Paintbrush (labelled The Hothead) is a non-binary contestant on Inanimate Insanity and was a member of Team Epic. Paintbrush also competes in Inanimate Insanity II and was a member of The Bright Lights. They competed on The Thinkers in Inanimate Insanity Invitational.

Appearance

Paintbrush has a long rounded body with a square head. A silver metal rim surrounds the top of their head. Paintbrush has yellow bristles that form a pointed brush that emerges from the metal rim. At the bottom of their body is a hole cut out in the center of Paintbrush's torso. In comparison to other contestants,

Paintbrush is remarkably tall, as Knife says in both season 1 and 2.

Personality

Paintbrush is a responsible contestant who is pragmatic in their approach to challenges and life. They take the game very seriously compared to other contestants, and try to corral their team into trying their best at challenges and taking as few risks as possible. They hold their friends and allies' best interests at heart. In some ways, their problem is that they care too much; when things don't go their way and their teammates don't try their best, they are prone to angry outbursts. When they're angry, sometimes they resort to physical violence and yelling (like when they punch Fan and say they hate him in Mazed and Confused).

Although they are a skilled leader, they're outranked by Lightbulb, whose methods are more out-of-the-box. Although Paintbrush shows a willingness to work with Lightbulb in some episodes, they often butt heads because they are both stubbornly set in their ways.

They're shown to be compassionate, loyal friend. They try their best to comfort Marshmallow, and are always there to save Nickel in Season 1 when things go awry. Paintbrush is both outspoken and very impatient, so they aren't unfailingly kind. This is especially true in Season 1 episodes such as The Snowdown, where they're unnecessarily rude to Apple and MePhone4. They're also shown to be petty at times; examples of this are present when they still feel angry at OJ for besting them in the Christmas Challenge in The Penultimate Poll, even though it had been months.

Paintbrush is portraying as "Charlene" due to the looks and colors, as the past life of Cosmic Paintbrush (Gaeun).

Inanimate Insanity Invitational: The Galactic Virus (Ch. 6 - Onward)

Paintbrush was one of the infected contestants who was infected by Galaxi and plays a major role in The Galactic Virus, especially chapter 6 and onward. After leaving the spacescape, they had felt bad for the little galac-goo and had requested Test Tube to make a portal machine in order to retrieve them. After doing so, Paintbrush soon comes back with the purple galac-goo hiding in their bristles. After freeing the galac-goo, they introduced them to Test Tube, and shortly after, gave Puddle their name.

Trivia

• Adam Katz (the creator of Inanimate Insanity) revealed that Paintbrush's true gender in II2 Episode 12's official comment, which is "Non-binary".
• Paintbrush is the tallest (and also the second thinnest) contestant.
• Paintbrush can burn their hair. This is extended in II2's episode 12, where Paintbrush burnt a good chunk of the challenge area.
• In Object Multiverse, Paintbrush was evil and they're the side antagonist.
