I'm Doremi! Becoming a Witch Apprentice! is episode 1 of the first season of Ojamajo Doremi. It is also the 1st episode of the entire series originally aired on Feb 7, 1999.

Doremi appears to cast a spell showing a preview of clips from the series, during which she says "New TV Program I summon you! I'm Harukaze Doremi, I've just started learning magic. I'm still not very good... but thanks to it, every day is full of surprises. Everyone will cheer me on, right? I'll be the shining heroine in this ultra-hyper new TV Program: Ojamajo Doremi! Look forward to it! Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do...Arrre?"
Synopsis[]
Doremi Harukaze is a clumsy girl convinced she is very unlucky. More than anything, she wishes magic was real so that she could try to turn her luck around. Then one day she comes across a strange shop.
Summary[]
In the town of Misora, there lies an eerie magical goods shop, run by a mysterious woman with a cat. A young schoolgirl observes a set of charms made by the woman, who warns her that while her wish will be granted, it is unknown what may happen to her afterwards.
Meanwhile, at the Harukaze household, Doremi is preparing for school. Where she plans to confess to a boy she likes. She goes over the instructions in her magical incantations book and grabs her things in a hurry to avoid her annoying little sister, Pop, who exits her bedroom as she tiptoes through the hallway. It isn't like Doremi to get up early, so Pop is suspicious. Doremi gets flustered and Pop tells her not to bother confessing. Doremi is unable to make a good comeback before being startled by their feuding parents. She becomes aggravated as Haruka chews out Keisuke for trying to get out of his chores. Haruka leads him into another room and Doremi uses this moment to leave.
On her way to school, Doremi takes the time to introduce herself formally to the audience and hides upon arrival. She observes the handsome Igarashi-Senpai, as Maki -the girl who was at the magic shop- approaches him to speak. She asks that he make a promise with her to win the upcoming match, and if he does she will tell him a secret. Igarashi is confused but he agrees and they head off to class. He walks past Doremi, who is too anxious to say anything and is left feeling depressed over her failure to confess. In class, she looks through her book from earlier trying to determine what went wrong when her friend, Hazuki, attempts to discretely tell her that it is her turn to read the passage in their schoolbook. Doremi wasn't paying attention and she accidentally reads a section from her witch book- then pauses when it dons on her that it's not the right one. Kotake Tetsuya teases her and everyone else laughs. Doremi angrily bickers with Kotake and their Teacher sends both of them into the hallway.
After school, Hazuki asks Doremi if she will be attending soccer practice to watch Igarashi. Doremi sadly shakes her head and asks Hazuki to take her place. She gets up to leave but in her hurry, she accidentally put her opened backpack on upside-down, causing its contents to spill out from behind her. Kotake teases her again.
Doremi sadly makes her way home while wondering why she gets teased for believing in magic. She becomes distracted and realizes she is on an unfamiliar road, causing her to spot the Maho-Dou nearby. She decides to go in for a closer look and greets the shopkeeper, who strangely enough resembles the witch description from her book. Doremi makes a remark towards the woman, who becomes nervous. Doremi points at her while yelling ''Witch!'' and in a puff of smoke, the woman turns into a small, gooey green Witch Frog.
Doremi is shocked as the woman's cat transforms into a small fairy. Lala introduces herself and the witch frog as Majorika; who is now being punished for having been exposed. Doremi attempts to leave when Majorika stops her. Doremi will need to become an Apprentice Witch in order to restore her back to normal. Doremi is scared out of her mind until she processes this, realizing that this is a good thing for her because she likes witches and magic. She eagerly accepts and Majorika asks Lala to grab a box from the other room. They head outside and Majorika instructs Doremi to reach into the box to receive a tap. She tries to explain how they work, but Doremi is too excited to wait and starts pressing the buttons. Her dress appears and Majorika becomes exasperated when it vanishes. The user must put on their uniform before the music ends, otherwise it disappears. Doremi tries again and gets it on her second try, but then she impulsively uses her wand to summon a delicious steak. Before she can dig in it vanishes, leading Majorika to warn her not to waste magic spheres. As an Apprentice, her magic isn't very strong.
Majorika is beginning to have doubts while Lala refills her wand, and before she can say anything else Doremi rises into the air on her broom. She can't steer it, forcing Majorika to send Lala after her to help steady it. Doremi decides to head to school, as the soccer game is still going on. She can observe it from afar.
There, Hazuki wonders why Doremi hasn't shown up yet and she begins to worry seeing the ball head straight for Igarashi at an alarming speed. Doremi arrives in time to witness this and uses magic to stop time. After her crash-landing to the ground, Doremi hurriedly moves Igarashi aside to avoid being hurt. But as she leaves, she pauses recognizing the charm on Maki's neck. Time resumes and the girls exchange glances before Doremi hurriedly runs away and reunites with Lala. She reveals what she saw and they witness the rival team score a point, due to her interference. Lala lectures Doremi for not thinking clearly, then quickly brings up Forbidden Magic to make sure she doesn't try to do something reckless. She quickly realizes Doremi isn't paying attention when Igarashi gets hurt, too busy watching Maki worry over him. She wishes that she could help him and the charm she has on shatters, causing his injury to transfer to her. Doremi feels heavy remorse for what she caused, so she freezes time again to try to help their team score the point they should have got. Only for time to unfreeze again, and she gets beamed by the soccer ball. She falls unconscious as Majorika arrives in time to witness the display. With her magic, she causes Doremi to transform back to normal and takes off with Lala.
Doremi wakes up to find herself in the nurse's office. Hazuki is there and asks Doremi how she feels. Doremi assures her that she's fine and they overhear Maki and Igarashi nearby. They head outside to spy on them from the window and Doremi is heartbroken realizing they have feelings for each other. Igarashi requests that they start dating and Maki accepts. Doremi decides to let him go and laments that her feelings were unrequited, but seeing how happy they look cheers her up.
As this is going on, Lala and Majorika curiously observe her. Majorika isn't eager working with Doremi, complaining that she will be a pain to deal with, but Lala thinks things will be a lot more fun with her around.
Doremi compliments the new couple while she leaves with Hazuki, who asks if she is really okay giving up like this. Doremi begins to feel depressed again when it dons on her that she never had a chance with him to begin with. She starts to cry as the episode comes to an end.
