Destoroyah (also known as Destroyah or Destroyer in the English dub) is the titular main antagonist of the 1995 Godzilla film Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.

He was born from a colony of Precambrian crustaceans mutated by the oxygen destroyer, the weapon used to kill the original Godzilla. As it assumes more powerful forms, Destoroyah seeks to destroy all life on Earth out of pure spite.

In his aggregated form, he is portrayed by Eiichi Yanagida, and in his final perfect form, he is portrayed by Ryo Hariya.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

• Disintegrated a group of fish.
• When he was a few creatures, he slaughtered a SWAT team with micro-oxygen, disintergrating their cells and painfully killing them.
• Its heavily implied (outright confirmed in Godzilla Unleashed, a tie in game to the franchise) that he wants to kill all life, even being described as something that destroys all in his path.
• Blasted multiple tanks with his micro-oxygen for getting in his way, only leaving a few left.
  • These tanks are seen to have people in them, meaning this doesn’t rely on fridge horror.
• Tried to kill Godzilla Junior unprovoked.
• Tortured Godzilla Junior by stabbing him and injected his bloodstream with micro-oxygen to absorb his DNA, almost causing him to suffocate to death.
• Killed a lot of people with no remorse.
• Killed Godzilla Jr. right in front of Godzilla who was just about to reunite with his son (again with no remorse) out of pure spite, revenge, and sadism.
• Like SpaceGodzilla before it, Destoroyah was fully aware of the pain and suffering he caused, taking immense pride in causing it as it was shown deliberately destroying cities.
• Despite the high heinous standard, Destoroyah passes for having the most brutal kills in the heisei films, the unique crime of torture and personal villainy against Godzilla due to killing his son. He also lacks the ability to go to space unlike Ghidorah and SpaceGodzilla, meaning he has slightly less resources.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

• While Destoroyah is aware of the pain and suffering he causes like SpaceGodzilla, Gigan and Showa King Ghidorah, and clearly enjoys inflicting both on others, he ironically lacks clear moral agency; his malicious personality was attributed to mutation via. exposure to Oxygen Destroyer and doesn’t really know any better at all, Although, considering he shows the ability to use mental warfare by killing Godzilla’z son in front of him, and how Godzilla was also mutated by nukes and turned out mostly fine, this is a very minor prevention.

Trivia[]

• Destoroyah is, alongside Godzilla from Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monster All-Out Attack, and Megaguirus, one of the three kaiju/monsters from the Godzilla franchise to be Near Pure Evil.
• He was originally considered Pure Evil but was removed due to moral agency issues.
• His comic counterparts cannot count for the following reasons:
  • His Rulers of Earth counterpart is a weapon with no personality.
  • His cataclysm counterpart doesn’t have any known origin, meaning he lacks the moral agency issues.
