Phlox' box for scissors, tweezers, and scalpels
Scissors were cutting implements designed to be operated by one hand. They consisted of two blades with a handle at each end joined together.
Doctor Phlox kept scissors, scalpels, and tweezers in a box in his sickbay. In 2151, he used the tweezers to place litmus paper on a slide. (ENT: "Civilization")
Scissors were used by barbers to cut hair. In 2369, Worf visited the USS Enterprise-D's barbershop to have his hair trimmed. Not long after Mot began, however, Worf became disturbed by the sight of Mot's scissors, and left immediately. When describing his odd reaction to Deanna Troi, she questioned whether he had dreamed about scissors, which he believed he might have.
He later learned that his reaction was due to an experience he had resulting from being abducted by Solanogen-based lifeforms and being experimented on for unknown purposes. He described a scissor-like tool as being part of his experience. (TNG: "Schisms")
