Prose
[edit]- Recommend opening § Early life with his full name as it is his first mention in the body.
- "Brosnahan lived and began his education, briefly attending two private schools" sounds a bit 'rushed'/out of place for me. Is it perhaps possible to incorporate the Brosnahan surviving line into the previous sentence and clarifying when (if known) he briefly attended two private schools?
- I've reworded for a smoother transition. I cannot determine when he attended those schools. Ergo Sum 21:38, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- "He transferred to Gonzaga College in 1869" – wikilink Gonzaga College.
- Do the sources say why his application was denied?
- They do not. Ergo Sum 21:28, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- "Afterwards" – do we know when he left Woodstock College?
- The sources do not say, but from my background knowledge, I infer that it was part of the normal course of Jesuit formation. Ergo Sum 21:28, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- "At the time, he was the first" – "at the time" is not really necessary here.
- Removed. Ergo Sum 21:29, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- "He introduced coverage of modern subjects" open with "Brosnahan introduced" to avoid a repetition of he with the previous and next sentences. Also:
- Can some context perhaps be given on these so-called modern subjects?
- The source does not go into detail but I have reworded from "modern" to "contemporary" for clarity. Ergo Sum 21:39, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- "and was ordained a priest in 1887" – should be "that same year" as 1887 was just mentioned.
- "Georgetown organized" – comma after Georgetown.
- "the number of students enrolled increased to 450" – from?
- I added the closest reference point I could find. Ergo Sum 21:36, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Can we have translation for Adversaria ethica in ordinem redacta?
- I've added a translation in the reference to this book in the Further reading section, but as I cannot find any authoritative translation of the title (that is, not my own), I have avoided adding one to the body of the article. Ergo Sum 21:42, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- That is fair! ツ LunaEatsTuna (💬)— 16:47, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

- "article by the Charles William Eliot" –
no way, the Charles William Eliot?!remove the. - Should it not be "remaining there for more than one month"? Apologies if this is only a British English thing (which I write in).
- It does not seem to be an AmEng vs. BrEng question to me, but for sake of clarity, I have heeded your suggestion. Ergo Sum 21:37, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Refs
[edit]- Woodstock Letters 1897 and 1916 and Devitt 1935 appear to all be dead URLs.
- I have replaced the dead links with new ones. Ergo Sum 15:10, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
Passes spotcheck on refs 10, 11, 14, 18, 21 and 30.
