Queen Elinor is the deuteragonist of Pixar's 13th animated feature film, Brave.
She is the queen of DunBroc, ruling it alongside her husband, Fergus, and is mother of four heirs, Merida, the eldest, and her younger, toddler brothers, triplets, Harris, Hubert and Hamish. Although she desires what is best for the kingdom, her way of acting on it gets her in conflict with her free spirited daughter, who frequently acts in ways Elinor doesn't think suit a princess well. When Merida, wanting to change her mother's way of seeing things, accidentally transforms her into a bear, the two start a quest to find a way to turn Elinor back, and end up resolving their multiple disagreements along the way.
She was voiced by Emma Thompson.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Even if not perfect, something she aclknowledges and works upon at the end of the film, her methods of raising Merida and conducting the kingdom are done out of pure care. As shown in the very first scene, Elinor cares and protects Merida, and even joked and played with her as a child, showing a more strict side when she grew up.
- She also geniunely worries about her kingdom, with her constantly repeated story about the Ancient Kingdom shows what she believes will happen if order isn't uphold contantly, at all costs.
- She tries to better her dialogue with Merida, by using Fergus as an actor, showing she wants their relationship to improve, and not Merida for simply obey her orders.
- Stopped the reckless fighting the four clans had gotten into, aparting their leaders in the middle of their childish struggle.
- After Merida came back home, she attempted to appraoch her in a more passive way, trying to mend their interaction since last time they saw each other, Elinor burned Merida's bow and Merida trashed her tapetry, though Merida, with her enchanted cake, doesn't give her the chance to.
- She tries to help Merida escape a dungeon while confronting Mor'du, dragging her up.
- When Merida has to distract the lords while Elinor gets to her room, Elinor silently helps Merida give a speech to the lords in the throne room, not only allowing Elinor to get to her room, but also making the clans stop fighting.
- As the speech used both arguments from Merida and Elinor herself, it shows her actions weren't fully wrong, and she did have a point in the disagreements with her daughter, even if so had Merida.
- She ran away when it became clear she was losing her humanity each time faster, and despite what she and Merida did, the spell wasn't being broken, in order to not hurt anyone.
- She tried to not use violence when resisting the four clans, who attempted to capture her because they mistakenly thought she (the bear) had killed Elinor.
- When Mor'du appears at the stone circle and tries to kill Merida, as well as presumably the most humans he could, she sacrifices her own life to defend her daughter from the demon bear, even if it meant for her to get herself injured when fighting Mor'du, eventually managing to send him to his demise by bashing and slamming him against a pillar, cracking it, breaking it, and causing it to fall on him.
- She mends her relationship with Merida by the end, showing the two of them now understand each other, and is shown to have accepted Merida's decision against the traditional marriages.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She is still a bit of a stuborn person, sticking to rules, and quite strict, considerably, a bit too much. However, as she starts to listen to Merida and their relation is much better at the end of the film, she seems to be shedding this quality a little, making it a minor prevention.
