An Invitation
[edit]Hello DDD DDD,
Here's an invitation to visit Wikipedia:Japan-related topics notice board. There, you can meet other Wikipedians working on articles related to Japan. You'll find lists of new articles, projects, and resources such as
- Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles).
- Template:Newest Japan-related articles
- Portal:Japan
Hope to see you there!
Best regards,
Thanks
[edit]Hi, DDD DDD,
Thanks for creating Language attrition. The article looks excellent, although I haven't taken a really close look. It's great to have another gap filled in our coverage of applied linguistics. -- Visviva 06:20, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Fabby pics
[edit]What a great set of pics of the Okavango! Could I upload them to Wikipedia Commons? That way they can be used by all the different language Wikipedias, not just en.wiki. In particular, they'd be a much-needed addition to Category:Okavango Delta. Cheers, JackyR 13:03, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Just go to Wikipedia Commons and Upload, as on Wikipedia. Though if you've got lots of gorgeous stuff, you'll probably want to create a username there (most people use the same as on Wikipedia). If you want any help categorising, just give me a shout: the folk at Village Pump on Commons are also really nice. JackyR 13:24, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
OK, I've uploaded to Commons:
- Image:Okavango_River_Sign.jpg
- Image:Gathering food in the Okavango.jpg
- Image:Mokoro Polers waiting for hippos.jpg
As you can see, I have to annotate the pics as being yours and licensed by you, but uploaded by me. If you upload your own pics, you can just do it completely fresh, as tho they have never been on en.wiki. Much simpler!
Btw, do you happen to remember which countries these pics were taken in? I've tagged the pic of the girl as "People of Botswana", but of course she might be in Namibia! JackyR 20:00, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- JackyR. Thank you. Yeah, they were definitely taken in Botswana. We were using the Poler's Trust guides. We spent 3 nights with them in the delta. What a wonderful time! I still cannot believe how lucky we were to be there...
How to...
[edit]Ah, no, it works the other way round. You start at Wikipedia Commons, and upload pics there. You can hit "Upload file" from anywhere on Commons, and it will offer to create a new File page, into which your pic goes. Once the File exists at Commons, you go back to en.wiki (or fr.wiki or wiktionary or...) and call the pic in the normal way, eg [[Image:Mopane worm on mopane tree.jpg|thumb|240px|right|Mopane worm on mopane tree, Botswana.]] Which gives ->
Also, when you hit "Upload" at Commons, you get a page of guidance, with links to further guide pages. So it's a lot less scary than it sounds! JackyR 15:26, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Second Language
[edit]Just a few lines to let you know I appreciated your input on the Second language article. I was planning to write something similar about the way it is acquired and the criteria of success, but I kept putting it off. Anyway, you seem to have done a much better job than I would have done, so "Good Work!" TheArchon 06:58, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Acadia
[edit]Hi, I just uploaded the file as Image:300px-Acadie 1757.gif. I didn't insert it in the article though, because I am not yet all that confident with my skills in manipulating images. I hope it helps. TheArchon 10:53, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. Good luck with the article. TheArchon 12:26, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for being positive, man!
[edit]Hey. I've been nervous about these changes I've been making on the Racial/Ethnic statistics. I think they're the "least bad" available, but still... Anyway, you taking the effort to send out a bit of praise on my talk page made me a whole lot more comfortable. Thanks for taking the time to give out good vibes! Saint John Page
[edit]Hey, look man sorry about jumping down your throat like that. It didn't even cross my mind that you were also only trying to embetter wikipedia as well, that's my fault, I was probably more of an ass then you were, it was pretty early morning when I made that comment haha. Anyways, I added another comment to the talk page, just talking about how we could compromise and fix up the Saint John page, if you want to read it. Anyways, happy editing. - Do as you wish with the pictures, I just put some up from my recent trip to Canada and wasnt aware of ongoing discussion. ~Rangeley (talk) 03:17, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Locator dots
[edit]Unfortunately, I've never done any work with locator dots. I took a glance at the links you gave, though, and the dots seem to line up fine... maybe it's your browser, or maybe the problem got fixed? --Golbez 11:00, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Brandt
[edit]I'm pleased to hear that my posting voiced your concerns along with mine - It is my opinion that some if not all of the points I raised in my posting on the talk page of article Daniel Brandt reflected the views of a growing number of Wikipedians who have become concerned with the recent state of the administration. The main problem with this issue has been gaining awareness of the ways in which we, as Wikipedians, can best put a stop to it - being an "activist" and taking a "stand" against the admins simply doesn't work, and in most cases it even has a negative outcome.
The best thing to do seems to me to be resolving the issue diplomatically and mutually, using mediation techniques in a neutral discussion environment, where the rights of the admins are respected. I support the notion that spiting Daniel Brandt is a waste of time and energy that could possibly lead to serious legal action being taken against Wikipedia. I want to make it perfectly clear that to the admins that I've no interest in the cause of Daniel Brandt - more the cause of Wikipedia. I'd hate to see it shut down or be put in jeopardy as a result of such a foolish act by a number of people who are supposed to be setting an example.--Badharlick 14:29, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Regarding your comment on my talk page.
[edit]As to the claim that Brandt called and harrassed another user- that information is second hand and I have no problem admitting I may have either heard wrong and/or am misrembering the facts (and in any case the fact that Brandt harrassed/threatened a user into the point of leaving is indisputable even by Brandt's rendition). I have no reason to "cover my backside" even if nothing with that user had occured Brandt would still be an indef blocked user who had exhausted the community patience by his repeated disruption and attempts to out various Wikipedians. That's all that is really relevant. JoshuaZ 04:43, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Crazy Coincidence re Saint John Pictures
[edit]Hi there,
I was in Saint John on July 10th and took some pictures, please see my user page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Magu2k I took two pictures that are almost perfectly identical to your two except it was foggy when I was tehre and you were further up the street on Princess St, and for Trinity it looks like your shot is a bit wider. Magu 22:03, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. I just thought Île Lamèque was rather awkward, as it should have been with the 'de'. Good job with the New Brunswick articles =D - SpLoT / (talk) 09:13, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't insert my own opinions into articles. Never have, and didn't start with that one. One doesn't generally get to be an administrator on here if one doesn't know how to keep their own views out of their edits. Bearcat 11:01, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Gambari.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Gambari.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your work on Smash. Unfortunately, disambiguation pages do not follow the same stylistic rules as normal pages. In particular,
- there should be only one live link per entry.
Please see the disambiguation style guide for more information. If you have any questions not answered there, drop me a note or try the help desk. By the way, I have already brought Smash into line with the guidelines. Fourohfour 16:04, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called DDD DDD. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name DDD DDD~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
