The Burned Tower is a location introduced in Generation II.

Description[]

The Burned Tower is a location in Ecruteak City, in the Johto region. It stands beside the Bell Tower. In Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version, Burned Tower resembles the Bell Tower, but with fewer floors. In Pokémon Crystal Version and Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version, the roof is burnt down to better reflect the destruction that had occurred to it. The Burned Tower is one of the locations where the rival is fought, and defeating him in Pokémon Crystal Version is required for the Ecruteak City Gym to become accessible.

The Burned Tower is named for the fact that it had been burned down when struck by a lightning bolt. Before the tower burned down, it was titled the Brass Tower. Lugia used to reside in the Burned Tower before moving to the Whirl Islands. Raikou, Entei, and Suicune—the three Legendary Beasts—were unable to escape the tower when it burned down, but Ho-Oh later came along to revive them.

In Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version, a level 40 Suicune appears here as their next destination if the player does not catch it on Route 25. Suicune begins to appear only after the player enters the Hall of Fame, and if it not caught at the Burned Tower, Suicune does not appear again unless the player re-enters the Hall of Fame.

Trivia[]

  • The Brass Tower/Burned Tower, Bell Tower, and Sprout Tower are special types of towers known as Pagodas.
  • Some people believed the Pokémon caught in the Burned Tower were a Jolteon, Vaporeon, and Flareon. This suggestion is probably related to the Dance Theater and the Kimono Girls, who all own an Eevee evolution. Others believe that they were the last of ancient Pokémon that are now extinct.
  • While Ho-oh has feathers, Lugia does not and is known as the "Diving Pokémon". Some believe Lugia was badly burned when the tower caught fire and it dove into the ocean to douse the flames its body had taken. This could explain why Lugia has no feathers in comparison to Ho-oh, even though in some games it could apparently drop a feather known as the "Silver Wing".
