~ Dreadwing renouncing his allegiance to the Decepticons |
Dreadwing is a major antagonist in the second season of the 2010 animated series, Transformers: Prime. He is a Decepticon whose loyalty earns Megatron enough respect to become his new second-in-command after the betrayal of Airachnid and Starscream. He is also the brother of Skyquake and seeks revenge against the Autobots for slaying him.
He was voiced by the late Tony Todd.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Unlike most Decepticons in the series, Dreadwing is defined by a code of genuine affability and honor. No matter what, he'll always be willing to keep his word or make his gratitude towards people who save his life, even towards enemies, as shown when he spares Optimus Prime once. The reason he abandons the Decepticons is because he saw how dishonorable they truly were and left in disgust.
- In his debut, he uses Bulkhead as bait to lure Wheeljack and Optimus, planting an explosive on Bulkhead to bait them both into removing it to which he sets up the explosives around him, placing them on a trap that nearly kills them all. This made him the only villain in the entire series besides Megatron or Unicron to pose a credible threat to the fabled Optimus Prime himself.
- Unlike Breakdown, Dreadwing doesn't fall for Airachnid's provocative words, even trying to steer Breakdown away from foolishly attempting to attack her when trapped before setting himself free.
- His loyalty to Megatron was so genuine, even when Megatron ordered him to stand-down, he refuses out of genuine concern for his leader, and uses this to get the drop on the Autobots to secure Megatron's safety. This gave Megatron enough respect to promote Dreadwing to become his new lieutenant.
- Even when getting the drop on the Autobots when the have Megatron at their mercy, he was actually willing to let them go upon Megatron's release, adding more to his honor.
- Tracks down Optimus and Starscream to find the Apex Armor in the Arctic.
- When Starscream dons the armor to try kill him and Optimus, Dreadwing agrees to partner up with Optimus to set up a trap underneath Starscream's feet using his explosives to sink him to the depths of the ocean.
- When finding out Starscream desecrate his brother's corpse and turned him into a mindless zombie that can only wander across the Shadowzone and Megatron reintroduced him back to the Decepticons inspite of this, Dreadwing turns on the Decepticons and underneath everyone's noses, steals the Forge of Solus Prime and hands them over to the Autobots to give them an advantage, having been willing to give them the Omega Keys as well if the security wasn't too tight.
- Has Starscream completely dead to rights when confronting him and nearly succeeds in killing him and giving him karma for all the vile deeds he did.
