James Bond prepares to open the Box, as seen in Trouble Spot (1971-72).
The Box was a fictional sealed metal container of great importance to Western and Soviet intelligence agencies. Unknown to many of the parties hunting for it, it contained the skull of Russian double agent, Piotr Vassilyevitch Grigorov. The item appeared prominently in the James Bond comic strip, Trouble Spot, which ran in The Daily Express newspapers between December 28, 1971 and June 10, 1972.
Appearance[]
While operating behind the Iron Curtain, Mike Channing came into possession of a Russian double agent's skull: vital airtight evidence of his demise. To continue feeding misinformation into the West via the deceased agent, the KGB dispatched one of their operatives, Baron Sharck, to reacquire the skull. Before he departed on a final, ill-fated mission behind the Iron Curtain, the spy entrusted the skull to his wife in a welded metal box. She hid the Box in a coastal cave near Belluna, California. Channing was subsequently caught by the Soviets and imprisoned in Poland. After his escape, he travelled to Paris but met an untimely death in a traffic accident en route to the French Riviera. His identity, and presumably mission, was subsequently assumed by James Bond; who eventually found the Box and dispatched Sharck. Grigorov's skull and identity was subsequently confirmed by the British Secret Service via dental records - closing the case.
