- Not to be confused with Cast Aways, a mini-game from Mario Party.
Castaway Bay is a Party Mode board that appears in Mario Party 6.
Layout[]
Castaway Bay is mainly a resort themed board. The only way to earn stars is to reach Donkey Kong's boat. In the day, the player stops at DK's Riverboat and Donkey Kong gives them a star for 20 coins. At night (every three turns), the boat switches to Bowser's Battle Yacht. If the player stops at Bowser's Battle Yacht, Bowser gives then a Ztar to take away one of their Stars (or 20 coins if they don't have one). There is also an area where a player can pay a Shy Guy to ride down the raft and take the shortcut to DK's boat. However, the player must be careful as, sometimes, Bowser will fire cannonballs from his Yacht, and the player loses coins if they get hit.
Happening Spaces[]
- Landing on some happening spaces will switch the positions of Donkey Kong's boat and Bowser's Battle Yacht. This can be good or bad depending on how close or far away the player is to that spot.
- Another happening space will start an Ukiki's game which involves collecting coins. Be careful as spiked balls tend to fall down and hit players.
DK/Bowser Spaces[]
As a special stipulation, no DK or Bowser Spaces occur on this board. And thus, DK and Bowser minigames can't occur. This is because in the day (and for three turns) the player uses the DK's Riverboat to get a star. And at night (for three turns), they avoid the Bowser's Battle Yacht.
Trivia[]
- Castaway Bay's gimmick is very similar to Mario's Rainbow Castle from Mario Party 1. Both boards involve getting the star at a fixed location and after getting the star, the star space switch with Bowser who either steals 20 coins or a star. The Green Spaces change the locations from day to night. If it changes to day, the Bowser's Battle Yacht switches to the DK Riverboat for three turns. If it changes to night, the DK's Riverboat switches to the Bowser's Battle Yacht for three turns.
- Additionally, this is the third and last board out of the three to use the same gimmick(s) as boards from the first three installments of the Mario Party series. The previous two boards --Towering Treetop and E. Gadd's Garage-- use the same gimmick(s) as Woody Woods and Luigi's Engine Room (from Mario Party 3 and 1). This board uses the same gimmick(s) as Mario's Rainbow Castle (from Mario Party 1).
- This is the only time where Donkey Kong can be seen in the day and Bowser can be seen at night.
- This is the second of the three boards (after Towering Treetop) where the player can land on Green Spaces to change the location from day to night for three turns. The third one after that is Clockwork Castle.
- This is the first of the two boards where no DK/Bowser Spaces occur (due to a special stipulation). The other board of the two is Clockwork Castle.
