ഭാരതത്തിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഉയർന്ന സിവിലിയൻ ബഹുമതിയാണ് പത്മ ഭൂഷൻ പ്രശസ്തിപത്രവും പതക്കവുമടങ്ങുന്ന ഈ പുരസ്കാരം രാഷ്ട്രപതിയാണ് സമ്മാനിക്കുന്നത്. ജനുവരി 2, 1954- ലാണ് ഈ പുരസ്കാരം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയത്.[ 1] ബഹുമതികളിൽ ഭാരതരത്നയ്ക്കു ശേഷവും പത്മഭൂഷണു മുൻപുമാണ് പത്മവിഭൂഷന്റെ സ്ഥാനം. ഡോ. സത്യേന്ദ്രനാഥ് ബോസ് ,ഡോ. സാക്കിർ ഹുസൈൻ , ബാലസാഹബ് ഗംഗാദർ ഖേർ , ദിഗ്മെ ദോറി വാങ്ചക് ,നന്ദലാൽ ബോസ് , വി.കെ. കൃഷ്ണമേനോൻ എന്നിവർക്കാണ് 1954-ൽ ഈ അവാർഡ് നൽകപ്പെട്ടത് [ 2]
