Special Events[]
Events were held around the world in December 2013 for the release of the Premiere set of the game, May 2014 for the release of the Canterlot Nights set of the game, and later at conventions and select stores for official tournaments. At these events, each participant got a Participation promo card and top-winners of the tournament got a Winner promo card. Some cards have gold embossing stamped on the front showing which event they came from.

Local Game Store Tournaments[]
Your Local Game Store (LGS) may host weekly or monthly tournaments of various types (constructed decks which each player brings, sealed decks where you start from the same number of booster packs as others and the store keeps the decks between matches, drafting tournaments where you get a set number of booster packs to open and take one of and pass the rest around to build a smaller deck and compete with shorter game rules, etc). The store may order an Organized Play Kit from EnterPlay with special Promo cards to use as rewards for the top-placing winners from these tournaments (usually augmented by the store opening a few booster packs as well for the winners to choose from in-order), the cost of which is covered by the tournament entrance fees (usually around $4 for normal tournaments or $12 for draft tournaments).

Upgraded Organized Play Kit #1[]
Announced on Wednesday February 15, 2017, the first Upgrade Organized Play Kit went out in May 2017 to stores in US and Canada that hosted a Marks in Time pre-release event and a fixed number to international distributors supporting the game. Each store received at least 1 copy of this 8-player kit for free. Stores can also order additional kits directly from EnterPlay.
This new OP Kit contains 8 sleeves with 2 cards in them positioned face-to-face with a 3rd card between them - the intention is that each player receives a random sleeve at each event they attend. One card in each sleeve is Discord, Party Clasher (High Magic Pƒ10), Fluttershy, Flutterguy (Absolute Discord Pƒ4), and between them is a random card from a list of 12 cards. Some of these cards include limited-release or unreleased promo cards from previous expansions, including four of the Canterlot Nights Foil Mane Characters, f5 - f8 (which is why there are cards on both sides of the random card - so you can't tell from the outside if the middle card is a mane or not).
In addition, two copies of Dr. Hooves, All in Due Time (High Magic Pƒ11) are included as prize cards. The intention is that one winner receives a prize card, and the other prize card is given out at random at the event.

2015 Spirit of Giving Events[]
Announced on Friday October 2, 2015, Spirit of Giving Events are scheduled around real life and Equestrian holidays, focused on helping to feed the hungry. Enterplay encourages all stores to have the entry fee include a can of food to be given away to a local food bank or shelter. Each event will include a participation card for each player.
These events are free to retailers, so get your local game store to sign up and host them!
The Spirit of Giving event map shows 46 locations signed up (for 92 total events).
