Stages, levels, or locations with a mountain theme are areas that are located high in the mountains. It is one of the many reoccurring themes in the Mario franchise.
Other Traits and Features[]
One of the main features of mountain-themed stages is that, being set in a mountainous landscape, the area is usually very rocky and unstable. Sometimes, mountain-themed stages can take place high enough to also be considered sky-themed stages.
Flight based enemies such as Paratroopas are common in mountain-themed stages, as well as Bullet Bills and their cannons. Other common enemies include Monty Moles, Chain Chomps and Spikes. Bottomless pits are the main hazards in these stages, along with the occasional spikes.
