Scary inhabitant of Weird Woods, this is one spooky tree!
— Cast Description • Kirby's Epic Yarn

Wicked Willow is a mid-boss in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Physical Appearance[]

Wicked Willow is a ghastly-looking tree with a single purple, pink, and yellow eye. It has different shades of purple leaves and purple vines hanging from its branches. Wicked Willows also grow numerous amounts of spike balls that come in three colors: orange, pink, and purple.

Games[]

Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[]

Wicked Willow only appears in the second extra stage of Grass Land, Weird Woods. Wicked Willow tries to hit Kirby and Prince Fluff with its spike balls that drift down from its branches. Using the Saucer transformation, the spike balls can be absorbed to power up the saucer's discharge attack; this attack must be performed twice to defeat Wicked Willow. An attack from the Saucer can be charged up before reaching Wicked Woods, meaning Kirby only needs to absorb three spike balls for his second attack. Wicked Willow appears twice in the stage, with the second encounter featuring a downward draft and spikes on the ground.

Etymology[]

Wicked Willow's name comes from its hostile behavior and its appearance as a tree.

Its Japanese name, トーセンボク (Tōsenboku), appears to be a portmanteau of the Japanese word for standing in/blocking the way, とおせんぼう/通せん坊 (Tōsenbō); and an onyomi pronunciation for the Japanese word for tree, 木 (boku).

Trivia[]

  • Wicked Willow behaves in a similar manner to Whispy Woods, as they are both trees that use their fruits from their branches to attack, but which can also be used as ammunition against them. In the case of Wicked Willow, it is destroyed by absorbing its spiky projectiles and unleashing an electrical discharge.
  • Wicked Willow the second largest mid-boss to be encountered in the game, second to Whispy Woods himself.
