Although the Eugene-Springfield area is the second largest city in Oregon, Eugene can seem like a sleepy small town without much to do. There are many great activities and options out there if you do a bit of searching.
Music, Theater, and Entertainment
There are many entertainment options in Eugene, including theater companies, bands, a ballet troupe, and a symphony.
The Hult Center is where many performances take place. (I think there are ways to get deeply discounted tickets to some shows, but I am not sure how.)
Picnic outside the Cuthbert Amphitheater during concerts.
Outdoor Activities
Outdoor activities are popular in Eugene year round, despite the rain.
An option many people enjoy is hiking, running, or mountain biking along portions of The Ridgeline Trail. This trail system runs largely east-west along the ridgeline on the far southern border of Eugene.
Bike or walk along the Amazon/Fern Ridge trail. This trail runs along Amazon Creek in south Eugene, then turns west to run near W. 11th st. and out towards to the Fern Ridge Reservoir.
Bike or walk along the Willamette River through Alton Baker Park east to Springfield or northwest towards the Beltline.
Swim in the river. (Be careful, the river current can be dangerous.) (What are some good spots?)
Feed the ducks in Alton Baker Park.
Visit the West Eugene Wetlands to see the native plants and wildlife.
Visit the Mount Pisgah Arboretum where you can walk along the river, learn about native plants, or hike up to the top of the mountain.

There are also several museums and art galleries. General admission at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History is $5. $3 for seniors and students. They are closed for each University of Oregon home football game.
