Marchioness Dieke is the overarching antagonist in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! series and its original in-universe game of Fortune Lover, being responsible for the hidden route connected to Raphael Walt to happen.
She is voiced by Yo Taichi in the Japanese version.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- After her husband had run away with his lover, Marchioness Dieke was devastated, with her only child Sirius Dieke had died of illness. Enraged, Marchioness Dieke blamed everything on a maid of her husband, who gave birth to an illegitimate child named Raphael (after the Marquis forced himself upon her).
- To revive her son, Marchioness Dieke took the said maid and Raphael to a ritual of Dark Magic, willing to sacrifice the woman’s life to bring back Sirius into Raphael’s body. Raphael witnessed his beloved mother being interrogated, abused and accused by Marchioness Dieke for an adultery she did not actually took part in (as she was a victim of rape, not a participant of adultery).
- Then, Marchioness Dieke ordered a sorcerer she hired to start the ritual, before killing Raphael’s mother. After that, the Marchioness lied to the sorcerer she hired that she would allow him back to his family, before betraying him and having him killed.
- While it is absent from the anime adaptation, the Light Novel depicts that the said sorcerer was forced to join the Marchioness' deeds after she had his family as hostage, making a false promise that she would let them reunite after she helped him to heal Sirius. However, unbeknownst to the sorcerer (until by his final moments), the Marchioness already ordered his family to be killed.
- Then, throughout the years, Marchioness Dieke had used her family’s resources to work with other corrupt nobles, willing to conduct human experiments of Dark Magic rituals to achieve their selfish goals. While these were mentioned, it had caused some of the story’s later villains, most notably a mysterious girl named Sara who served as the current main antagonist in the Light Novel series. Sora was also a victim to one of Marchioness Dieke’s collaborators, possibly with the man who raised him being sacrificed to grant him the Dark Magic’s availability. This influence had extended to the current publication of the Light Novel, even after the defeat of Marchioness Dieke herself.
- Since the Dark Magic required human sacrifice to gain, Marchioness Dieke definitely had people killed (though the number was unspecified).
- Despite the Marchioness' plan was thwarted and her subsequent capture, her damage already be done to many people besides Raphael. The influence of Marchioness Dieke’s actions still did not even diminished as of the current part of stories, with new users of Dark Magic rising via Sara's schemes to cause troubles.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Marchioness Dieke genuinely loved her son (the real Sirius), and she was devastated when her husband ran away with another woman, combined with the fact that he was a serial adulterer. She was also pleased and excited when she believed her son had “revived”, and she hugged “Sirius” in happiness. However, her crimes had already made her surpass the possible sympathy given to her character, so this is a minor prevention.
Trivia[]
- Despite the story's overall lightheartness (with most of the villains being either redeemable, sympathetic or generic), Marchioness Dieke is considered to be the darkest and most serious villain in the world of Fortune Lover despite her mostly unseen status, carving a dark influence on the whole My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! series. Her influence and her villainy even surpassed those of the original game counterpart of Catarina Cales (at her worst).
- Whilst her further human experiments were left offscreen, the results were presented in the sequel light novels, such as Sora Smith who had fell into misery and lost the person whom he saw as a father figure, and Sara who had turned into villainy and continued the Marchioness' legacy.
