Wade Stinson (c. 1926 – March 2001) is a former American football halfback and athletic director for the Kansas Jayhawks.
Stinson suffered a serious injury in World War II, including the loss of one finger and mangling of three others.[2] After skin, nerve and tendon grafting, he enrolled at Kansas, played sparingly as a sophomore in 1948, and lettered as a second stringer in 1949.[3] As a senior in 1950, he ranked fifth nationally in rushing yards (1,129 yards) and eleventh in scoring (84 points).[4] His total of 1,129 yards was a Kansas school record until broken by Gale Sayers in 1963.[2]
Stinson returned to his alma mater as athletic director from 1964 to 1972.[2][5]
