Allies and foes

[edit]

How can they be allies to the Mexican Mafia and enemies of MS-13, when MS-13 is nowadays allied to eMe? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.55.55.37 (talk) 20:29, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In LA gangs fight eachother but in jail they unite under Surenos. 18ST and MS13 are very big rivals in the streets.

Largest gang

[edit]

This is only hearsay. But I can say that I never heard of MS13 when I was growing up in the 70's. But... 18 Has been around longer than that. We we were not sitting idle before than. We are world wide. Not just in El Salvadore or in the Latin American countries. But in the whole world. If such quotes are being given let's give some reliable sources here and where we can find them. Cause all sources are unreliable unless we can prove the source. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tiny18 (talkcontribs) 05:32, 22 November 2006.

I’m going to go ahead and remove the “largest gang in the U.S.” claim (although doubtless someone will try + reinstate it). The L.A. Times article referenced has the headline “Southern California’s Largest Gang,” but that’s ten years old, anyway. Being Socal’s doesn’t make it the whole U.S.’s biggest—the thing that actually reminded me to edit this article was seeing some new 18th Street graffiti (I think—I was in a moving vehicle) but for the most part, I haven’t heard anything about 18th Street other than their wars in Central America for quite sometime. They certainly don’t seem as widespread as 13 nationwide. —Wiki Wikardo 00:56, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The big 18 has been around for a long time and as people know we don't get along with no one but the 18. We still are known to be causing the enemigas get shook just by hearing 18. To rebutle against wiki wikardo in his statement you hear 18 street in the news and the papers as you hear of soldados putting in work. All i got to say is that we are the largest gang in the world we go world wide. I dont hear of any gang doing that so it will remain like that until they knock us down which in this case its impossible. "Im down for the 13 but live for the xv3" stated by Wreck from that big 18 defboy clica. the 18 street gang is the first and only gang to successfully create a world wide 18 street. To all the homie's throw them E's in the air and fuck the enemigas. By Sinner from SSXV3ST in cudahy califas.

Just to let you all know if you writer that giving the wrong information about my neighborhood want to get it right ill tell you and teach you dummies a little history on south side Eighteen Street well us Southerner's we didn't start in Southgate as I was saying before it originated in Maywood . Work itself in Bell and in Cudahy now to tell you the truth in this day in age were scattered all over. There still some notorious one's and will probably always be but were have to criteria street wise and business wise so unless you been there you aint one to talk what you dont know we all busted slapped back we pay the price for what we've done but who doesn't life goes on we stay up like a 18 would don't break us down cause there another one right behind us stay up its a homie thing on the southside its a family outside our blood family but then again everyone sheds blood. all my Southsider's especially the Tiny Diablas & Tiny Diablos let them know what time it is let everyone know that yall get you down. Ms. Gumby SSXV111ST Much love Respect

These Wikipedia articles about LA gang history are useless without reference to Ronald Reagan's supporting of American-trained (at Fort Benning) right wing Salvadorean dictator Daubuisson in that country's civil war and then hunting down people who fled the death squads and sought sanctuary in the USA. Survival in clandestinity got those people involved with LA gangs, where they learned their "trade" and then exported it to El Salvador and elsewhere when they could return to their country. Now we have another president blocking sanctuary from the conflicts we caused by the invasion of Iraq and the metastases that resulted.

== The Original 18 Street Gang ==

I grew up on the west side of L.A. during the 60's. That's not to be confused with west Los Angeles. L.A's central corridor had the east side & west side on each side of downtown. The original 18th street was a west side gang & divided into Big 18 & Little 18. I'm much more familiar with Lil 18th because of my age was the same age of those vatos. I went to grade school with "Santo" (Manuel Huerta) the leader of Lil 18th & was in the boy scouts with the co-leader "Satch" (Albert Agrande). I was confirmed with the Uliberry brothers; Tony called "Tank" was the sargent of arms for Lil 18th & later took over from Santo as leader. His brother was called Sailor, I can't remember his first name. They used to come to the teen post in the basement of St. Thomas grammer school on west 15th street & Mariposa street, where I knew them all. Lil 18th also had social workers from Vista who helped them get jackets & arranged for them to meet in the basement of a church on 9th & Westmorland. Lil 18th was a very cool gang, they had style.

Big 18th met at Toberman playground, a couple of blocks north of Washington Blvd., near Hoover Street and hung out at Lucy's taco stand on Hoover & Washington. 18th street & Clanton were always fighting. I can remember seeing 50 or so vatos from 18th street walking to a showdown with Clanton & remember them waiting on the field of Loyola High School on west 15th street for Clanton to show up. Big 18 were some serious dudes and they eventually wiped out Clanton. They had a hit squad called the "Exterminators" that did the serious shooting. Mike Marufo the leader of Clanton was shot point blank while on the loading dock at work. The Crazy Cuate another C-14 member was shot on Whittier Blvd. Once Mike Marufo was blown away Clanton basically fell apart and disappeared. 18th street continued to grow & appear to be not only a national but international gang now. I remember once seeing a episode of Kojack filmed in NYC & saw 18th street grafitti on a wall in the background. I never had a single problem with 18th street & that is saying a lot cause I'm a white dude that grew up in the hood. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.8.213.138 (talk) 07:00, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I changed "west Los Angeles" and "westside" to "central" because Rampart division (it's a division of the LAPD, not a city district) is in central L.A., not West L.A. or the Westside. West Los Angeles is a neighborhood in the Westside region, which runs from Beverly Hills to the ocean - West L.A. is between the 405 and Santa Monica. Rampart Division includes Echo Park, Pico-Union and Westlake, close to Downtown. The dividing line between east and west is Main Street. I don't know where the gang was formed, just that Rampart is not in the west area of L.A., though it is west of Main Street. Wlegro (talk) 16:30, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Rampart district isn't itself a neighborhood, it's really a series of neighborhoods under the Rampart umbrella and it's used by more than the LAPD. Cities when they are originally settled tend to have a *main* street that is the dividing line of the city. Los Angles was a lot different 50 years ago than it is today. Even government studies, including the LA District Attorny's office, makes reference to the Rampart district when talking about 18th streets origins. Thus, I'm reverting your changes. Removed "Terrorism in the United States" category

[edit]

Per this State Department report, as of 2007 there were no known links between the 18th Street gang and terrorists. To avoid overcategorizing, I've removed Category:Terrorism in the United States from this article. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 06:10, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can the Colors of 18 Street Gang Members be different or change?

[edit]

Speaking from Albuquerque, New Mexico; but did the World Walk; According to different sides of town as in General here; West is Black, North is Red, East is White, South is Blue And what if the colors are mixed for All Town, City, State, Country, & the World depending on where the individual's placement is or where they are from that they represent? And if they've done the walk of the world & what is their passing point(s)? For example: USA (The Red, White, & Blue) with Black Lining; Mixed Colors = Purple & Grey Mexico & Italy (The Red, White, & Green) with Black Lining; Mixed Colors = Brown & Grey USA + Mexico and/or Italy = Maroon & Charcoal So the World Mix of Colors; What Colors = the Mixed Colors?
