《His Hand in Mine》은 미국의 가수 엘비스 프레슬리의 다섯 번째 스튜디오 음반이다. 1960년 11월 RCA 빅터에서 모노, 스테레오로 발매했다. 엘비스 최초의 복음성가 음반으로, 엘비스는 이후로 동류 음반을 두 장 더 발매했다. 녹음지는 RCA 스튜디오 B, 녹음 시일은 1960년 10월 30일, 31일이다. 빌보드 200 최고 13위였다. RIAA에서 1969년 4월 9일 골드를, 1992년 3월 27일 플래티넘을 인정받았다.[1]

배경

평생에 걸쳐 엘비스는 성가에 대한 사랑을 마음 깊숙이에 품고 살았으며, 연예에 앞서, 또는 레코딩 세션에 앞서 종종 목을 풀기 위해 부르고는 했다.[2] 본 앨범 전에도 엘비스는 EP 《Peace in the Valley》에서 자신의 복음성가 사랑을 넉넉히 노현한 바 있었으며, 또한 정규 앨범으로서 복음성가를 취입해보자고 하는 열망 또한 갖추고 있었다. 이것은 엘비스를 할리우드 영화에 진력시킴으로써 그를 가족친화적인 이미지로 탈바꿈하려 했던, 엘비스의 매니저 톰 파커의 계획과도 마침맞는 것이었다.[3]

《His Hand in Mine》의 전곡은 14시간짜리 단일 세션에서 녹음된 것이다. 〈Surrender〉, 〈Crying in the Chapel〉이 이 세션에서 녹음된 산물이지만, 싱글을 위해 보류되었다. 1961년 〈Surrender〉가 싱글로 처음 발표, 차트 1위를 달성했고, 〈Crying in the Chapel〉은 한참 뒤인 1965년 4월 발매되어 3위에 도달했다. 〈In My Father's House〉는 엘비스 프레슬리 편곡 및 번안에 엘비스 프레슬리 뮤직 발매다.

엘비스는 이 뒤로 1969년 영화 《더 트러블 윗 걸즈》의 사운드트랙 녹음에서 〈Swing Down Sweet Chariot〉를 재녹음하게 된다.[9]

재발매

1976년 RCA가 "퓨어 골드"로 이름한 일련의 염가판 앨범에서 재발매되었다. 카탈로그 넘버는 ANL1-1319, 커버는 다른 사진으로 갈아치웠다. 트랙은 초판과 동일하다.[10] 1990년 RCA가 "퓨어 골드" 염가판과 동일한 트랙, 커버의 콤팩트 디스크를 발매했다.

2008년 3월 11일 RCA가 리마스터 판의 CD로 재발매했다. 이번 CD는 EP 《Peace in the Valley》에 실렸던 네 곡이 보너스 트랙이 추가 수록되었다. 이 EP의 내용물은 나중에 《Elvis' Christmas Album》에도 수록되게 된다. 같은 해, 엘비스의 팬클럽 레이블인 팔로우 댓 드림에서 두 장짜리 확장판 앨범을 발매했다.
