Where have I been?

Now that we are out of lockdown and with that

dreaded illness

virtually eliminated from my beautiful country,

Taken on a recent walk, just 10km from the city of Melbourne!

life is back to covid-normal (masks inside, social

distancing etc) and my days are full!

Finishing up a 42-year teaching career may have had

something to do with it.

Some of the beautiful cards etc I received on my semi-retirement

And spending lots of time with my gorgeous grandsons

is definitely another!

But I have been knitting,

sewing...

a dress for my sister-

the very versatile Eme dress from Stylearc!

Pretty fabric from Spotlight

And a starry quilt top (flimsy) for a friend....

And some planning for these beauties!

I'm thinking something with big and bold blocks!

Just maybe not all of them in the one quilt!

Any suggestions on a pattern???

I'll certainly have more time for all the fun things of life!

Happy days!

Planning Party

As I finish up one or two quilts for the year,

"B100ms" is still being quilted
I begin to look forward to a new year and new

projects.

To help me get sorted, I joining the Planning Party

                                                 2019 Planning Party

My plans often start with a stack of fabric, like these

Outback Wife beauties...

(with some solids, spots and checks thrown in.)

Or this stack of solids I won in a giveaway last year.

And I've been adding to this 'green' stash

during the year.

I then have to decide on patterns....

I've wanted to make a Flowering Snowball quilt for a

while.

This one is by 'bits of everything'.

She even has templates on her blog!

Or this awesome pattern by Brigitte Heitland ...

or this scrappy, happy one called "Starburst"

 by Sew Crafty Jess

Finally this one, by Blue Elephant Stitches,

Carolina Chain
looks like a totally scrappy project!

It's just as well I don't have definite plans yet

because I  have these to finish first:

Mint Thicket quilt

Clambake
Delilah aka "Shadows Of Love"
I wonder if temptation will get the better of me!?

Do you find it hard to make definite plans, like

me?

Or do you start something new even if you still have

big pile of WIPs?

Happy days!

Lately....

I've had more success with my clothes sewing lately!

Last weekend I made this skirt.....

from this pattern.

And ordered this fabric....

to make this pattern!

Clothes, when they work, are much quicker to make

than quilts!

Although a touch of Spring weather yesterday...

has me dreaming of a quilt from my stash of AMH

voiles!

Happy sewing!

Plotting and planning....

With one quilt finish under my belt for 2018,

"Sanctuary" in its new home

and "Luna Park" being hand quilted in the

evenings....

it is time to turn my attention to another WIP.

But first....

I had been wanting to make one of these

strawberry blocks for a long time!

Isn't she pretty?

I gathered up all my Gridster blocks, and some

orphan blocks too, that I thought would play nicely

with one another!

I spent some time measuring them and transferring

these measurements on graph paper!

(Yes, I know there are probably computer

programmes that do it for you,

 but I'm old-fashioned

when it comes to designing!)

So I am playing with possible layouts,

There will definitely be some random sashing to

be added.

And possibly some checkerboard 'filler' blocks too!

It is much easier moving these mini paper blocks

around than crawling around the floor!

If anyone has any other ideas for me,

you know where I am,

plotting and planning!

A love/hate relationship....

with Delilah!

I loved making Month 10-

but Month 9, which arrived soon after my bike

accident...

really had me despairing!

These are 6" blocks.  The curves are tight whether

constructed by machine or hand!

So I improvised....

and made three each of my own versions!

This brings me to some plans for 2018.

1.  I will conquer my aversion to curves, with possibly a drunkard's path quilt.

2. I have a stash of black and white fabric that is begging to be made into a quilt.

In the meantime, I made this....

as a gift for my hand therapist!

3. And a large stash of Cotton and Steel fabric I want to make into a quilt.

But first, I need to finish this...

Do you have any quilty plans for 2018?

Happy sewing!

Starting it over...

I got about as far as this...

with my New York Beauty bee quilt,

when I decided I didn't like it!

I had previously played around with this layout,

Sorry, poor lighting!
but again, wasn't totally happy, I think because it

was long and narrow.

So today I made another block....

to bring the total number to twenty-five!

And there is a little clue hiding here

to where this is headed.

To check for balance I made a black and white

photo too.

Oh, and it seems I have rotated it too!

I have moved a few blocks around and hope to make

further progress on this soon.

Happy sewing!

The blog post with no name....

Autumn is in full swing in Melbourne....

I am planning a whole cloth quilt with this Nani Iro

double gauze,

for a baby due in August.

I had a mini charm pack of these pretty fabrics....

that quickly turned into this drawstring bag.

And my English paper pieced blue wren....

is ready to be appliqued,

as soon as I get the papers removed!

I've also been playing with this combination...

as the Four-In-Art, May 1st deadline looms.

Happy sewing!
