Wikipedia:Discontinuation of comments subpages
This is an information page. It is not an encyclopedic article, nor one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines; rather, its purpose is to explain certain aspects of Wikipedia's norms, customs, technicalities, or practices. It may reflect differing levels of consensus and vetting. |
In 2016, the practice of using /Comments subpages to record assessment comments was formally abolished. The content of all such subpages was substituted onto the article's talk page, and the subpage was redirected to the talk page. In addition the functionality of WikiProject banner templates to display or link to these subpages was removed.
History
[edit]In October 2009, a discussion on the village pump, and continued here, found a consensus to phase out the use of subpages on articles for comments on the assessment of an article. This page describes the process that was followed to deprecate these pages.
Posting the comments on the article's talk page
[edit]The first step of the process was to substitute the contents of the /Comments subpage onto the article's talk page. The template {{substituted comment}} was used for this purpose. For example, the comments left at Talk:Forestry/Comments were posted to Talk:Forestry in the following way:
There are a lot of aspects that are missing and there are very few citations.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 17:27, 27 October 2007 (UTC) |
Substituted at 21:21, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
Redirecting the comments subpage
[edit]Secondly, the /Comments subpage was redirected to the article's talk page, citing WP:DCS in the edit summary, example.
