The Fairy Godmother is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. She débuts, with her only appearance, in the first episode of the seventh season and is portrayed by co-star Jillian Fargey.
The Fairy Godmother is based on the character of the same name from Charles Perrault's version of the "Cinderella" fairy tale, and the fairy godmother from the Disney film, Cinderella and its direct-to-video sequel Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.
History
The Fairy Godmother helps her goddaughter Cinderella get to the Prince's Ball at the castle presumably by using her magic. ("Hyperion Heights")
Shortly after sending Cinderella off to the Ball, the Fairy Godmother is knocked out and captured by her stepmother Lady Tremaine, who ties her up and cuts off her wings while she sleeps as punishment for helping Cinderella. She also takes the Fairy Godmother's magic wand to teach her other daughter Drizella a lesson to never rely on magic, as it can be taken like the wand. Lady Tremaine then kills the Fairy Godmother by turning her to dust, using the words Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo. ("Hyperion Heights")
Lady Tremaine mentions the Fairy Godmother's unlucky fate when using her wand to de-age a recently reacquainted Hook from the Wish Realm. ("A Pirate's Life")
Magical Abilities
- Fairy Magic - Use of fairy dust and/or fairies' wands to do magic.
Trivia
On-Screen Notes
- It is unknown if the Fairy Godmother knew of Cinderella's plan to kill the Prince, or just tried to send her to the ball. ("Hyperion Heights")
- While stuck inside the well with Victoria Belfrey, Ivy says to her mother, "Where's a fairy godmother when you need one?" ("Secret Garden")
Disney
- The words that Lady Tremaine says to use the Fairy Godmother's wand, "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," come from the Cinderella film. ("Hyperion Heights")
Props Notes
- The Fairy Godmother's wand[1] is the same prop that was used for the original Fairy Godmother's wand in "The Price of Gold," "Queen of Hearts" and "Lacey."[2] While the handle remains the same, the rest of the wand (which used to be transparent) has been painted in a metallic color. ("Hyperion Heights" et al.)
