Jílín[1] seu litteris Sinicis 吉林, apud Europaeos olim Kirin,[2] est urbs Sinarum in partibus borealibus iuxta limites Coreae Septentrionalis et Russiae ad flumen Sungari iacens. Ibi anno 2010 homines 1 975 121 habitabant.
Urbs Jilin medio aevo condita iam saeculo XVII sub regno Qing Mandshuriensi arx et tutamen facta est regionum borealium. Imperator Kangxi(en), qui urbem anno 1682 visitabat, agnomen 江城 jiāngchéng "urbs fluvialis" ipse dederit, his versibus dum venationem inter colles circumdatas conducebat compositis:
- 苍岩翠壁两岸横 Ripis ambabus imminent montes asperi rupesque virides.
- 连樯接舰屯江城 Carinae malique litori interligantur urbis fluvialis.[3]
Jilin ab anno 1949 fuit caput novae provinciae Jilinensis, cui nomen urbis datum est. Recentius autem urbs maior Changchun ad dignitatem urbis capitalis eius provinciae erecta est.
