This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.A committee member provided the following comment: Eligible language. You are encouraged to contribute on incubator:Wp/ovd. --Millosh (talk) 03:44, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | ovd (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Elfdalian | Language name in English |
Language name | övdalsk | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
Language Wikidata item | Q254950 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | ovd.wikipedia.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | wikipedia | "Wikipedia" in your language |
Project namespace | wikipedia | usually the same as the project name |
Project talk namespace | wikipedia akudiringg | "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) |
Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
Default project timezone | Europe/Stockholm (GMT+1) | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Proposal
[edit]I think Elfdalian would a good edition to Wikipedia since it is an endangered language that needs preserving. It also has a unique writing system that could add flavour to Wikipedia. It would also be interesting to see how Elfdalian is related to Old Norse, Swedish, Norwegian etc. - --HorseSnack (talk)
Discussion
[edit]- There was Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Elfdalian. --Jura1 (talk) 17:16, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Jura1: The first request was rejected because in that year Elfdalian did not have an ISO 639-3 code, but now it has a code. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:56, 3 August 2016 (UT
- Note that Wikipedia gives the impression that the Latin alphabet is used for Elfdalian in modern times, not Runes. --Prosfilaes (talk) 22:23, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
- Martin Wiss I have been contacted by members of Språkförsvaret and http://www.ulumdalska.se/, to make preparations for work on the incubator version of the Elfdalian wiki, because of the new ISO 639-3 code: ovd. I see that you have already started the work here, great! We need to get started creating the user interface and the incubator wiki. I will contact native speakers from Ulum Dalska to get the work started. I suggest using the standardized latinized ortography, such as used in this dictionary: http://älvdalsk.ordbok.gratis
- There is more than one commonly used orthography. The one used in Älvdalsk ordbok is different to the one which Råðdjärum developed, which is different from the one used in the main grammar book. Lundgren8 (talk) 21:06, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
- Martin Wiss yes, there are at least three different ways to write with latin letters. I think we cannot decide, instead we will just have to wait and see which ortography will be used most.

Localisation update
[edit]- Currently none of the most used MediaWiki messages have been localised. Localisation of these messages is a requirement before the final decision about the request is made. This is the list of messages to be localised for the Elfdalian Wikipedia, so everyone who's able to speak this language/dialect is encouraged to translate them at TranslateWiki. Thanks, --Wolverène (talk) 06:21, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- Currently 10% of the most used MediaWiki messages have been localised. Reminding that here's the list of messages to be localised for the Elfdalian language. Thanks, --Wolverène (talk) 07:17, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
