The Woodland Demon (
Appearance[]
The Woodland Demon was a tall muscular man with pale blue-gray skin and short dark hair. He had two single triangle markings on his shoulders, and the ends of his arms were black and had 3 large and sharp fingers on each hand. He wore a brown sleeveless yukata with dark oval patterns on it and black hakama pants, held together by a gray sash.
Personality[]
As typical of his kind, the Woodland Demon was cruel, merciless, and unsympathetic to humans, even children, as shown when he gleefully laughed as Yuichiro yelled in pain after having his arm severed off, before angrily telling the Tokito brothers to be quiet when they begin to cry in fear, complaining that they were noisy and that no one was going to save them. He also mockingly claims that their lives were meaningless, so it didn't matter whether they existed or not.
History[]
On a hot summer night, the Woodland Demon intruded onto the home of the eleven-year-old Tokito twin brothers, Muichiro and Yuichiro. He at first complained that the only residents were two "brats", but decided to just go for the kill as he approached Muichiro. Yuichiro rushed in to protect his younger brother but had his left arm severed off as he got caught in the demon's attack. As Yuichiro cried in pain, and Muichiro in fear, the demon began to laugh, but he grew irritated at the children's commotion and ordered them to be quiet. As the brothers were backed into a corner, the demon complained that they were being noisy, and mockingly told them that no one would help useless lumbermen like them, as it didn't matter if they existed at all since their lives were worthless.
Suddenly, Muichiro flew into a blind and violent rage, attacking the demon with various tools such as shears, stakes, a rake, a mallet and an axe. He used them to pin the demon to the ground outside, before smashing its head in with a rock. However, due to the lack of Nichirin Swords, the demon could not die, and instead, he writhed around in agony before the sunlight finally disintegrated him.
The event heavily traumatized Muichiro, who would lose his memories and suffer from memory loss for much of his later life. In addition, Yuichiro would later die from his injuries, leaving Muichiro without any relatives
Synopsis[]
Swordsmith Village Arc[]
Three years later, Muichiro, now the Mist Hashira, encountered Upper Rank Five of the Twelve Kizuki, Gyokko. When he endured numerous poison needles from Gyokko's Blood Demon Art in order to protect two villagers, Kozo Kanamori and Kotetsu, Gyokko scoffs at Muichiro's choice and degrades the Swordsmith villagers by claiming that their lives are so worthless that it doesn't matter if they exist or not. Coincidentally, Gyokko's insults were a dead ringer for the Woodland Demon's, causing Muichiro to have a brief flashback of the demon.
When Gyokko traps Muichiro in his Blood Demon Art, Water Prison Pot, Muichiro fully remembers the night that the demon attacked his home and killed his brother and the rage he felt in killing it. The return of his lost memories aided Muichiro in awakening his Demon Slayer Mark.
Abilities[]
Demon Abilities[]
The Woodland Demon possessed the usual powers of his kind, namely potent regeneration and enhanced abilities. He was able to easily sever Yuichiro's arm with a simple swipe. Additionally, it took the eventual arrival of the sun to finally kill him because he was able to survive Muichiro's retaliatory assault on him, though because he was overpowered by the enraged young boy and pinned down, he could not escape.
