Jainism
[edit]Thank you for your edits to Jainism and related articles. Seeing your contributions to Jainism, you may want to add your name as Jainism Project member. However, the section "Main Points in Jainism" seems to be Original Research and in violation of No Original Research Policy and may be deleted. However, all the best and happy editing.--Anish (talk) 10:47, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply.....I saw your main points and they are excellent and show clarity of thought. But Please reference each of these points as they may be deleted by someone who may come to clean up the article.--Anish (talk) 10:51, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
I am not sure whether that would be correct referencing. May be you can reference each point from the text that you picked up. While I have no disagreement with what you have written as I know it to be true, non-jains may dispute it for want of reference. Anyways please keep on contributing. The state of Jain articles is pathetic and we need more serious editors like you.--Anish (talk) 11:12, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Improvements in Jainism
[edit]Hi, Sorry for delay in responding. The problem is that there are practally no editors involved in articles on Jainism. The existing articles have no proper lead sections, no charts and diagrams, no tables, no proper pictures, and most of them have no references. I thnk we must try to improve on these things. Atleast try to have more A-class articles. Then there are Hindutva fanatics who are hell bent on subverting truth and proving that Jainism is an offshoot or part of Hinduism and that Mahavira is the founder of Jainism. Articles like Indian religions need to be watched for these things.--Anish (talk) 11:51, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi Suresh….Let me congratulate on your initiative on Triple gems of Jainism. This is one of the most important concept of Jainism. However it is better that the article should be of encyclopedic quality that can be graded and peer-reviewed maybe upto A-class or Featured Article class. I suggest you go through the following guidelines also –
For this particular Article I suggest following sections:
- Name – I think Ratnatraya would be a better name.
- Lead Section – Brief Summary on Ratnatraya
- Samyaktva – A brief note on Samyak or rationality. Samyakta should be also a main separate article.
- Samyak Darsana
- Meaning
- Pre-requisites
- Characteristics
- Samyak Jnana
- Meaning
- Pre-requisites
- Characteristics
- Samyak Caritra
- Meaning
- Pre-requisites
- Characteristics
- Gunasthana – A brief Description
- Comparison with Bhakti marg, Jnana Marg and Karma Marg of Hinduism
- Bibiliography
- References
I also suggest you use IAST spellings with diacritic marks. These are just my two cents for improvement of article.--Anish (talk) 12:06, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Just going thru this article once again.......it is in a list form and hence very unencyclopedic. Can you change it to prose format with references?--Anish (talk) 06:02, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Good work
[edit]You have been doing good work on Jainism. Now the article looks much better. I was just going thru Statistics of Jainism. Do we have a population break-up of different sects of Jainism?--Indian Chronicles (talk) 10:51, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Jain universe
[edit]You have changed the image that I had created and uploaded from File:Jain_universe.JPG to File:Jain Universe.jpg with directs wherein south is on top and north is on bottom. Ditto for east and west which are inmterchanged and opposite from the conventional understanding. Now the question is: on what basis you have you made the changes? Can you give me some reference to show that south is up and north is down. I have tried searching for the reference but could not obtain the same. --Indian Chronicles (talk) 07:13, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Bhavjale.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Bhavjale.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 10:05, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Bhavjale.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Bhavjale.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 15:58, 4 January 2011 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:58, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Namokar Mantra
[edit]- Arihant is not "enemy-killer"; that is a folk etymology. Arhant has a solid etymology as "worthy of worship".
- The article on the Namokar Mantra is not an appropriate place to add a very large contribution of materials not on the Namokar Mantra - a gigantic list of the characteristics and habits of the various parts of the sangham longer than the actual article itself is not correct. It's not about the sangham, but about the mantram. That's why I put in the wikilinks to sadhu in the first place.
- IAST romanisation standards recommend a macron on Sanksrit romanisation of o.
- Cited sources in Tamil need to be translated.
I'd love to hear your feedback. I appreciate another editor interested in the Jainadharma! Ogress smash! 15:30, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Arihant is indeed interpreted as "enemy-killer" in several Jain texts, although the etymology as "worthy of worship" is also right.Malaiya (talk) 18:37, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
Tamil Jains
[edit]Incidentally, I note that Tamil Jain article does not mention Tirukkural. Most scholars do consider that a Jain work. Malaiya (talk) 18:37, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thirukkural's moral principles are very much aligned with Jain Dharma and starts with opening kural refering to "aadi bagavan", a clear reference to first Jain thirthankara. It is a great moral book, smartly written in a concise manner - and very pleasing to see that every religious community in Tamilnadu wants to adopt and align themselves to it. Any reference that it is Jain literature will create emotive debate which I thought I will steer clear of. I am pleased that every Tamil speaking person wants to align themselves with the moral codes outlined in that great book. It is a pity that we do not have much of recorded evidence about its author and a lot of myth and interpretations created about him.

Tamil Jain Mathas
[edit]Hi Suresh, my name is Aayush and like you, I also have a deep interest in Jainism. I wanted to seek your help about 2 articles that I've been meaning to create. I wanted to create articles on the Thirumalai Jain Matha and the Sithamoor Jain Matha. However, I wasn't sure of what names to use. I'm confused with the following names- 1. Should it be Thirumalai Jain Matha or Arhanthagiri Jain Matha? 2. Should it be Mel Sithamoor Jain Matha or Sithamoor Jain Matha? It would be great if you could help me out here.--Aayush18 (talk) 07:15, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Hi Aayush, I have seen your edits in Jainism article. Keep up your good work.
My comments for your queries from what came to my mind are: 1. I will try to find out - however the term "Matha" does not sound right; do you mean Mutt (Tamil word MUDAM) 2. In Tamil, 'Mel' means Western side; Mel Sithamoor is West part of village Sithamoor. Again the term Matha may be incorrect. I will try to find out through my relatives in Tamilnadu the specific details you are after. Suresh Elangovan (talk) 09:13, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Hi Suresh, thank you for your efforts in finding out the details. I was referring to 'Matha' as in the following article- Matha. I believe the reason people have avoided 'Mutt' in that article is because 'Mutt' means something else in the English Language. In any case, the 2 Mutts (or Mathas) have been mentioned at Tamil_Jain#Religious_head and I just wanted to create articles about them and use the correct name (with the generally accepted spelling) as the title of the article.--Aayush18 (talk) 18:57, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for December 16
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Jainism, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tamil (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
