SCENE 1 Bob tends to some of his crocus plants, noting that spring is in the air at last. Telly comes by with a problem - he planted his own crocus bulb in the winter, but he's discovered a nasty green thing is starting to take up space in the flower pot. Bob points out the bulb is his crocus plant, just starting to bloom for the spring. Telly apologizes to the bulb for yelling and starts to fret that he doesn't know how to take care of a baby plant, thinking it's much like human baby care. Bob tells him to give it plenty of sunshine, occasional water, and sometimes talk to it. Telly goes off to read his plant the story of "Jack and the Beanstalk," and when no one is looking, Bob decides to start telling one of his plants a joke.
