Nandini Shankar is an Indian violinist who performs Hindustani classical music and fusion. She is the daughter of Sangeeta Shankar[1] and granddaughter of N. Rajam.[2]
Early life
[edit]Shankar started her training when she was 3 years old and gave her first public performance at 8. She gave her first full-fledged solo performance at the age of 13 years.[3] She plays violin in the Gayaki Ang.
Personal life
[edit]Nandini Shanker is grand daughter of Indian violinist Padma Bhushan N. Rajam and her mother Dr Sangeeta Shanker is also highly acclaimed violinist. Nandini married the renowned Carnatic music fusion artist, Mahesh Raghvan on 9 May 2021.
Education
[edit]Nandini Shankar excelled in academics. She completed her graduation in commerce, and is a qualified Indian Chartered Accountant (ICAI). She completed her M.A. in Music.
Performing career
[edit]Shankar performed at Carnegie Hall[4] in 2016, Théâtre de la Ville[5] in 2021 and The Esplanade[6] in 2023. Countries in which she has performed include the United States,[4] Canada,[7] New Zealand,[8] Switzerland ,[9] the United Kingdom,[10] France, Germany, Belgium,[7] Venice, Luxembourg,[11] Greece, Netherlands,[12] Hungary, the UAE,[13] Bahrain,[14] Bangladesh,[15] Malaysia,[16] Sri Lanka, Indonesia[17] and Singapore.[18] She has performed at festivals including the Europalia,[7] Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Festival,[19] [20] [21] Yaksha (festival),[22] Saptak Festival of Music,[23] Aarohi for Pancham Nishad,[24] ITC SRA Sangeet Sammelan,[25] MERU in Netherlands,[12] Jaya Smriti organised by Hema Malini,[26] Temple of Fine Arts,[16] Bhilwara Sur Sangam,[27] The Association of Performing Arts of India,[28] T. N. Krishnan Foundation,[29] Delhi International Arts Festival,[30] Bengal Music Foundation,[15] and Dover Lane Music Conference.[31] She has been telecast in Idea Jalsa[32] and made a music video with her sister Ragini Shankar.[33]
Nandini Shankar and her sister Ragini have been signed by Decca Records US, a part of Universal Music Group for a full-length music album for their musical ensemble 'Taraana’.[34] She regularly releases singles with her husband Mahesh Raghvan. She is a part of Sakhi, India's first all-girl Indian classical musical band, formed by Kaushiki Chakraborty.[35] She is also a part of 'inStrings', a fusion band combining various genres from across the world.
She resides in Mumbai.
