His Butler, Locking Up (その執事、優勝, Sono Shitsuji, Yushō) is the fifty-fourth episode of the Kuroshitsuji anime, and the eighth episode of Kuroshitsuji: Public School Arc.
Summary[]
The Sapphire Owl team tosses Ciel into the air in celebration of their victory in the cricket tournament. Sebastian eventually grabs Ciel, not wanting him to overexert himself; he was injured in the match after all. Ciel says that he forgot his pain in all his happiness, and his words move everyone to tears. When Sebastian then carries Ciel to the sanatorium, everyone present claps for Ciel.
In the sanatorium, Ciel tells Sebastian to be more careful as he treats his wound, and Sebastian reminds him of his words from earlier; they, naturally, were only a lie though. Sebastian proceeds to praise Ciel because all his strategies worked out perfectly and tells him that he retrieved the cricket ball as ordered: For Lawrence's last throw, Ciel handed him a slightly heavier ball to change the ball's trajectory and ensure that Herman would hit him with his bat and everything else would fall into place.
Ciel's final tactic depended on Lawrence still using his "Hunter in the Dark" throw despite knowing it to be a "lost cause." Though Lawrence's stance worked out in Ciel's favor, he does not understand it. Sebastian agrees, saying that he never comprehended the human aesthetic of "losing well" too. He then presents Ciel with his findings: While he was hunting the headmaster, he suddenly vanished into thin air, leaving only his coat and hat behind. Ciel is shocked by this development; after all, Sebastian is a demon, and no human should be capable of escaping from him.
Thereafter, Sebastian reveals that he has prepared dessert for Ciel, knowing that he would ask for a treat. Because McMillan and several other Blue House students barge into the room a moment later, Ciel cannot eat it though. McMillan and the others thank Ciel for bringing them a second "Miracle of Sapphires" and tell him that he was chosen to be the cox for the victory boat procession.
Later, Ciel gets changed into the cox uniform. Unfortunately, it is far too big on him as it was intended to be worn by senior students. Sebastian anticipated this and commissioned a cox uniform from Nina Hopkins for that reason. Wearing his new, tailored uniform Ciel joins his team for the procession, and McMillan takes a photo of the Blue Team.
Lawrence then explains the procedure to everyone: They will row along the Thames to Windsor Castle where they will stand up and salute Queen Victoria who will be waiting for them on a bridge. The lanterns are ignited shortly afterward, and the Blue Team begins the procession. It goes well until they reach the Queen. Ciel stands up and salutes her first, silently telling her that he will present her with the truth behind Derrick's disappearance, but when the other Blue Team members get up too, chaos ensures: While they made strategies and trained for the cricket tournament itself, they forgot to practice for the boat parade. Because of that, everyone loses balance, and the Blue Team falls into the Thames which makes the spectators laugh. A moment later, the fireworks begin, to the wonder and delight of, i.a., Ciel and Lawrence.
With the procession over, the festivities begin. Everyone mingles, even Charles Grey and Charles Phipps visit. They chat and eat together, and when Cheslock starts to play the violin and other students join in, it is time for dancing. McMillan and Soma push Ciel to dance with Elizabeth, Soma asks Mey-Rin to be his partner, two of the Bluewer sisters grab Edgar and Joanne, Tanaka offers his arm to Francis, and Edward escorts Paula to the dance floor.
When the party ends, Ciel and McMillan return to their dormitory. There, Ciel discovers a teacup and a flower on his bed. McMillan explains that it is the invitation to the Midnight Tea Party; Ciel has to pin the queen of the night flower to his lapel, and someone will fetch him when it blooms.
As McMillan said, Clayton comes to get Ciel when the flower blooms. They head to the chapel where the P4 greet Ciel and welcome him to the "elegant, storied, lofty, curious Midnight Tea Party." Cheslock then plays the organ to set the secret mechanism in motion and reveal a hidden passageway. It leads to a secret garden where the headmaster is waiting, sitting at a festively set table; Johann is standing next to him.
The prefects, their fags, and Ciel sit down. And just when Edgar and Lawrence begin the opening toast, Ciel interrupts them. He states that he cannot sit through the tea party as if nothing was amiss when Derrick Arden, Wayne Thewlis, Richard Gleason, Hans Hardy, and Robert Isaac have gone missing. They have not returned home in a year, apparently holed up in their house. Ciel reveals that he was asked to look into the missing students' whereabouts, but he could only learn very little of them, and what he found out was nothing but odd. They were transferred from Red to Purple House, but when Violet Wolf caught fire and its students evacuated, Derrick and the others were not among them. Still, Gregory confirmed that "everyone" had made it out safely, and Ciel doubts that he merely made a mistake.
Ciel says he thinks the five missing students are not in Weston College anymore. In the best-case scenario, they ran away; in the worst case, they are dead. Whatever happened, Ciel is sure that the headmaster and the P4 are covering up the truth. He then pleads for the headmaster to call Scotland Yard, as the five students must have been involved in a serious incident. While the headmaster listens to Ciel, he does not say anything in return. Johann answers in his stead, revealing that Derrick and the others are still on school grounds. He points to the door through which Derrick enters a moment later, to everyone's astonishment.
