Isaac Cumming is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL).[1] He plays as a defender and made his debut in round 8, 2018 against the West Coast Eagles at Spotless Stadium.[2] Cumming announced his desire to join the Adelaide Crows during the 2024-2025 off-season as a free agent.[3]

Early life

[edit]

Originally from Broken Hill, Cumming played junior football Broken Hill before joining the Giants Academy. Isaac played in the 2016 League Premiership for his local club - the North Broken Hill Bulldogs, before being drafted with pick 20 in the 2016 AFL draft later that year. He played in the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) for the Western Sydney University Giants (the GWS Giants' NEAFL affiliate).[1]

AFL career

[edit]

Greater Western Sydney

[edit]

In March 2018, Cumming recommitted to GWS until 2020.[4] Cumming played 5 games in 2019, but was omitted from the squad for the club's historic finals series[5] in which they made the grand final. A pre-season calf injury prevented Cumming from playing early in the 2024 season, but returned later and played 6 games for the Giants.[6] Following the Giants' semi-final exit in 2024, Cumming informed the club of his desire to exercise his free agency, seeking a move to South Australia.[7]

Adelaide

[edit]

In September 2024, Cumming announced his desire to join the Adelaide Crows during the free agency period, citing fellow Broken Hill native Taylor Walker as a key influence behind the decision.[3]
