1 | [Minegarde Geography -2-] I am the top geographer in Minegarde. This is the record of my life's research. The second part of this research is on the Jungle zone. |
2 | Also known as a "rain forest," this zone has dense vegetation as far as the eye can see. This often causes delays in spotting monsters. This is an area where you must definitely pay attention to your surroundings. |
3 | The high humidity in this area contributes to the dense plant growth. There is an abundance of mushrooms, that are often the subject of gathering quests from the Guild. |
4 | There are also a great number of Jungle caves. Unlike the Jungle itself, the temperature inside these caves is very low, due to the influence of underground water sources. |
5 | You should be especially aware of monsters such as the Gypceros and Yian Kut-Ku. They are the most bird-like of the small wyverns. You may also spot giant Plesioths in the Jungle streams. |
6 | Outside of wyverns, you should be careful of monsters like the Vespoid and Hornetaur. These giant bugs often swarm, causing great amounts of damage. This also seems to cause quite a few quests centering around their extermination. |
About the Desert

---|---|
1 | [Minegarde Geography -3-] I am the top geographer in Minegarde. This is the record of my life's research. The third part of this research is on the Desert zone. |
2 | The Desert is a huge rocky field surrounded by mountains. The sun beats down mercilessly on the Desert, sapping the strength of hunters who venture into its grips. Cool Drinks are indispensable for trips into the Desert. |
3 | The Desert is also home to things like the anti-poison Cactus Flower, as well as the Power Seed, which has a mysterious effect on its users, and the Fire Herb, capable of releasing fire. The Cactus Flower is especially important, as it can only be obtained in the Desert. |
4 | One should take care of the Sand Wyvern, also known as a Cephalos. It utilizes the fine grain sand as a medium to travel and hide. When it is traveling through the sand , only its fin can be seen, so the utmost of caution is required. |
5 | A wyvern called Diablos has also been spotted in the Desert zone. A wyvern sporting giant horns, it is incredibly powerful. Rumor has it that you can also fish for Plesioth in the massive underground lake, although I have yet to confirm this as fact. |
About the Swamp
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Minegarde Geography -4-] I am the top geographer in Minegarde. This is the record of my life's research. The fourth part of this research is on the Swamp zone. |
2 | The Swamp zone is a narrow strip of damp and humid marshlands enveloped in mist, characterized by the presence of caves. These caves, are very cold, so without adequate protection from these extreme temperatures stamina will be quickly depleted. However, the caves are also a great source of ore, so they are often visited by hunters. |
3 | One of the best ways to protect against the cold is by consuming a Hot Drink. By warming the interior of the body, it is able to curb sudden decreases in stamina. You can also counter-act the cold by wearing armor with high heat retention. |
4 | Due to the high humidity in the region, there are a large variety of mushrooms that can be gathered. For instance, Toadstools and Nitroshrooms are said to be quite abundant in the region. Due to their ability to be combined with many things, these mushrooms are considered a necessity for every hunter. |
5 | One should be cautious with the albino wyverns that dwell in the caves. There is little definitive evidence of these white monsters, but they are said to be eyeless beasts that appear suddenly and strike with strong thunder attacks. However, the facts are hard to discern from rumors. |
6 | One must also beware of the many wyverns from the volcano that slip into the area. Aside from wyverns, eye-witness reports state that herds of Bullfango have been spotted, so caution is a prerequisite for traveling the Swamp zone. |
About the Volcanic Belt
- On page one they made a typo. In-game it says "fourth part", but actually its the fifth.
- This error isn't fixed in either version of the game.

---|---|
1 | [Minegarde Geography -5-] I am the top geographer in Minegarde. This is the record of my life's research. The fourth part of this research is on the Volcanic Belt. |
2 | The Volcanic Belt is a land where the harsh nature of volcanic rock has killed off all the vegetation. The energy sapping heat is also known to have killed many who travel into the zone. Thus, it is necessary to properly prepare for any trips into this area. |
3 | However, this is not to say that there is a lack of life in the Volcanic Belt. Quite the contrary. Fire Herbs grow in abundance in the volcanic rock. Moreover, the fortitude enhancing Armor Seed can only be found in the Volcanic Belt. |
4 | The main characteristic of the zone is the overwhelming abundance of ore. From rocky areas, to caves, to the mouth of volcanoes themselves, it is possible to gather various types of ores. There is never a shortage of hunters trudging up the mountain with pickaxes in tow. |
5 | You should beware the powerful wyvern Gravios, as well the rock like Basarios. Both of these wyverns have exceptionally hard shells that can make it difficult to damage them with normal weapons. |
6 | Beyond wyverns, Ioprey are often spotted in this zone. These small red monsters are equipped with a powerful nausea inducing poison, so great care should be exercised when dealing with these beasts. |
About the Fortress
About Castle Schrade

1 | [Minegarde Geography -Breaking Report-] I am the top geographer in Minegarde. This is the record of my life's research. I was commissioned to complete this special report with great haste, thus this report contains the latest news available about Castle Schrade. |
2 | Castle Schrade is an ancient castle built upon a wide open plain, and is the setting for an epic battle to slay the wyvern Fatalis. It appears the castle has prepared siege weapons. However these weapons require great capital, thus the contract fee is directly related to the number of siege weapons available. |
3 | These siege weapons are like those available to the fort. Ballista, Great Cannon, and the ultimate weapon, the Dragonator, all appear to be available for use at Castle Schrade. Once again, this all depends on the funds... as the Guild is surprisingly poor. |
4 | That is the latest information about Castle Schrade. Since I myself was rushed into action by the sudden appearance of Fatalis, please excuse any hastiness in the preparation of this report. |
Melee Weapons Usage
Part 1
- The in-game title of the topic is "Melee Weapons Usage 1"

1 | [RED DEVIL MELEE WEAPONS COURSE -1-] Don't you know who I am? I'm Red Devil of the fearsome Hell Brothers! Even crying babies stop their sniveling when they catch sight of a strong hunter like me! I'm going to be giving a melee weapons lecture for the subscribers of 'Hunting Life'! |
2 | Melee weapons! A man's true love! There are those who love their bowguns, but only a real man knows the joy of specializing in a melee weapon, and leaping with joy in the blood and carnage his skilled attacks create. |
3 | There is one absolutely critical point to using melee weapons, and that is Sharpness. No matter how famous the sword, or how small the enemy, the more you slash an enemy, the more a weapon's Sharpness decreases. |
4 | As Sharpness decreases, so does the power of the weapon. It is even possible that the weapon may snap during usage. Conversely, when the Sharpness of a weapon is high, its attack strength is also heightened. So make sure to keep your weapon sharp! |
5 | When a melee weapon becomes dull, it is time to use a Whetstone! Not a Wetstone, a Whetstone! By rubbing the Whetstone against the blade, you can revive its Sharpness with ease! HAHAHAHA! |
6 | However, that is only a temporary solution to the problem. You'll want a weapon that will not lose its Sharpness over time... Everyone agrees with me, right? By improving a weapon, you not only increase its power, but you can also increase its durability. |
7 | There are six degrees of Sharpness for melee weapons. This value fluctuates depending on how a weapon is improved, but it is safe to say a weapon can be improved to about the fifth level. It seems that the sixth level of Sharpness can only be reached by improving special weapons. |
8 | The limit on Sharpness upgrades via improvement is the sixth level, and this cannot be exceeded. However, if you get to a veteran level like myself, there are ways to improve Sharpness outside of upgrading a weapon. Well, that is enough for now. Look forward to my next lecture! Hahahaha! |
Part 2
- The in-game title of the topic is "Melee Weapons Usage 2"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [RED DEVIL MELEE WEAPONS COURSE -2-] Hahahahahahaha! How are you all my little hunter boys and girls today? It is time for the second melee weapons course, with yours truly, the fearsome Hell Brother, Red Devil! |
2 | This time, I am going to give you a lecture about some insightful pieces of melee weapon knowledge!
First, attacking with a melee weapon! It is not ok to swing it around carelessly like some child's toy! Understand? |
3 | There are three steps to an attack with a melee weapon. Drawing the weapon, applying the force, and the final follow-through. The strongest part of the attack is... I shouldn't have to tell you... Exactly! it is "Applying the Force"! |
4 | These stages are even more important to hunting game than sharpening a weapon. Drawing a weapon requires no strength at all. Hitting a monster while drawing a weapon is likely to damage the weapon. This is something you must make a great effort to avoid when using melee weapons. |
5 | So, how exactly do you attack an enemy with the highest strength possible...? The most important things are distance and timing. You must judge your weapon's reach and your enemy's movements. This is not something I can explain to you, but something that you must learn for yourself and develop an intuition. |
6 | If that is difficult, you should use a weapon with excellent Sharpness. If a weapon is sharp enough, strength is no longer important, as it will slice through an opponent anyways. It is also important to allow your equipment to fill in the gaps of your technique. |
7 | The second subject I want to discuss is when, despite using a weapon to its potential, an opponent is just too hard to compete against. Wyverns like Basarios and Gravios are covered in a hard shell. Normal weapons won't leave a mark on these beasts, despite your best efforts. |
8 | However, every monster has a weak point. For every hard point, there must also be a soft point. Where are these weak points located... well that is a trade secret. One of the keys to being a successful hunter is learning to attack in the most effective manner. |
9 | Next, even if they have a hard shell, it is easy to damage a monster via elemental attacks. If a monster is frustrating you with defenses, try using a weapon that can attack with the elements. |
10 | Finally, I want to remind you all that killing a wyvern is not an easy thing, and it is often the case that the slaying of a wyvern is for revenge. To those who hunger for revenge, let me give you some advice on weapon selection. If you meet defeat despite using a complete set of armor, a weapon with a Defense bonus would be a wise choice. |
11 | There are even weapons that increase your Defense just by carrying them. By using these types of weapons, it lowers your chances of defeat. It is important to consider more than just attack strength when selecting a weapon. That is all for now. Go out there and make me proud, little boys and girls! Hahahaha! |
Weapon Creation And Improvement

1 | [Interview: Ask the Crafter Part One] Today, we want to ask questions of a dynamic duo of crafters who have gained the respect of hunters far and wide for their work at the crafting shop- Bone Elder & Iron Elder! Their amazing works have hunters frothing with rabid desire! |
2 | Q: First things first, let's talk about the manufacturing process of a weapon.
Bone Elder (BE): Bone makes a great crafting material! Its touch! Its feel! It's great! Iron Elder (IE): What is he talking about!? Metal has weight and radiance. It is clearly superior! |
3 | Q: No no! Not about materials. I wanted to ask about the entire process of making a weapon.
BE: The entire process!? Whether you are crafting a new weapon at the Crafting Shop, or just improving one, the most important thing is absolutely materials! |
4 | Q: OK OK. Iron Elder what are your thoughts on materials?
IE: Well for creating a new item, it is key to procure so-called special materials. If you get these, you can create new pieces of equipment. When you get some new materials, you should bring them to the Crafting Shop. |
5 | Q: What do you feel are some of the key materials?
BE: Well, I can't really tell you a rule but... You can often get materials from monsters. For instance, armor can be made from scales or shells. For weapons, you should try using horns or fangs. Bone is also a good material for weapons. |
6 | IE: Is he still talking about bone!? The key item is clearly ore. On hard or G-Class quests, you can find rare ores. That is the most important item for crafting. As you rise in class, you should dig for ore! |
7 | Q: Next we would like to ask about upgrades. Can you describe how to improve equipment?
BE: Basically it extracts the potential from a weapon. For melee weapons, it means advancing to the next level of a weapon's evolution. IE: Exactly. By getting materials and improving equipment, you can mold it into excellence. Now that's progress! |
8 | Q: Progress?
BE: Progress. The first step in this evolution is the improvement of a weapon's Sharpness. The next step is improving the weapon itself. This is usually the end of basic improvements. Improving a weapon is that simple. |
9 | IE: Evolving a weapon is not just a one-way street. It is a process of finding the right path. Improving melee weapons is the same thing. According to the materials used, you can raise offensive power, elemental ability, or Sharpness. |
10 | BE: Let's talk about Bone Materials...
Q: So, um... How do you improve a bowgun? BE: Improving a bowgun is different from improving a melee weapon. For instance, you don't need materials, just money. Bowgun parts that can be improved are delicate. You can't just bang on things and hope they turn out ok. |
11 | IE: Just to add, improving a bowgun is not about improving its overall offensive abilities. It can also be about adding a Long Barrel to snipe far away wyverns, or adding a Silencer to muffle the sounds of a bowgun. It is important to pay attention to these two things as well. |
12 | We would like to thank Bone Elder and Iron Elder for their sincerity in answering our questions about weapons manufacturing. Join us in our next issue as we discuss the ins and outs of improving a weapon with these 2 predominant crafters. |

1 | [Interview: Ask the Crafter Part Two] Let's continue our discussion with the dynamic duo of crafters Bone Elder and Iron Elder in our 'Ask the Crafter' series. The second half of our interview covers the finer points of Bone and Iron materials. |
2 | Q: Alright. Let's talk about the features of Iron and Bone.
Bone Elder (BE): Bone is the supreme material! Iron Elder (IE): NO! IRON REIGNS SUPREME! BE: What!? Iron, you have no idea what your talking about! Shut up. IE: I have no idea? Shut up? If anyone should shut up, it should be you! |
3 | Q: Since it obviously isn't going to be cordial, let's take turns. Bone, your first.
BE: You know the truth. Young people should know too. Bone Manufacturing! It has a number of special abilities such as Poison or Paralysis effects. It is like the power of a monster in your hands! |
4 | BE: The most well known of all the bone materials is Monster Bone. Monster Bone comes in three sizes, Small, Medium, and Large. There are also high quality bones - Monster Bone+ and Hard Monster Bone. You can use these for general purpose bone equipment, but don't expect any special effects. |
5 | BE: If you are after the special effects, you are going to have to use materials from specific wyverns. For instance, by using Rathalos Scale, your weapon can gain increased Fire abilities. A crafting material's value is related to these special abilities. |
6 | BE: As you fight various monsters, you will be able to gather up valuable materials. You can never forget to carve materials from a monster once it is defeated. |
7 | IE: You talk entirely too much. I'm too old for this! But now it is my turn to talk... Iron Crafting! It is even more powerful and Sharp! Solid and flexible with high usability, there just is no substitute! |
8 | IE: The most famous iron materials would be Iron Ore and Machalite Ore. High quality ores are those like Dragonite and Carbalite. Getting ahold of either one is quite an advantage over basic ores. |
9 | IE: By using a Pickaxe in rocky areas or caves, you can mine for these ores. You should never forget to equip a Pickaxe when heading off on a Quest. Pickaxes... Never leave home without them! |
10 | BE: It is unbecoming to get so excited at your age! Anyways, we all know that there are many places where Bone shows its true worth. However, by placing Bone together with Iron, you can truly strengthen an item. |
11 | IE: Hmph. Look at you talking nice. But only gathering one kind of material would be a fool's folly. Only Iron or only Bone. Either is a mistake. Only through their miraculous collaboration are the best items created.
BE: Exactly. |
12 | -- They may not look like they get along, but the truth is they rely on and trust each other like friends and partners, and it comes through in this interview. We would like to thank Bone Elder and Iron Elder for their time and patience in giving us this interview. End. |

1 | [Practical Hunting Lecture -Melee Weapons-] There are hunters who are happy they have made it into the hunting ranks, but are unsure of what weapon to use. In this lecture, we will give these worried hunters a special report on swords. |
2 | Many people feel that swords are simple weapons for weak beginners, but the truth is that they are weapons with immense depth. Sure, it is true that a single hit is relatively minor, and that it is possible to be knocked out of one's guard; however, swords make up for this with a plethora of special characteristics and attributes. |
3 | The interval between sword attacks is very small, so combination attacks suit this weapon well. Moreover, swords are graced with the ability to quickly shift from attacking to defending and evasion. This is an excellent feature to have when facing large groups of monsters, or especially nimble ones like the Velociprey. |
4 | When facing the toughest class of wyverns, you can see a sword's true worth by using its attributes. Weapons capable of afflicting a monster with special ailments in a rapid number of hits are quick to show their effectiveness. Swords fit this bill nicely! |
5 | Furthermore, weapons with Fire or Water attributes validate all the labor needed to make them. Attribute damage is constant damage. It will damage a monster no matter how hard their flesh. |
6 | Another one of the benefits of a sword is the fact that they do not require a vast quantity of materials to create or improve. The prices they command are also less than comparable weapons in other classes, and swords can be improved into powerful Dual Blades. |
7 | Let me talk about some swords you can attain even with a low Hunter's Rank. First is the Red Saber. Made from Rathalos Shell, among other Fire Wyvern materials, this sword has a strong Fire attribute. If you continue to improve this with Fire Wyvern materials, it will be capable of incredible power! |
8 | Next is the Deathprize. By using Genprey materials to improve a Viper Bite (made from Velociprey), you can create a sword with a powerful paralysis attribute. By afflicting wyverns with this paralysis effect, attacking them becomes a veritable pinata party. |
9 | Last, I would like to talk about the Poison Battleaxe. It uses Monster Bone, along with the Poison Sacs from a monster's internal organs, and Gypceros Hide for protection. The Poison Battleaxe's high attack strength and poison attribute make it a textbook hunter's weapon. |
10 | Large numbers, an abundance of attributes, and easy to acquire. These are all the strengths of a sword. You, too, should give a sword a try today! |
Great Sword

- In the US-Version of MHF1 are many errors. On page 8 the Aqua Spear is referred as a Fire attribute weapon that needs Rathalos materials to improve.
- In the EU-Version this errors are fixed. On page 8 the Aqua Spear is referred as a Water attribute weapon that needs Plesioth materials to improve.

Bowgun Usage
Part 1
- The in-game title of the topic is "Bowgun Usage 1"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [The Gunner's Book -1-] I, the " Legendary Gunner ", am using this manuscript to record everything for those aiming to become gunners in the generations to come. It will cover all matters related to gunners, from the basics to the advanced. |
2 | The ancients often said, "There is a pioneer for even the littlest things." Lately, people are prone to forgetting the words of the pioneers, and there are many who pay these words no heed. I would like to thank the editors of Hunting Life for giving me a place to spread these words. I pray that hunters assist me in my quest. |
3 | In the first part of this series, I would like to create a reference for the basic of the basic. First, let's talk about Bowgun ammo. |
4 | It is natural that a bowgun without bullets cannot stand in battle. If you aim to be a gunner, you must make it a habit to carry enough bullets for the fight ahead. |
5 | As for how to acquire ammo, lately it has been available for purchase in the armor shop. As a low ranking hunter, you can request that the Guild show favor upon you and provide you with ammo provisions. These are the simplest ways of getting ammo. |
6 | However, there is never enough money to buy all the ammo you need, and the basic ammo provided by the Guild will never lead you to improvement. If you really want to become a gunner, you must learn the fine art of creating your own ammunition. |
7 | Creating your own ammo is as simple as Combining. We will cover the specifics of this process in a later edition, but basically you gather materials in the field and try various combinations to make the best ammunition. |
Part 2
- The in-game title of the topic is "Bowgun Usage 2"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [The Gunner's Book -2-] The second part of The Gunner's Book covers items that must garner a gunner's attention. First, it goes without saying that there are two large divisions of Bowguns. |
2 | Light Bowguns are weak, but light and easy to use. In contrast, guns that trade light weight for high power are called Heavy Bowguns. Each one has its pluses and minuses, and you should choose which one to use according to your enemy and your friends. |
3 | The Light Bowgun allows you to run while it is drawn. I suppose one can say that, when facing a giant wyvern, it is important to be agile and strafe the beast. On the other hand, a Heavy Bowgun makes up for its weight in power. Its ability to fire powerful ammo is a clear indication of its value. |
4 | The second point you must be aware of as a gunner is how to properly gauge the range to a target. The power needed to hit a target can change dramatically depending on which ammunition you are using. Even when you use the same shot, a change in distance could mean double the firing power is needed. |
5 | The power needed can depend on the type of shot, as well as the type of bowgun. Not too fast, not too close. The intuition needed to join a shot with the optimum distance and power is critical to a hunter. |
6 | At any rate, gunners are a team. Depending on the ammunition being used, a strong attacker should be coupled with a rock-steady supporter, whose role it is to slow a monster down. Victory or defeat depends entirely on this gunner team. |
7 | Finally, I would like to add one last item with regards to bowgun usage. I recommend that you create ammo more often than you buy. By creating ammo, it costs half as much than if you were to buy it. While you do need materials to create ammo, as a hunter, this shouldn't pose a problem. |
About Ammunition
Part 1
- The in-game title of the topic is "About Ammunition 1"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [The Gunner's Book -3-] The third part of my Gunner's Book series will cover the ins and outs of the most important item for a gunner, ammunition. In part one, I covered the basic methods of attaining ammunition, this time i would like to talk about how to combine things to create your own ammunition. |
2 | How to combine things should be common sense for an intelligent hunter, but for the sake of completeness, I will cover everything. From the Menu, select Combine, and then select two materials to combine. Depending on the two materials you selected, you can create your own ammunition. |
3 | There are five advantages to making ammo.
1: Lower Cost 2: Able to make ammunition during a Quest 3: Depending on the ammo, you can create multiple shots by combining only once 4: Make strong shots not sold in stores 5: Use more shots than the area carrying restrictions allow |
4 | About No. 1: Since a hunter can gather or fish for materials during a quest, and may even be rewarded for doing so, there should be no need to worry about the cost of creating ammo. However, even though it is hard to get many materials at once, you must be careful of buying materials at a store, since it adversely affects cost. |
5 | About No. 2: Depending on the ammo, you will gather the materials in the field, or carve them from slain monsters. When you don't have enough ammo, you can replace your ammo in the field. Resupplying in the field is important when trying to slay giant wywerns or when presented with unforeseen circumstances. |
6 | About No. 3: For different bowgun shots, one combination session can yield from one to four shots. Shots that you use more frequently will net a higher yield than other forms of ammunition. |
7 | About No. 4: You create all of the different forms of ammunition via combination. High level ammo not sold in stores, and other special forms of ammo can be attain by combining materials. A top class gunner is also a top class combiner. |
8 | Finally, About No. 5: This is one of utmost importance. There is a limit on the number of shots one can possess. However, there are many giant wywerns that cannot be slayed within that limited number of shots. |
9 | So, gather up materials during the Quest, and when your ammunition has been depleted, combine these materials to replenish your stocks. When facing a giant wywern, this is one of the most important battle techniques for a gunner. |
10 | That about covers the serious issue of combining. In the next edition, we will build upon this lecture and provide a recipe for creating various different shots. |
Part 2
- The in-game title of the topic is "About Ammunition 2"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [The Gunner's Book -4-] The fourth part of my series will focus on the basic recipes for the ammo that can be made by combining. I believe one of the best parts of being a gunner is the ability to master all the different shots that can be used in a bowgun. |
2 | There are three basic materials that you need to craft ammunition. Huskberry, Small Bone Husk, and Large Bone Husk. Bone Husk is the husk of a bone from a monster’s spine. Due to its extreme strength, powerful shots can be created using Bone Husk. |
3 | Put simply, Huskberry is a material that is used frequently, while Large Bone Husk is used when combining to make powerful shots, and Small Bone Husk is used for ammunition with mid–range power. The most basic notion you should remember is that Huskberry can be used to make everything from Normal S to the most power ammunitions around. |
4 | You can fill husks with materials from a truly diverse set of sources. These empty shells can be combined with materials taken from plants, fish, or monsters. Let’s go over some classic recipes for each one of these classes. |
5 | First, let’s take a look at Plant materials. Berries or Mushrooms with special natural properties are quite compatible with Huskberry, also a member of the plant class of materials. This class generally creates shots low in power, but there are exceptions. Dragonseed and Large Bone Husk combine to make Dragon S, a great shot to use against wyverns. |
6 | Here are a few recipes indicative of what Huskberry is capable of: Huskberry and Scatternut will create Pellet S LV1, while Huskberry and Bomberry combine to create Clust LV1. Moreover, by using Power Seed or Armor Seed, you can create highly effective medicines like Demondrug and Armorskin. |
7 | Next, let’s discuss the Fish class of materials. There are a wide variety of Fish materials that can be used to craft ammo, especially those from an Arrowana, which prove priceless when crafting Crag S. Scatterfish can be used to make Clust S LV3, while Pin Tuna can make Pierce S LV3. |
8 | Finally, let me say a few words about Monster materials. Using materials that were formerly a monster’s implements of war, like fangs or claws, to create ammo is known as a traditional method of supply. Velociprey Fang can create Pierce S LV1, while Ioprey Fang can make Poison S LV2. Finally, Genprey Fang is used to create Stun S LV2. |
9 | It is also worth mentioning that Wyvern Fang and Wyvern Claw are both treasures when used as ammo materials. I have already mentioned some common recipes; however, there are many more ammo types than the few I mentioned. There are attribute shots like Flaming S and Ice S, while Demon S and Armor S make good ammo for supporting your comrades in battle. |
10 | I believe the wide variety of shots a gunner can use is an advantage over users of melee weapons. It allows a hunter to adapt tactics and ammunition to the prey being stalked. A gunner who can do this properly is said to have truly grown into their position. |
Bowgun Creation and Improvement
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [The Gunner's Book -5-] The final part of my Gunner's Book will cover the Creation and Improvement of Bowguns. |
2 | Improving a Bowgun is different than improving a melee weapon. In return for not needing materials, specific items must be acquired to improve a bowgun. In this sense, improving a bowgun is actually more like customization. |
3 | There are four types of improvements for a bowgun. Level Up is literally a full improvement of the bowgun. Attack strength is raised, as well as shell velocity, and accuracy. There are up to five levels a gun can reach. I recommend improving your bowgun as high as your budget will allow. |
4 | Next is attaching a Silencer to a bowgun. This item silences the report of your bowgun when attacking, making you less of a target to a monster then other hunters. However, monsters are no fools. Using this when you are alone or too close to other hunters nullifies its affects, so you must be careful. |
5 | You can also add a Long Barrel to bowgun. A Long Barrel reduces the amount of drift in a bullet's path, increasing the accuracy of the bowgun. Moreover, the initial barrel velocity is also raised, so one can expect an overall increase in efficiency. |
6 | Finally, a Zoom Scope can also be attached to a bowgun. By pressing left or right on the directional buttons, you can change the degree of zoom. By changing the zoom to match the situation, you can execute precise, long range attacks. However, you must have steady hands when aiming with high zoom. |
7 | Now lets talk about Bowgun Creation. For melee weapons, you can make a weak weapon and improve it along the way until it becomes a weapon of true power. However, since improving a bowgun is fundamentally different, you can start off by making a strong weapon. When creating a new bowgun, you should always consider your present abilities and situation. |
8 | Finally, let's go over a few bowguns you can acquire even if you are a low ranking Hunter. First, let's examine the Shotgun (Azure). Made from Velociprey material, it is sold as a high capacity Pellet S bowgun. It is possible to shoot friends with Pellet S, so be careful; however, when attacking many monsters at once no other shot is stronger. |
9 | Next up is the Valkyrie Fire. With reassuring attack strength, and the ability to use high powered shells, this is a light bowgun with many fans. Made with Rathian Scales and Shell, along with Machalite Ore and Gunpowder, this gun is said to match its high material requirements with its high usability. |
10 | Finally, I'd like to introduce the heavy bowgun Tankmage. Made from Gypceros materials along with Machalite Ore, this gun's attack strength is said to bolster the reputation of the entire heavy bowgun class. Furthermore, it can use all the abnormal condition shells, once again proving its worth. |
11 | Now that we have discussed the five major points of a bowgun, I understand that no matter the number of benefits, there is still some hesitation in becoming a gunner. However, I hope that all who have read my text now have been instilled with enough knowledge to take up the bowgun without any lingering doubts. |
12 | More than just having knowledge of bullets and bowgun usage, I hope that you have come to understand the benefits involved with using a bowgun. Also, I'd like to apologize to my fellow bowgun masters for being presumptuous enough to think that an old fool such as myself could teach bowgun novices. |
13 | I would like to thank all of you readers who have followed my manuscript to the very end, as well as the editors of this magazine for their advice. Finally, I would like to thank the villagers of Kokoto for their assistance and support in my return to active duty. |
About Monster Materials

---|---|
1 | [Practical Hunting -Monster Materials-] You want monster materials, but you can't slay a single thing... There must be hunters thinking this right now. This report is aimed at these hunters, and in this edition, we will cover destroying specific monster parts. |
2 | You can get these materials without having to slay flying wyverns. All you have to do is destroy certain parts. There are two types of parts destruction. The first is cutting off a monster's tail and gathering the parts, while the second is destroying horns or claws and receiving a reward after a Quest is finished. |
3 | There are wyverns who are prone to having their beloved tails hacked clean off. The good news is you can carve materials from these dismembered tails. Of course, you must be using a weapon capable of slicing to remove a wyvern's tail. |
4 | To be rewared with materials, like horns or claws, you should make a concentrated attack on the part that you want to receive. You can confirm that you got it by simply clearing the Quest. Of course, for Quests that require slaying a wyvern, you must slay it; however, in other Quests, this is an easy way to obtain materials. |
5 | Even on a Hunting Quest, a reward for destroying specific parts of a monster is added onto the normal reward for the quest. Thus, it is a good idea to always be aware of your attacks. |
6 | I don't just want materials, I want to slay a wyvern! Here is a tip on destroying pieces of a wyvern for hunters who think in this manner. Specific shots and melee weapons carry special attributes, of which some could overpower the weak points of a wyvern. |
7 | If you match a weapon with a wyvern's weak points, for instance Fire or Thunder, you can cause a great deal of damage. ...What wyvern has what weak point? Well, relax for a minute and let me explain... |
8 | To determine a monster's weak points, you should first look at armor made from that monster's materials. For instance, armor that is weak against Fire is a good indication that the wyvern it is made from is also weak versus Fire. However, there can be exceptions to this rule. |
9 | You do not necessarily have to create armor, weak points can also be determined even if you only have key items. You can confirm things by taking these key items to the Crafting Shop... Just to recap, obtaining key materials from a wyvern without slaying it is called Part Destruction. |

---|---|
1 | [Practical Hunting -Small Monsters-] This section of Practical Hunting will discuss increasing damage when fighting monsters. This information, collected from the important points passed on to beginners by the Hunter's Guild, is worth reading for anyone who wants to become a hunter. |
2 | This section features information on the important points of Velociprey and other small monsters. These small monsters are prevalent in many zones of the world, and are often the first monsters a beginning hunter will face. This class of monsters includes the Velociprey, Genprey, and Ioprey. |
3 | The common feature among them is that they all travel in flocks. Alone they are not much of a threat, but they will work as a group to surround a hunter, attacking from all directions. Always stay aware of your surroundings, and try and position yourself so they can only approach from one direction. |
4 | Depending on the situation, there may even be a leader among the flock. These monsters are different from the norm. They are extremely strong, and can summon other members of the flock. They will also run off to a different zone to recover strength when they sense mortal danger. |
5 | If you see this happening, throw a Flash Bomb to impede the leader's movement. It will temporarily stun the leader and allow you time to catch up and slay it. This technique can also be used if you do not have enough strength left to fight. Throw the Flash Bomb to cover your escape. |
6 | Next, let's take a look at a breed in this class. With beautiful blue scales, the flock traveling Velociprey is deadly with its long range jumping attack. If you are unaccustomed to hunting, this is a monster that can easily catch you at unawares. |
7 | The materials taken from this monster are quite useful, and are often worn by those aiming to take a step up as a hunter. Occasionally, you may come upon a Velociprey with white scales. Equipment made from the materials carved from this White Velociprey are quite different from those of a normal Velociprey. |
8 | The Desert dwelling Genprey is typified by its long fangs. These fangs have a powerful paralysis inducing neurotoxin that snatches away the ability to move from all who fall victim to its attacks. Medicines and herbs cannot protect against this paralysis, so the utmost care should be paid when facing a Genprey. |
9 | However, thanks to its special properties, one of the key traits to materials taken from a Genprey is the Paralysis attribute. Not just contained in its fangs, the Gendrome has Stun Sacs that can be carved from its body. These Stun Sacs can induce incredibly powerful paralysis on those who fall victim to their contents. |
10 | The Ioprey is an iconic red monster that makes its home in the heart of the Volcanic Belt. Comparatively tall, one should beware of its Poison Spray attack. If you are poisoned by an Ioprey, it will slowly suck away your strength until you take a curing Antidote. Quite a dangerous situation to be in. |
11 | The strength of an Ioprey is also reflected in its materials. Armor made from the red scales are a defensive step above those made from Velociprey. You can also make weapons with a Poison attribute from the Ioprey's Poison Sacs or Poison Fangs. |
12 | The first step to becoming a hunter is being able to slay Velociprey class small monsters. The Guild is always accepting members for our Quests. |
About Felynes
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [The Story of the Felyne] The one and only hunter of the Felyne race! That's me. Of course, becoming a Felyne hunter was no easy feat. |
2 | This is the first contribution to Hunting Life by a Felyne. For only I could force open the door to Felyne history! Well, that is enough introduction, so if you don't mind, let me tell you a little bit about the Felyne. |
3 | We Felynes are a quiet race. For many years we have lived alongside wyvern and human, serving in a variety of roles. We have been salesmen and waiters, and it is not uncommon for a Felyne to reach a high position in the Guild, or become a top chef. We are also bound by a job placement agreement with the Wyvern race. We hunt for jobs in villages and towns. |
4 | Since we have cultivated relationships with other species, we have many friends in this land. However, we are a brave race, and if faced with an enemy, we will stand and face them straight on. Despite our appearance, it is a good idea to avoid any confrontations with a Felyne. |
5 | However, for hunters, it is even more important to be aware of our dark haired cousins the Melynx. Their curiosity may not kill them... but it may lead them to sneak up on a hunter and rob the hunter blind. |
6 | They are quite irritating, but what they are really after is Felvine. If you happen to be carrying this item, they will steal it right out of your hands. I have no idea how many times they have stolen my beloved Felvine from right out of my paws... The point is, you have to be very, very careful when carrying Felvine. |
7 | The good news is that you can travel to their dens and recover your possessions. You can also take things they have thrown away. There are Melynx in the Forest and Hills, Desert, and Swamp. If you are robbed in other areas, I have no idea what you should do! |
8 | Since we happen to be in the same profession, I suppose I could provide some information on the Felyne weapons. First is the Catspaw, it can be made from materials like the Pawprint Stamp and Barrel Lid, and is an excellent weapon with a Paralysis attribute. With it, you too can become a Felyne. |
9 | You may be able to find the rare Barrel Lid inside a Melynx den. Also, to create a Catspaw, you must use tickets given out by Felyne chefs. These chefs may give you a taste of my favorite food, and even make you stronger. |
10 | That's all I've got to say about us Felynes. I was only paid five Felvines for this article, so I suppose I won't be retiring from hunting anytime soon. If you ever have a question about Felyne bravery, track me down and bring a Felvine... you can ask me anything. Nya nya nya nya nya... |
About Insects
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Celebrity Hunter -Hooray for Bug Collecting-] Hello everyone! How are you!? Since my fishing column was so popular, the magazine has requested that I write a short article on collecting bugs. I can't believe they think I have talent! |
2 | If you've got a Bugnet or a Mega Bugnet, you should be able to leisurely collect insects. Even if you don't have large financial resources, you can pick up an Old Bugnet, which should do the job, I guess... |
3 | In the field, there are lights dancing in the sky, aren't there? Those lights are actually insects. If you use a Bugnet in those areas, you can gather up insects. |
4 | There is a large diversity in the bugs you can collect. For example, the Bitterbug. It is a bug famous with hunters for the large number of items it can be combined with. Or how about the Thunderbug, a bug that can be used in the making of amazing weapons. |
5 | There are also giant insects that cannot be collected with a Bugnet. The Vespoid and the Hornetaur are two examples of this type of insect. Were you aware that sudden explosions in the population of these insects is known to cause significant damage to the surroundings? |
6 | If you attack them outright with your weapons, they will scatter. If you are after these insect for materials, it is important that you keep one thing in mind... Poison. Yes. Poison. By killing them slowly, they won't scatter. Understand? |
7 | Hunters should prepare Poison weapons, such as Poison S for a bowgun, or a sword with a Poison attribute. With these weapons, a hunter can acquire highly sought after materials from these giant insects. |
8 | Their shells can be used to make armor, and while their normal wings are useless, the Bladefin of a giant insect can cut through things like iron, and can be used to make weapons. Moreover, Monster Fluid taken from insects is useful in armor crafting, and can even be used as a combining material, causing it to command a very high price! |
9 | Finally, although it was previously covered by the Bone Elder, in places that are plagued by Vespoids, you can obtain a valuable material called Vespoid Abdomen. I've never seen it, but I'm sure it can be used to make an incredible weapon. |
10 | That's it for my article on bug collecting. I hope that it has inspired everyone to take up bug collecting! |
About Wyverns
Part 1
- The in-game title of the topic is "About Wyverns 1"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Practical Hunting -Wyverns Part 1-] This section of Practical Hunting will discuss increasing damage when fighting monsters. This information, collected from the important points passed on to beginners by the Hunter's Guild, is worth reading for anyone who wants to take a step up as a hunter. |
2 | In this article I would live to cover the important points of the small wyverns roaming the world like Yian Kut-Ku, Gypceros, and Cephadrome. At this Guild, we like to use our knowledge to help inform beginning hunters on the relatively easy methods of slaying these beasts. |
3 | While they are small and relatively easy to slay, these wyverns should still be treated with the respect the wyvern name deserves. There are many times when negligence can prove fatal, so adequate recover items, support items, equipment, wisdom, and technique are all required to take one of these beasts down. |
4 | No matter what kind of wyvern you face, it is important to monitor their movements and condition to determine the best time to attack. Moreover, if they have a weak point, you should exploit it. If you are faced against a wyvern weak versus light or sound, the Guild will make every effort to provide you with the appropriate provisions. |
5 | Another important point to remember is to never allow a wyvern to recover. If a wyvern is allowed to eat or drink it can recover its strength. Also, if a wyvern is allowed to sleep, it will quickly recover, so do your best to keep the beast from resting! |
6 | Next, let's examine each type of monster in greater depth. The Yian Kut-Ku, with its large ears and beak, is one of the most abundant of all wyverns. At times, their population has been known to explode in a single area. |
7 | The weak point of a Yian Kut-Ku happens to be their large ears. If you can set off a loud noise near their ears, it will limit their movements. Sonic Bombs are not the only item that can create these loud noises. Small Barrel Bombs and Crag S are also effective. Since Kut-Ku are also weak versus light, using a Flash Bomb will dizzy the monster. |
8 | When an area is plagued by Yian Kut-Ku, even expert hunters can't kill all of the monsters by themselves. As a result, the Guild will provide all who take these Quests with a Paw Pass Ticket, allowing you to exit the Quest. If you feel that you have reached the limit of your abilities, please deliver this ticket. Of course, you must still slay two Kut-Ku. |
9 | Next up is Gypceros, a monster typified by its sharp beak and large crest. Attacking this crest can release flashes of light. These flashes can be guarded against, but if you are using a weapon without a guard, it is best to try and destroy that crest as quickly as possible. |
10 | Gypceros' most effective weapon is the poison it can spray from its mouth. This poison is more potent than even an Ioprey's, and it can quickly bring about a hunter's last breaths. If possible, you should prepare Antidote. Other Gypceros features are its ability to feign death, its rubbery hide, and its vast material uses in equipment. |
11 | Finally, let's discuss the Cephadrome. Able to swim under the desert sands, and is impervious to the effects of bright flashes. They are, however, susceptible to sound attacks. By attacking them with sound, you just may cause them to jump out of the sand in pain! |
12 | However, even if you get it to spring out of the ground, don't think you are safe. Cephadrome has the ability to spit sand at high speed, capable of killing a hunter in an instant, and even a simple blow from the beast can be devastating. Its fins also contain Paralysis inducing poison that will numb any hunter careless enough to fall victim. |
13 | Being able to destroy wyverns is the true mark of a developed hunter. The Guild is always accepting members for our Guests. |
Part 2
- The in-game title of the topic is "About Wyverns 2"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Practical Hunting -Wyverns Part 2-] This section of Practical Hunting discuss increasing damage when fighting monsters. This information, collected from the important points passed to beginners by the Hunter's Guild, is worth reading for anyone who wants to make a name for themselves as a hunter. |
2 | This section will deal with the powerful wyverns Plesioth, Khezu, and Diablos. Yet, no matter how much experience a hunter piles up, these wyverns can quickly slay them. Thus, some may say that even the information compiled by the Guild is not sufficient enough for those facing these ferocious monsters. |
3 | A hunter must know that when facing these wyverns, just like the monsters introduced before, that they are incredibly strong. Adequate equipment, along with adequate knowledge and skill, are just one step on the road to defeating wyverns of this level. |
4 | Plesioth is a wyvern mainly found to be living in the water. When this beast is in its liquid home, only a gunner can effectively damage a Plesioth. Thus, it is important to coax it out of the water. |
5 | To get a Plesioth out of the water, the carrot and stick approach is best. Fish a Plesioth out of the water by using bait they love, or hit them with things they hate. Plesioths are said to love frogs, using a frog as live bait is a great way to catch a water wyvern. The Guild is still researching items that may be Plesioth irritants. |
6 | Khezu is a flying wyvern whose favorite habitats are often dark and damp areas, like caves. The Khezu is known for its ability to quickly kill; traveling along the roofs of caves, and dropping down next to a hunter, or even upon a hunter's head. Here, even more than usual, a hunter must pay attention to the world above them. |
7 | Also, a Khezu houses a powerful internal source of Thunder, allowing it to unleash Thunder attacks from its body. Those unlucky enough to get hit with this Thunder are subject to paralysis, or even worse, death. You must pay attention and avoid these attacks! |
8 | Finally, we want to briefly cover Diablos, a wyvern known to inhabit the Desert. With two giant horns attached to its head, this distinguishing feature is also its greatest weapon. When a Diablos uses its giant horns and massive strength to perform a thrust attack to any would be attackers, only the best armor can withstand the assault. |
9 | This powerful attack is also its greatest weakness. When a Diablos thrusts its horns into a rock wall, its inability to move freely is a hunter's opportunity to attack. By aiming at the horns, you can slay the wyvern. Diablos is also capable of diving into the sands. As this is still being researched, we advise striking in the same manner as Cephalos. |
10 | Use this information to slay flying wyverns, and you too will become a top class hunter. And remember, the Guild is always accepting members for our Quests. |
Lao-Shan Lung
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Hunter's Guild Special Report] An urgent communication to all hunters associated with the Guild. We have confirmed the rumors that a giant wyvern is approaching. |
2 | This mountain-like wyvern is confirmed to be Lao-Shan Lung. This wyvern's invasion poses a serious threat to our very existence. |
3 | We are preparing to ambush the monster at our Fortress on the outskirts of this land. Hunters, prepare for battle and help us stop this vile monster! |
4 | We are also preparing our ambush weapons at the Fortress - Ballista, Great Cannon, and the ultimate weapon, the Dragonator. Of course, these weapons are nothing without someone to men them. |
5 | We fear that these weapons alone will not be enough to bring down Lao-Shan Lung and are thus recruiting a corps of hunters ready to take the fight directly to the gigantic beast. Even those with no previous Guild affiliations are urged to join the fight. |
6 | If we are unable to stop Lao-Shan Lung, all sorts of calamities will surely befall our land. Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare for the fight of your lives! |
About
Combining
- The in-game title of the topic is "About Combining"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Combining Master's School] Hello, I am the Combiners apprentice. This magazine had originally requested a manuscript from the master; however, he is very busy, so I will humbly be taking his place. Even though I just started working here... |
2 | What is Combining? It is the mysterious art of taking two different items and creating a new item from them. Using items at hand to create useful new things is an indispensable skill for a hunter... or so I am told. |
3 | They also say that a hunter is not a hunter until he is a master of combining things. Sure, it is just a combination of two items, but the amount of combinations and their creative difficulty make it something you have to study to really get a handle on. |
4 | For difficult combinations, it is often the case that the success rate is very low, and the materials you had prepared to combine become useless trash. If this was to happen during a Quest it would be very disappointing. |
5 | This is why their exists the Book Of Combos series. Written by my master, they are absolutely indispensable. As you acquire each book in the 5 book series, your chances of success raise accordingly. You should definitely buy these, and I am not just trying to sell my master's work. I really mean it! |
6 | Now that the basics are out of the way, let me share a few tips I have learned so far. I suppose you know that if you combine Bitterbug with Honey you can create Catalyst, but did you know that combining Catalyst with other materials could radically increase their affectiveness? |
7 | For instance, if you combine it with Rare Steak, known to recover stamina, you can create Power Juice, which will give you unlimited stamina for a short period of time. Catalyst can be combined with other things as well. It is also said to go well with monster extracts; however, I am not familiar with the details. |
8 | Next I would like to explain how to create a unique flute. The first item to prepare is, of course, a Flute. You also want Medium Monster Bone. Combine these two with Lifepowder and Mega Demondrug. This will create a special flute with affects that can be felt by all the other hunters on the field. |
9 | Finally, let me tell you how to create Max Potion. Combine the rare and dangerous Dragon Toadstool with strength increasing Mega Nutrients to create Max Potion, a powerful potion that rapidly increases physical strength. |
10 | There are supposedly drugs even more powerful than Max Potion, but I haven't ever created one, as my master refuses to teach me these combinations... the Felyne shop across the way had no problem giving him the secrets though! Come to thing of it, I have seen him combining a special drug with some kind of horn... |
11 | That is all I have to write about combining, I am worried that I was not helpful, but since there are so many facets to combining, trying things out is the best way to learn. Thank you for reading this humble apprentice's thoughts and have a great time combining. |
Fishing
- The in-game title of the topic is "About Fishing"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Celebrity Hunter - World Fishing] How ya all doin'? I hope you don't mind me taking some time to tell you all about my hobby... fishing. Of course, these are just my personal opinions. |
2 | If you have a Worm, Cricket, or Firefly, you can enjoy the leisurely hobby of fishing. These live baits can be purchased at the Armor Shop, or acquired in the field. |
3 | For standard bait, the kind of bait you have does not make a difference with regards to the fish you can catch. However, if you want to catch special fish, you should try and match the bait to a smell to attract the specific fish you are after. |
4 | Any if the fish you can catch are considered useful to a hunter. Sushifish are known to recover physical strength, Knife Mackerel can be used instead of ore as a material to make weapons, and there are many fish that can be used to make ammunition. |
5 | If you are trying to obtain high level ammunitions, I suggest you try combining materials with the fish you have caught. |
6 | Now I will present all of you who have read this far with some special information regarding some special fish. First up is the Goldenfish. As the name suggests, this a beautiful, shining fish. It is incredibly valuable, thus commanding a high price, especially from the Guild. This fish is all the rage among celebrities like me. |
7 | Although the Goldenfish is very rare, it lives in a wide variety of locations, so don't be surprised to find one right under your nose. For instance, in the Forest and Hills... find just one and you will have something worth more than the pennies I am being paid for this manuscript. It's like they think I have a ton of free time to write these things... |
8 | The next fish on our tour of the waters is the Speartuna. One look at this fish is enough to know it is special. There really is no comparison to its giant silhouette... If you happen to catch one of these fish, you can use that spear as material in crafting a weapon. |
9 | However, it is rumored that the Speartuna will only appear before hunters with true power. If you meet these requirements, you should certainly be able to spot one. |
10 | That is all for today's look at fishing, but if this column proves to be popular. you may well be hearing from me again soon. Farewell! |
Items 1
- The in-game title of the topic is "About Items 1"
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [BLACK DEVIL ITEMS COURSE -1-] I'm Black Devil of the fearsome Hell Brothers! Even crying babies stop their sniveling when they catch sight of a strong hunter like me! I'm going to be giving a lecture on items for the subscribers of 'Hunting Life'! Hahahaha! |
2 | To become a first-class hunter, you have to be a true master of using items. Now, let me show all those boys and girls who can't kill a wyvern a few items that can cause real carnage. |
3 | First are Pitfall Traps. They are excellent items to use when battling a wyvern. Set up a Pitfall Trap in the field, and lure a monster into it... then they won't have anywhere to go! Thus presenting a excellent opportunity to nail them! |
4 | Next up are Barrel Bombs. Large Barrel Bombs cause huge explosions when struck... A nice item I must say. You can physically hit them, strike them with melee weapons, shoot them with bowgun shots, or even throw a rock at them, but once it is hit, anything in the area, friend or foe, is going to go BOOM! That's why you use Small Barrel Bombs. |
5 | Small Barrel Bombs are set to explode on a timer. If you set up a Small Barrel Bomb near one of its larger cousins and run away as fast as you can, you can cause an enormous chain reaction explosion without getting caught in the bang! This is an especially important move for all you so called Blademasters. |
6 | If you set a Pitfall Trap, or a Large Barrel Bomb, the true problem is how to get the target into the trap. The best way with wyverns is to stop them with Flash Bombs or Sonic Bombs. You can also lure them in with Raw Meat. |
7 | By placing Raw Meat out in the field, it will attract wyverns with a taste for this dish. However, if you mix this meat with a Toadstool or Stunshroom, it will have poison or paralysis effects. |
8 | But it is also possible that you could be found before the meat. Wyverns are likely to spot you with their keen vision. Before that happens, you should use a Smoke Bomb. If you use a Smoke Bomb before they are aware of your presence, it will allow you to cover you tracks. Pretty stealthy, huh? |
9 | For me, instead of spending time with that trickery, I'd just concentrate on something else. For instance, I'd use some kind of BBQ Spit and make some steak, and eat it myself. Eating steak is known to restore you Stamina. Alright boys and girls... I think you can see that items have a wide variety of uses. |
10 | The one thing you have to remember about items is that the amount of items you can have in the field is fixed. You can have one Pitfall Trap, two Large Barrel Bombs, and up to three pieces of Raw Meat. Well, that's all for now. See all you boys and girls next time! |
Items 2

---|---|
1 | [BLACK DEVIL ITEMS COURSE -2-] Hello to all my 'Hunting Life' boys and girls! I'm Black Devil of the fearsome Hell Brothers! In this part of my items course, I am going to let you all know about support items... Hahaha! |
2 | First let's examine Power Juice and Mega Juice. By drinking these, you can prevent any Stamina loss. On quests where you must deliver an egg, drink one of these and run all the way back to camp non-stop. |
3 | These juices aren't just effective for egg carrying. If you are using Stamina draining weapons, like Hammers or Dual Blades, in tough battles against strong opponents, you should have some juice. Mega Juice can be made by combining Power Extract taken from a Gypceros with something else? What something else? I'll leave that for you to figure out! |
4 | Next up are Flutes. You have probably made them before, but had no idea about their effects. I guess I'll have to be the key to your knowledge! The truth is that by playing a Flute, you can capture a monster's attention. For instance, it's a great way to distract a monster when someone else is running off with an egg! |
5 | Not to mention there are many different kinds of Flutes. One is called the Health Flute. By playing it, you and everyone in the same zone will see a recovery in health. Antidote Flutes, Demon Flutes, and Armor Flutes can also spread their Power or Armor effects to anyone else within earshot. |
6 | Flutes aren't really items that you will use by yourself, but when fighting in a group, they are incredibly useful. Occasionally a defect will cause a Flute to break, but in reality these breaks are related to skill. What skill? That is for you to find out! |
7 | Some items that are useful when hunting alone are Powercharm and Armorcharm. Just by having one of these charms, your Attack or Defense may rise, and you may not have to worry about things like breakage or theft. You can also combine these with something and make the items even more effective! Combine with what you ask? That's for you to discover. |
8 | Let's see... what's next... Oh yeah! The Farcaster! It allows you to instantly return to camp. That's it. Finally, let's take a look at Psychoserum. By drinking this serum, it will temporarily allow you to sense the location of wyverns in the area. |
9 | That's it for items, but before I go, I want to share one more important point on the subject. There are some items you can pass off to other hunters, and some items that you cannot. Items with a rarity higher than 4 cannot be passed to other hunters. Don't forget that! |
10 | As you can see, in this world, helpful items are a dime a dozen. Learning how to master them is an integral part of being a first-class hunter. What!? You know how to use items but you don't know how to get them!? Hahahaha! That is for you to figure out!! |
Veggie Elder
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Veggie Elder eyewitness Reports] This story is a reporter's log of various encounters with men called Veggie Elders. Unfortunately, the date each entry was written, and who wrote it, has been lost to the sands of time. |
2 | Entry 1: Today I met the mysterious Man-Wyvern Elder in the Forest and Hills. Occasionally he wants an Insect Husk, so I traded him one for a Special mushroom. I wonder what that nice old man is using it for? |
3 | Entry 2: If you ask around in hunter's circles, that old man seems rather famous. No matter where you are, in the Forest and Hills, Swamp, or Jungle, if you take him items he loves, he is always happy to trade... Very, very interesting... |
4 | Entry 3: I want to see the Veggie Elder in the Forest and Hills. Last time, I traded him Iron Ore for Small Monster Bone, so I was expecting the same. However, this time he gave me a Mystery Bone. I guess he doesn't give you the same thing every time... |
5 | Entry 4: Today I ran into the Veggie Elder in the Swamp. It seems that he was a different person than the one in the Forest and Hills. We humans can't tell the difference in their outward appearance, but I knew he was different from the items he liked. I'd like to gather and study more data on this issue. |
6 | Entry 5: Trading Note. I traded with the Veggie Elder in the Swamp. I gave him a Vespoid Abdomen for a Lightcrystal. However, in talking with other hunters, apparently I got a raw deal. It seems that he has given others some amazing items... |
7 | Entry 6: I have finally discovered what the various Veggie Elders will trade. The forest Elder (apparently this what he is called) will give youmonster materials, while the Swamp Elder hands out Iron materials. I have never met the Veggie Elder in the Jungle, so I haven't the slightest clue as to what he trades. |
8 | Entry 7: Trading Note. Today I traded the Swamp Elder a Hornet Razorwing for Carbalite Ore. Last time I got Dragonite Ore, so I consider today a win in my book. |
9 | Entry 8: No matter how many times I try to test different trades, it is useless! I have no idea what items get treasure and what items get coal. I think it is entirely up to the whims of the Veggie Elders. |
10 | Entry 9: Trading Note. If you trade the Forest Elder a Firecell Stone, you will get either a Gravios Carapace or a Pale Khezu Steak. The Elder is rather moody, but when it comes down to his whims, I have a hunch that he is more generous than not... |
11 | Entry 10: I have finally confirmed some facts about the Veggie Elder in the Jungle. It seems he tends to give medicinal items. However, I wonder what this Elder's nickname is? Mystery Elder? Thicket Elder? Ahh! Jungle Elder. |
12 | Entry 11: It seems that the Guild has issued an item called the Veggie Elder Ticket. Rumor has it that this ticket is given to those who embark on Quests with their friends... If you give this to a Veggie Elder, you may be able to get an excellent item. This is very interesting indeed... |
13 | That is the final entry in the reporter's log chronicling the Veggie Elders. If any readers happen to have details to add to this story, please contact our editorial department. |
The Hero of Kokoto
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [About The Hero of Kokoto] *An excerpt from the forthcoming book 'Monster Hunter' by the Guild Master. |
2 | While there are many opinions on the man called the Hero of Kokoto. I have done my best to gather and present only the facts on the subject. |
3 | At the very least we cannot deny the fact that the Hero of Kokoto possessed an incredibly powerful sword. It is also said that he worked as a monster hunter, and that he had many accomplishments to his name. |
4 | The most eye-catching of these accomplishments is the story of the slaying of the Elder Wyvern of Mount Kokoto. Even if you consider it insignificant that the Hero of Kokoto takes his name from this mountain battle, it does not change the fact that the act of slaying this wyvern is more than enough to establish his position as a famed hunter. |
5 | As this is a story that is heard at least once by everyone on the path to becoming a hunter, obviously some points in the story have been dramatized more than necessary. For instance, the part of the story where victory was decided in the battle when the Hero tossed his sword directly into the head of the wyvern. |
6 | However, this part of the story actually being true is beyond comprehension. Moreover, the story tells of the rock-like shell of the wyvern, and the sword permanently embedded deep inside. One must conclude that this part of the story is absolutely idiotic. |
7 | It is also natural for stories to originate from facts. It is said that of the four hunters who set off with the Hero, one of them fell prey during the battle and was slaughtered. This hunter is famed to be the Hero's fiancée, a women even more radiant that the brightest of crystals. |
8 | It is said that at first he was hesitant to embark on this dangerous mission with her, but eventually she convinced him to take her along. It is said that she wanted this be her most triumphant battle before retirement. |
9 | After slaying this great wyvern, his reputation as a hunter skyrocketed. However, the loss of his fiancée gave birth to a jinx. It was henceforth said that any group of five hunters were bound to misfortune and disaster. |
10 | Now all hunters embark on Quests in groups of less than four, out of respect for the sacrifices made by the Hero of Kokoto, and with thoughts of safety for their fellow hunters in mind. It is said that the real Hero of Kokoto retired to a small and remote village, but firm details of this are scant. |
The Legend of the Black Dragon

1 | [The Legend of the Black Dragon] Hasn't there been a song stuck in your head? A song sung by children all across the land? A song with soul, sung diligently in the streets and in the alleys? What is that song? |
2 | 'The legend of death, death by a giant wyvern |
3 | However, I think the fact that everyone is singing this song is actually a sign. They say children are always first to foretell the changing of the world. They are said to have a special sense for these kinds of things. |
4 | I have gathered as much information as I could from the corners of this world, and I have told those who should be told. However, no one believes me. That is why I have begged for a few pages in Hunting Life explain the Legend to all who care to learn. |
5 | 'The Legend of the Black Dragon' is said to exist everywhere, and while there are changes in the lyrics depending on location, the content of the song is the same. So please understand that the lyrics printed below are representative of the song as I know it. The lyrics may be different where you are located. |
6 | The Legend of the Black Dragon |
7 | When the world is full of wyverns The legend is revived |
8 | He burns the earth and melts through iron |
9 | He is called Fatalis The wyvern of destiny |
10 | He is called Fatalis The wyvern of destiny |
About the Training School
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Off to the Training School!] A new Training School has been established east of Kokoto Village! Its goal is to increase the survival of novice hunters. Something to be thankful for, indeed. If only they had this when I was a beginner... (Editor's Note: Cut due to unintelligible verbosity) |
2 | ...and so since I am planning on drilling some discipline into some amateur hunters, I would like all of those reading this to make an appearance at my school! It's alright! I promise I won't be scary. |
3 | Now I would like to present the basics of the Training School. Since discipline is about avoiding selfishness, when you come to the Training School, you should feel like you want to stop the age old fight between Gravios and Diablos... well, maybe that is too hard... How about you just feel like "No matter what, I won't be surprised"! |
4 | At the Training School, we have several special rules that you must be aware of. For example, 1) Weapons and Armor are for Training Use Only. 2) Items Gathered in the Field are Different than Usual. 3) Items Carved from Monsters are Different than Usual. Since these Quests are different from the norm, you should come in with an open mind. |
5 | We do not randomly assign armor and weapons at the Training School. We examine a weapon's skills and attributes, and consider the type of battle it will be used in. We also use the strongest wyverns as training targets, the type of beasts that you can't challenge recklessly, but must employ skill and wits to slay! |
6 | There is one more point I'd like to cover. You can come directly to the Training School from Kokoto Village, but the skills that you may have acquired at the Felyne Kitchen, called Felyne Whim Skills, do not apply when at this school. Real training is about molding the real you. |
7 | ... hopefully I have you excited about coming here. If you want to learn more about the school, I suggest you come by and visit. I will see you all soon at the Training School! |
About the Guild Card
Page | Description |
---|---|
1 | [Explanation of the Guild Card] Let's take this opportunity to introduce the Guild Card carried by hunters. |
2 | [What is the Guild Card?] The Guild Card is your hunter's ID. Besides your name, it lists what Quests you have completed, what Treasures you have collected, and what monsters you have slayed. |
3 | You can do the following things with a Guild Card. [Examine] You can examine the Guild Card you have in your possession. You can also examine Guild Cards that you have obtained from other hunters. |
4 | [Edit] You can edit parts of your own Guild Card. For instance, you can change the Self-Introduction as well as the Title. Other information on the card will be updated according to your current status. |
5 | [Give] You can give other hunters your Guild Card for them to examine. You will not lose your Guild Card when giving it to other hunters. |
6 | Try giving your Guild Card to hunters you meet along the way, as it is considered a sign of friendship and respect. However, be aware that this can only be done in the Online Gathering Hall. |
7 | [Take] When you receive a Guild Card from another hunter, you are asked whether you wish to file this card away for future reference. Please take care of Guild Cards that seem important to you. That concludes the uses of the Guild Card. |
8 | Next, let's explain Friendship Level. Friendship Level describes your relationship with other hunters. A Friendship level is established when you exchange Guild Cards with a hunter, and is raised when you successfully complete Quests together. |
9 | Next, let's explain Awards. This section of the Guild Card shows the different awards you have earned from the Guild in recognition of your accomplishments. These awards are listed on your card, and can be checked any time you are in town. |
10 | Finally, let's explain Titles. Titles are a measure of how you are viewed around the world. |
11 | If you pile up achievements like completing numerous Quests, slaying giant wyverns, or obtaining many rare weapons, your fame will naturally expand. The Guild Card committee will take this into account and assign you a suitable title. |
12 | That completes our examination of the Guild Card. <<Editor's Note>> The Guild Manager really enjoys friendship, so if you keep raising your friendship level, something in return for your kindness. |
