Big Stars are a type of collectible star featured exclusively in the two-player mode Mario vs. Luigi in New Super Mario Bros..

Description[]

The objective for both player one, who controls Mario, and player two, who controls Luigi, is to collect a certain number of Big Stars, and whoever manages to collect the total number is ranked the winner. being In the game rules, before starting a game, the host player can decide whether collecting three, five, or ten Big Stars are required to win.

In the game, the HUD on the top screen of each player's system shows how many Big Stars Mario and Luigi have collected, respectively. Only one Big Star appears in the course at a time. Whenever a Big Star is collected, a small Big Star icon is added to the top screen's upper-left corner or upper-right corner for Mario or Luigi, respectively. The Touch Screen pinpoints the location of a Big Star on the progress bar.

If Mario attacks Luigi or vice versa, their opponent drops a Big Star, which proceeds to bounce around the course, in a similar manner to Silver Stars from Super Mario 64 DS. Mario can make Luigi drop a Big Star or vice versa by either jumping onto him, throwing a fireball at him while in their Fire form, or hitting him with the Shell Dash maneuver while in their Shell form. Other ways that Mario or Luigi can drop a Big Star is by taking damage from an enemy, falling down a pit, or getting crushed by a wall.
