Pedal to the Paddle is a Bowser Jr. minigame in Mario Party 9.
Layout[]
The minigame takes place in a setting based on the airship levels in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. There is a very wide gap from the starting area to the end area, and a Paddle Platform attached to a light-gray rail extends between the two areas. For the entire minigame, Bowser Jr. is at a symmetrical area in the background.
Opening[]
The two characters and Bowser Jr. jump from their wooden platform onto a Paddle Platform, consisting of five platforms.
Gameplay[]
The object for the two characters is to reach the other side before Bowser Jr. by jumping on the platforms so that the Paddle Platform can move, specifically by jumping to the rightmost platform so that weight pushes the Paddle Platform toward the goal. At the bottom of the screen is a meter that shows the distance the characters and Bowser Jr. have traveled and how close they are to the end. If a character falls off their Paddle Platform, they return in a bubble a few seconds later, after which they free themselves from the bubble automatically. Whoever reaches the end first is the winner.
Ending[]
If the characters win, the captain ground pounds a switch. Bowser Jr. looks surprised, his entire Paddle Platform falls off, and Bowser Jr. screams as he falls. The two characters then perform their respective victory animations. If Bowser Jr. wins, he does a sinister laugh.
