Yes, it was I! I, Aamon, who effected Rose's death and ensured your demise.
~ Aamon to Psaro when confronted
Can you control your hatred?! Your loathing? But what of self-loathing? What shame could be greater than joining forces with the humans?!
~ Aamon to Psaro. This also shows he hates humans himself.
Hmm, you have come a long way. But it is all in vain, for you are too late. Psaro has already used the Secret of Evolution and will soon be awakening in his ultimate form. All that will remain in his new form will be a hatred for humans and a desire to destroy them. Psaro as we knew him will cease to exist and will no longer reign over monster kind. And I will read you your last rites before I send you to your sorry graves. It is I who was behind the kidnapping of Rose. I manipulated you weak humans. I, the almighty Aamon!
~ Aamon's line before starting the fight with the heroes.

Aamon is a villain in Dragon Quest, being a major villain in both Dragon Quest IV and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. It is his incarnation in The Dark Prince that qualifies as Pure Evil.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He committed the same actions that he did in Dragon Quest IV, which was manipulating Psaro into becoming evil. He persuaded Psaro into killing humans and, in one timeline, killed Rose (who played the role of the angel on Psaro’s shoulder just as he played the devil on Psaro’s shoulder) to destroy the last of his inhibitions. This results in Psaro becoming an extremely dangerous monster via the Secret of Evolution that the heroes of Dragon Quest IV have no choice but to put down. While this action was undone by Toilen Trouble, it makes it clear what Aamon will do to the world if he succeeds.
  • In addition to that, he also manipulates Psaro into helping him kill his father, Randolfo, so he can take over his kingdom, presumably intending for Psaro to become a figurehead or have him disposed of later. When Psaro refuses to continue to be manipulated, he decides to try to have Dolph kill Randolfo instead by making him lose control of himself. (Fortunately, Randolfo catches on and has Dolph kill him instead.)
  • When he wants the elves’ magic crystals (which would allow him to manipulate space and time), he declares war on them. Not content with simply killing them, he enslaved the elves by turning them into stone golems. Psaro has no choice but to kill them to put them out of their misery.
  • While his lackey Furgil is nothing but loyal to him, it is implied that he would betray him if he found better help, as he has a habit of betraying his allies. And unlike Furgil, who presumably held some genuine care for Psaro given that he joined his side following his master's death without hesitation, Aamon admits that he viewed Psaro as nothing more than a means to his end.
  • He lacks the redeeming qualities other villains in this game have, such as Dolph (who showed loyalty to his father, based on Aamon not attempting to manipulate him into killing Randolfo like he did Psaro), Randolfo (who showed honor by removing the curse that prevented Psaro from harming monsters upon defeat), and Ludo (who, while intending to destroy the world, intended to recreate the world so that it could have peace).

Trivia[]

  • Aamon is the only Dragon Quest villain to be Pure Evil, both in the games and in the books.
  • Originally, he was not approved because it was unknown exactly how he treated his minions, and his origin was not given enough information to declare if he was pure evil or not. Once Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince was told to be both a prequel and an alternate reality of the story of Dragon Quest IV, and Aamon has committed further heinous crimes, not to mention he truly was a bad boss towards his minions, now he qualifies.
