • Once she realized that Canon Events can be safely altered when her father quit the police force, she rebelled against Miguel as she decided to help Miles stop the Spot and save his father.
  • Through a homemade dimensional watch that Hobie left for her father to give to her, she immediately goes to Miles' universe in order to join up with him and make things right between them.
  • After arriving at Miles' house, finding out that he got sent to the wrong universe and overhearing his parents conversation, she blamed herself for putting him in danger and realized her mistake in choosing the Spider-Society's beliefs over their friendship.
  • Although she was going to let Jefferson Morales die in a Canon Event while she was a member of the Spider-Society and hearing him blaming himself for Miles' disappearances, she came out to assure him that he or Rio weren't to blame for his son disappearances and that both of them mean everything to the latter.
  • She also told Miles's worried parents that their son is missing and she has no clues where he is but promised them that she was going to find him then bring him home.
  • She sent Ben Reilly to her universe. She then stepped on his dimensional watch, kicked it into her hand and crushes it to prevent him from coming back.
  • She assembled the Spider-Gang, Peter B., Peni Parker, Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham, with a couple of new members that were former Spider-Society members, Mayday Parker, Spider-Punk, Spider-Man India and Spider-Byte, to be a group that protected the Multiverse over the status quote and to find and rescue Miles.

Trivia[]

  • She is, along with Miles and Ultimate Spider-Man, one of the three heroes in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to be Pure Good.
    • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs are the only Sony Pictures Animation productions that have more than one Pure Good in the case of Flint Lockwood and Sam Sparks.
