Doc is the overarching antagonist of the 2017 action/crime film Baby Driver.
He is a crime boss who is the mastermind a series of successful heists in the Atlanta area. He also coerces Baby to serve as getaway driver for his planned bank heists.
He was portrayed by Kevin Spacey.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He runs successfully bank heists with calculated plans and sophisticated strategies.
- He is a pretty affable and polite crime boss towards his crew. Always respecting them when getting the job done and giving them their cut.
- He cares about his getaway driver, Baby. While he blackmailed him, he still compliments him, gives him a take when finishing a bank heist, and saving him during his last moments.
- When explaining his plans, he is shown to be quite worldly and well thought of. An example of this was said by Baby when Doc asking him what he said his plan: “The target is armored truck at a location, the time that it will arrive, the detail of the route, the location bank within the seconds of getting out, the part of having a diversion crew and the distraction they will do to keep the police busy, the dress code and not to buy masks at the same time or else it will looks suspicious, the switch car ready for Baby to drive at a parking structure to get a heist vehicle as long as it blends into morning traffic, and time it needs to be ready.
- While killing JD and ordering Baby to dispose his body was cold hearted, the latter was quite incompetent and would’ve screwed things up for the crew more if he was alive.
- When taking Baby into a bank for a planned heist, he gives Baby to go inside the bank and take notes of the number of cameras, positions, registers open, employees, and customers, if there is an armed guard and they have bandit class, and that he should get a line and buys some stamps and to take his ear buds and shades off and to take his nephew Samm to makes things less suspicious. And it lead to a success with no consequences.
- While he refused to help Baby get to safety, when seeing Debora, he changed his mind and decided to help the two. Also because the two reminded of a woman he was once fell in love with, revealing a soft spot.
- He handles himself well in armed combat, having to take down three gangsters that attacked him, Baby, and Debora.
- In the end, he tries to hold Buddy off even though it resulted in his death.
What Makes Him A Baddie?[]
- He is the leader of his own criminal gang who orchestrated several bank robberies that led to countless people being threatened or killed.
- He blackmailed Baby into doing his work or else he would hurt or kill anyone he loves.
- While he had a perfectly good reason for doing this because of the latter’s incompetence, it was still pretty ruthless of him killing JD and having his body in the car crushed by a car crusher and had remorse of doing. This act had even made Baby anxious.
