“ This world is rich in energon, and it will be ours. But before we can overthrow the Maximals of our homeworld, we must first deal with the ones who followed us and caused us to crash. We survived that crash... and until I see their corpses with my own eyes, it only makes sense to believe they did as well. We have enemies here, on this little planet. Enemies we will eliminate. A new war has come, my friends... and this time, it is ours to win. „
~ Megatron declaring the Beast Wars at the end of the first chapter

Megatron is the main antagonist of the 2021 comic series, Transformers: Beast Wars published by IDW Comics. Formerly an unknown Predacon named Galavar, in fear of history forgetting him as they did his idol who he named himself after, the original Megatron that led the Decepticons, and disillusioned with the Tripredacus Council's lack of initiative against the Golden Disk, Megatron has stolen the Golden Disk from the Maximals to decode and use it's secrets. Eventually, the crew of the Maximal science ship, the Axalon, intercepted him and in the confrontation, caused them both to travel back to ancient Earth and be stranded there. This leads to the titular conflict of the Beast Wars.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Is throughout nearly all his appearances a suave, theatrical, and elegant operator like he was in the original TV series.
  • Begins the series by announcing to the Tripredacus Council his plan for the impossible heist to steal the Golden Disk, then revealing he didn't take their permission and had already pulled such a daring feat as an audacious announcement to his former leaders that he is going rogue due to his disillusionment with their passiveness.
  • Has most of the ships capable of Transwarp travel destroyed, preventing any and all pursuit that the Maximals can do while he travels to ancient Earth. It only took the unexpected variable of the Maximal exploration ship, the Axalon being out of Cybertron to pose a problem and cause them both to be stranded on ancient Earth.
  • In a display of genre savvy, he has the Predacons scout out for all Maximal survivors as he knows if he could survive the crash onto Earth, there is a huge chance the Maximals did too.
  • He also is a major practitioner of pragmatic villainy. He withholds attacks to the Maximals until they are properly safeguarding their environment, and even reels in Terrorsaur's plans to just destroy left and right because he knows removing the wrong thing can cause a time paradox so big it will obliterate the universe.
  • When Dinobot turns on Megatron and uses his ship's lockdown protocol to entrap all the Predacons to save Nyx, Megatron wholeheartedly laughs in admiration of how brilliant Dinobot's trap was.
  • Launches an attack on the Axalon as a mere distraction to the Maximals while Tarantulas infiltrates and sabotage the ship.
    • When the plan mostly failed, Megatron lowers Dinobot's guard for Tarantulas to use a sneak attack on him and then give him a game-breaking injury that weakens the very formidable warrior.
  • Repeatedly keeps the treacherous ambitions of minions, such as Terrorsaur and Tarantulas in check, dropping many subtle hints to them that he knows something is up and he is keeping an eye out.
  • When the Maximals attack his base, Megatron uses many tactics to keep them on their toes, the most impressive one being using the forcefields to trap the Maximals. When Optimus Primal threatens to destroy the Golden Disk as leverage to be let go, Megatron makes it clear he is no longer underestimating the Maximals and makes it a priority to destroy them to even have a chance to succeed in his ambitions.
    • During the assault, he instantly deduces Dinobot's new weakness in combat when seeing him use only his right-hand and use it to his advantage to overwhelm him.
  • Using a potent variant of Energon, he lures the Maximals to a trap and then use a seeming bomb to be set off to inflict artificial aggression to the Maximals and have them attack each other.
  • When posed with the greater threat to the Vok, Megatron is actually willing to ally with Optimus to take them down, and then instantly deduces Tarantulas' decision to betray them all to the Vok.
  • Taking advantage of the Vok's defeat to nearly kill Primal, all it took was for an unspace beam to banish him 114 cycles to the future, which he uses to his advantage to continue scheming to win the Beast Wars now that his primary competition is gone.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • Is a terrorist who went rogue from Predacon command for his own ambitions to conquer Cybertron.
  • Steals the Golden Disk, killing many guards on the Maximal Science Ministry to get it.
  • Has Nyx subjected to brutal torture to know where the Maximals are and even puts the torture device to its maximum setting when she ended up pushing his berserk button of being forgotten, and when realizing why she is not answering questions, allows Tarantulas to dispose of her as she wishes. The lack of honor in such act prompts Dinobot to turn on Megatron.
  • Beats Dinobot to near death.
  • Makes repeated attempts to destroy the Maximals on Earth, the worst being attempting to use an extremely potent variant of Energon to artificially make all the Maximals aggressive to have them all attack each other.
  • Is a bad boss who would threaten his men for any slight opposition or incompetence.
