Cheryl is a character appearing in Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl.
Appearance[]
Cheryl is a young woman with light gray eyes, slightly pale skin, and long dark green hair tied in a segmented ponytail that hangs down in front of her. She wears a modest, conservative outfit that consists of a light green and white long-sleeved semi-jacket, a brown undershirt, a long dark green pleated skirt, and tall brown boots with slightly tall heels. Overall, her appearance gives off a very 'earthy' vibe, despite the fact that she doesn't train Grass-type Pokémon.
Personality[]
Cheryl is an adventurous, calm and optimistic young woman, who has the dream of finding the Enchanted Honey. Although she can be a bit clumsy, she is very kind, friendly and always positive.
Cheryl also remembers her grandfather a lot, and is quite stoic in her actions in that regard.
Biography[]
Cheryl's grandfather passed onto his grandchild many virtues and stories,[1] and it was in his honor that Cheryl went on a quest to find the enchanted honey:[2] her grandfather collected many things, but never found the enchanted honey.[3]
The first step of this quest was to get a Mothim and have it trace the scent of the honey. However, her luck only let her capture three Burmy, who evolved into different forms of Wormadam.[2] She spread some honey as bait around trees, in hoping to attract a Burmy and capture it.[3]
Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl[]
Cheryl encountered a lone Burmy, and had Chansey weaken it to capture it. She then met Ash, Dawn and Brock, who were close nearby, and introduced herself as a treasure hunter. Brock tried to flirt with her, but Cheryl remembered her grandfather's words and rejected him. In order to find the honey, she showed that her newly-caught Burmy had to evolve into a Mothim, who could find the enchanted honey. Ash had his Turtwig battle Burmy, but as that didn't go well, he switched it with his Pikachu. Pikachu pretended to fall down from Burmy's attack, but before the battle could continue, Burmy was captured by Team Rocket, who fled away. Cheryl became quite sad, seeing she could disappoint her grandfather, but the heroes encouraged her to continue, helping her retrieve Burmy.
They later found Team Rocket's hideout and battled them. Burmy joined the battle, and evolved into a Mothim, leading to Team Rocket getting blasted off. Brock tried to flirt with Cheryl, but failed; instead, Cheryl saw that Mothim picked up a scent.[2] However, Mothim went to a tree, where Cheryl planted some honey to lure Burmy to capture it. After getting some rest, the next day, Cheryl saw Mothim was excited, and followed it. However, this caused Cheryl to get stuck among some vines. Thus, Ash's Turtwig cut the vines to release her. A moment later, they met up with the Eterna City Gym Leader name Gardenia after Mothim smelled the scent of a wild Gloom.
Gardenia asked for a match with Ash, to which Cheryl let him have the battle, to have some time off from their search for the enchanted honey. After the battle, Cheryl explained that she was after the enchanted honey, to which Gardenia remembered that they could follow the Combee, which could lead them to the Combee Wall, where the Pokémon store this special honey. The following day, Team Rocket attempted to capture Cheryl's Mothim, but were stopped by Gardenia and her Turtwig. Gardenia saw she had to return to the Gym, leaving Cheryl and the rest to have Mothim follow a Combee.[3] Mothim led the group until it lost track of Combee. Fortunately, a group of Combee, forming a wall, emerged, to which the group followed it, past the waterfall into the tunnels. The heroes continued on, going past a shiny cave to the tunnels, where they found some Combee fleeing.
Finding out Team Rocket was stirring trouble, the heroes battled them, but the Combee attacked both sides. Thus, Mothim used Supersonic to confuse them, and after defeating Team Rocket, went to the deeper parts of the cave. Being blocked by a wall made of Combee, Mothim's Supersonic confused the Combee to reveal a chamber made of honey. Cheryl realized this was the Amber Castle: finding the Combee's leader, a Vespiquen, she asked of it for some enchanted honey. Since Team Rocket appeared again, the heroes battled them until the cave's walls started to crack. The heroes helped repair the walls, whereas Vespiquen defeated Team Rocket. Seeing the heroes' intent was beneficial, Vespiquen gave Cheryl a pot of enchanted honey. Coming out of the cave, Cheryl swore to become the treasure hunter. Seeing a Beedrill, she claimed she had to leave the group, leaving Brock heartbroken.[1]
