COLD OPEN As Gina locks up Hooper's Store, Elmo and Rosita tell the viewer they are excited because the three of them are visiting the library to hear someone read a story.

SCENE 1 Linda meets the trio as they arrive at the library. She asks if Gina is going to stay for the story but she has to return to work, despite Elmo and Rosita's pleas to stay. A young man named Jesse enters, making sure everyone's there for the story he will be reading - including Gina, whom he seems to be particularly smitten with. She says she won't be at the reading, and Elmo tells Jesse she has to go to work. With Gina leaving, the others head off to read the story.

SCENE 2 Jesse, Elmo, Rosita, and some kids sit at a table ready to read the story. Jesse reveals that the book is Play With Me by Marie Hall Ets when Gina awkwardly rushes in briefly to tell Jesse she'll be working at Hooper's Store if he needs anything. After Jesse finishes reading the story (told in narration interlaced with illustrations from the book), everyone loves the book so much that they want their own copy. Luckily enough, Jesse has brought plenty of copies and hands them out.

SCENE 3 Gina returns to the library and sees Elmo and Rosita at the counter, holding their copies of the story. Linda tells her that Jesse went home and Gina admits that she likes him, causing Elmo and Rosita to believe she is in love with him. Linda suggests she take him on an outing, but Gina initially refuses since she doesn't have his telephone number; Linda just so happens to have Jesse's number, and hands Gina the library's telephone. Gina nervously calls him and asks if they'd like to get together. He invites her for a picnic in the afternoon, and the date is set! Until then, Elmo and Rosita request Gina read Play With Me to them.

SCENE 4 Gina and Jesse meet in the yard... and are joined by Elmo and Rosita, who brought several activities to do for the picnic. The monsters are shocked when they see all they're taking is some sandwiches and juice before learning that the picnic was meant for just Gina and Jesse. Jesse doesn't want to disappoint them, saying there's no law for their picnic to be for grown-ups only. He and Gina agree to invite Rosita and Elmo to come along, not wanting their planning to go to waste.

Instead she thinks they'll want to kiss, as she and Elmo still think they love each other. Gina tells them that they don't since they've just met, and that you can't love somebody unless you really know them. Jesse reiterates, adding, "But, then there's falling in love..."

SCENE 6 The four return to the yard, where Jesse asks Gina if they would like to go to the movies tomorrow night. Even though Rosita and Elmo can't, Gina happily accepts the invitation, stating, "I would love to." A shocked Elmo emphasizes, "Did Gina say love?!" Gina clarifies what she means, but Elmo says it's a start. They all give each other hugs before Jesse leaves. Hoots the Owl announces the sponsors, and the credits follow.
