Oh, and I saw your edits to Centre College; what's you're connection to Centre? I have a friend who is a professor there. -- Essjay · Talk 18:35, July 19, 2005 (UTC)
- Well it's a small world! I attended Centre. I studied psychology and psychobiology; however, I enjoyed the lib arts and took several classes in phil., religion, government, and history. Chances are I know your friend if he/she were there when I attended!
For privacy reasons, I won't say which professor it is, but if you've been there in the last ten years, you definately would have run across my friend. Great to have you hear, but please remember to sign your posts on talk pages (including your own) by typing ~~~~. Good luck editing, and if you need anything, let me know. -- Essjay · Talk 15:37, July 21, 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advise on signing my talk page. Yes, I attended Centre in the last 10 yrs; therefore, I probably do not your friend. Small world indeed! -- Psy guy 17:26, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
PSI
[edit]Thank you for the PSI; since you didn't have an image for it, and I couldn't find one onsite, I created one. Check out my gallery to see how I listed it (it'll be a good tutorial for if you want to award it to someone else in the future.) I love getting thank yous from others, and this one was really original thank you so much! -- Essjay · Talk 05:18, August 3, 2005 (UTC)
Bipolar POV War
[edit]I saw your comments to Ascorbic with regard to the bipolar article. I particularly liked the line "a psycho-friendly person" and I want you to know that I'm:
- a psycho-friendly person
- a friendly psycho person
- friendly to psycho persons
Anyhow, I just thought I'd tell you how much I liked that, and that if you ever need a friendly psycho, come find me. (Or one of my fellow psychos.) -- Essjay · Talk 16:04, August 3, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your email! Here are the answers:
You can report it at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. The process is simple, just type {{vandal|USERNAME}} replacing "USERNAME" with the username or IP of the vandal. An admin will be along shortly to investigate.
Images are equally easy. Just type [[Image:Imagename.ext|thumb|150px|right|Caption], replacing "Imagename.ext" with the image name, "150px" with the size you want (trial and error via the preview button), "right" with either "right" or "left" depending on the side of the page you want the image on, and "Caption" with the caption for the image. You can also see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial.
If you need more help, let me know! -- Essjay · Talk 08:48, August 5, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it! Psy Guy 17:12, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]To any admin: I have uploaded an image of Catherine of Siena. I don't know that I have done it correctly. If it needs to be deleted, please tell me. I have contacted an admin to see if I have done this in an appropriate fashion. Psy Guy 17:45, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Unfortunately it was a copyvio; I've sent you an email about it. Also, I'll see if I can't find you another image of St. Catherine. -- Essjay · Talk 04:12, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
- I promised another image, but what I found was a whole page. Feel free to use any of the images at: commons:Category:Saint Catherine. -- Essjay · Talk 10:16, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
I like the image; I also added {{commons|Category:Saint Catherine}} to the article; by adding that tag, it adds a box with the link I left for you above. Have a look: Catherine of Siena. -- Essjay · Talk 18:28, August 14, 2005 (UTC)
St. Chad's
[edit]Another user, User:Friejose, left me some links to sites about the Cathedral, and I found the Archdiocese of Birmingham's site, which has a link to the Cathedral: http://birminghamdiocese.org.uk/cathedral/history/index.htm. I'm going to copyedit the article and give it that Wikipedia polish. Thanks for the heads up. -- Essjay · Talk 02:58, August 17, 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, here's an update: Saint Chad's Cathedral. Turns out, there was already an article on St. Chad's at St Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham which I have merged into the article. Also, since you're unfamiliar with St. Chad, check out Chad of Mercia. -- Essjay · Talk 08:15, August 17, 2005 (UTC)
Monasticism
[edit]Good evening. Currently, you are a member of the laity of the Catholic Church of Wikipedia. I, Cardinal Ryan the Reformed, ask if you would like to become a monk. You may respond at my talk page. God Bless! Cardinal Ryan 09:00, August 28, 2005 (UTC)
- Yum, bourbon candy. Actually, the only time I've had bourbon was while eating bread pudding (the recipe called for it). But, as we have some underage members, it would be best if we stuck with writing articles. Tipsy child monks, wouldn't the media just love that? Anyway, you have been officially promoted. Congratulations! Essjay will supply you with your itchy alb in a few days. And no, you don't have to be an admin to be a priest. Just there for symbolism. :) Acetic Acid 06:48, August 30, 2005 (UTC)

Talk Page Commmentary
[edit]I will treat serial vandals like the scum they are. You are under no obligation to read those talk pages.
Read the above paragraphs again. I said "you are under no obligation" to read them. Not that you're not allowed to. If you read something I wrote that offends you, too bad.
They can consider it vandalism all they want. It's not. That particular user had serially vandalized an article. He was called what he is.

[edit]My pleasure. Thanks for trying to help. He seems like he's just playing with the wiki programming...so why doesn't he know what the sandbox is? Sigh... - Lucky 6.9 06:05, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for catching that page blank. Our friend Syko just earned a 24-hour wikivacation. Signing off for now, but I'll catch you later. TTFN! - Lucky 6.9 06:19, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
OMG, is that ever a hoot! That's almost enough to get me going back to Mass on a regular basis. Hallowed be our Wiki! Oh, Lord, my face hurts from smiling. Thanks for watching my back. The guy left a nice apology on the talk page, so being the softee I am, I unblocked him with the caveat that he doesn't mess around on the article space. We shall see, O Disciple. :) - Lucky 6.9 06:28, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
Anonymous User
[edit]Hey, I'm not sure if this will get through to Psy Guy, but hopefully it will. You sent me a message that I was committing vandalism and that you wanted me to stop. I don't know how much you can see of what was happening, but you have it wrong. I wanted to see who someone was, and I followed a link into Wikipedia. The article about the guy had racist comments on the page, so I clicked on edit and erased them. When I was reading about the guy, I hit refresh, and the comments were back. Someone was adding them, and I was erasing them. I am the good guy, not the bad guy. Sorry if this isn't the right way to send a message to you, but I don't really know how to use wiki, and the few times I've been on the site, someone always jumps on me whenever I try to help in any way.
- I hope you will check this page to see my reply. I just checked out the contributions to article in question. Since there is less than one minute between the out contributions, I bet that you got you edit in first then mine came through. When I went to leave the vandalism notice I just clicked on the User IP address that was before me which was you and not the vandal. I am really sorry about that. I should have been more careful. Usually the software will prevent two people from making a edit at the same time so that things like this will not happen. Sometimes the edits still get through. Once again, I am really sorry. I am going to go to wiki-church and pray to Jimbo for forgiveness of my wiki-sins. :-) Also, you may want to register to the site if you enjoy RC Patrol. Edits from anons are looked at with some skepticism. Hope to see you around the site again. If you register, let me know! Psy guy (talk) 15:25, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit]I would shy away from the POV tag as it is actually reserved for articles which do not represnt a neutral point of view, unless this is the case. Instead I would recommend listing the page on the vandalism in progress page. That lets other editors and administrators know that the page is undergoing vandalism and they will watch it more closely. In cases of very frequent/persistent vandalism, you may want to request that the page be temporarily protected from editing until the vandals go away.
According to a study by IBM, they found that most vandalism on Wikipedia is reverted within 5 minutes, so most users won't see the vandalism anyway. Hope I could be of some help. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 21:43, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

Facticious disorder
[edit]You moved factitious disorder to Factitious Disorder. In general, diseases and disorders are only capitalised if their name is an eponym (Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome). I hope you don't mind I moved it back. JFW | T@lk 17:37, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

It's particularly nice to read that you must have taken a look through my contribs and concluded they were good: people research RfA candidates is what the process should be about. - Thanks for reporting Fuck V. Molitov at WP:AIV, but remember to type {{vandal|USERNAME}} below the line, because if you put it in the example (where you listed it) it doesn't show up on the page. Basically, that is an example only visible to people who click "edit". By typing it below the line (where you typed your description, which was right) then it adds useful links for admins. It was an easy mistake to make, just want to make sure you catch it for next time. Let me know if you have questions. -- Essjay · Talk 03:08, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Re:With Respect
[edit]I fully respect your decision to leave English Wikipedia. You will be missed around here. Unfortunately, it seems to be the nature of an RC Patroller to be vandalized. It only means that you must be doing something right! I hope that I can one day be hated by vandals. I have only been vandalized once, and I try to wear it like a badge of honor. - I think it looks good as well. In the future, you may want to consider proposing template creation on Wikipedia talk:Template messages first and create it as a user subpage, but for this specific one, it would probably have been better to propose it on one of the Test talk pages. They are watched by quite a few users and you would have fairly quick feedback. This way you avoid it being thrown up on WP:TFD and you can get immediate input before you create it in template space. I have created quite a few templates, some of which I should have proposed first :) ∞Who?¿? 07:15, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Nice template idea!
[edit]I think a more friendly test template is quite a good idea - I like it very much. I think it can still be made more welcoming though, but I suppose too many embellishments might reduce its effectiveness. Perhaps some more rewording is in order? At this point, I wouldn't worry too much about the formalities of "properly" developing templates. Let the Magic of the Wiki take over, and see what happens next! I see on the template talk page that some of this is already happening. :) --HappyCamper 03:45, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
Re: User page vandalism
[edit]Thanks for taking care of my user page! To tell the truth, I'd rather vandals take out their frustration on my user page and leave articles alone. If it happens again, you don't have to tell me; in general you can assume you have permission to revert vandalism to people's user page (and I have my page on my watchlist, as do most people I believe). Again, thanks, and I appreciate your vigilance! — Knowledge Seeker দ 08:10, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

Wordforge
[edit]You removed Wordforge (again!!) due to copywrite policy apparently. How did I infringe on the policy? Please bear in mind: a) I am the owner and administrator of the site and b) My site was recently voted for deletion, much to my annoyance, without a reason given as to why. I was rebuilding the wiki with the intention of it being far less copied finish as it was before deletion. Ideally I'd like a revert to before deletion.
Please get back to me about this Borgs8472 15:17, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
- Psy guy did not remove the page; page deletion requires administrator privs. The page was deleted most recently by Doc glasgow as reposting of AFD'd content. Please realize that once content has been AFD'd and consensus determines that it should be deleted, if you repost it, it is automatically a candidate for deletion on sight by any administrator. If you persist in reposting the content, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. -- Essjay · Talk 15:57, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit]How can I get ordained to be a Wikipriest?Tan DX 09:49, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- To be ordained, you must consult with a bishop or the wiki-pope. I am only a deacon and a monk; therefore, I cannot ordain. You can express your interest on the talk page for WP:CCW. If I can help with anything else, just let me know. Psy guy (talk) 21:27, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Evolution
[edit]Well, what do you need to know? Evolution has been disproven for well over 100 years. Because it is still considered by some to be fact makes it a religion rather than a disproven theory. There is no evidence for evolution. The only way to prove I am right is to have people provide evidence for it, and others to strike it down. That's what science is.
And could you please provide a link to the discussion page for it? -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.128.34.83 (talk • contribs) 11:39, 27 October 2005
- Darwin's theory of natural selection is based on five facts:
- Fact: Populations have the potential to increase exponentially.
- Fact: Many populations are at an equilibrium size.
- Fact: Resources are limited.
- From these facts, Darwin inferred that there was struggle among individual. When this inference is taken in light of two other facts:
- Fact: Individuals are unique.
- Fact: Individual variations are often heritable.
- Inference: Differenital survival or reproduction (natural selection).
- From this last inference, Darwin extrapolated that if natural selection continues over several generations, evolution of a species will occur. It is important to remember that individuals do not evolve, populations do.
- One of the most noted examples of natural selection is the beak of a bird. In habitats where nuts are the most plentiful source of food, survival is in favor of individuals with strong beaks. If those with strong beaks are more likely to survive, then they are more likely to pass on their genes to posterity. With genes for strong beaks increaseing in the gene pool and nature selecting against weaker beaks, the population is likely to have much stronger beaks after several generation. This is because strong beak genes are more likey to be passed on. Thus change over time - or evolution - may occur with this particular population of birds.
- There are many other theories that also attempt to explain the phenomenon: Intelligent design, Creationism, and Lamarckianism. All are simply theories. There are few (if any) true biological laws. vandal comment to me

A Little Late, Shmuck...
[edit]Why'd you just add the last warning now? I got the message a few days ago, and I'm sorry--I didn't think people'd be that harsh over a few liberal edits. No harm intended. I don't ever try to do anything wrong (that is, when I'm editing Wikipedia, not in real life). Sorry, the warden says my computer time is up, so
--Good day, sir, apologies insincere, WAS 01:30, 7 November 2005 (UTC).
P.S.--You really have to do something with your life; I looked around your userpage, and--a monastic deacon in the Catholic Church of Wikipedia?! Catholic Church of Wikipedia?! WoW, you have some things to work out! Good luck, maybe you could even, one day, rise to the rank of ARCHdeacon, keyn eynhore (sorry, I forgot, you only speak English, Jolz)! Gutentag, goyishe kup!
- I take it you are referencing this version of George W. Bush (and a few after this one). Other users and I saw this as more than "liberal edits." Also, the "last warning" that you are refering to is unsigned comment from User:Arniep on 13:25, 6 November 2005 (UTC). I left you a test2 message following User:Nlu's message on 22:39, 2 November 2005 (UTC). This is all according to your talk page history. If you are still curious about my message and would like to discuss it in a civilized manner, I would be more than willing to do so. -- Psy guy (talk) 02:52, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- A real apology: Sorry I overdid it. I got a bit caught up; I just try to enjoy myself, and didn't realize you guys would take it that hard. I just try to do harmless little jokes here and there, make the world a more interesting place, that's all. I guess I should ask the doctors to up the prescription again; I'd be really sorry if I were telling you in person...
Anyway...
Ahem. Well, good job; keep up the work. Excuse me, I have a little visit to pay to Mr. Arinep...
P.P.S.--Just so you know, the 'civilized' way is just throwing down a handkercheif, as opposed to breaking the end of a bottle off on a counter. Or at least, that's the 'civilized' I was thinking of.
- Quite alright. Apology accepted. There is nothing wrong with a little fun. I can appreciate that. Also, just out of curiosity, what does the Yiddish mean? -- Psy guy (talk) 04:14, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- The last warning I placed on User:WAS's page was in reference to placing personal opinion on article talk pages which I notice he has been warned about previously, the edit in question: [1]. Regards Arniep 11:57, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
