The flag of Austria
Austria (German: Österreich), officially the Republic of Austria (German: Republik Österreich), is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It consists of nine states. Austria's neighboring countries are Liechtenstein and Switzerland to the west, Italy and Slovenia to the south, Hungary to the east and Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic to the north.
The characteristic features of the Austrian landscape are the Alps and the Danube.
In The Living Daylights, James Bond goes to other parts of Europe escaping into Austria from Czechoslovakia, where he visits Vienna. The start of The Spy Who Loved Me has a skiing chase sequence set in Austria as well. Austria is also in Spectre, as it is the birth place of Franz Oberhauser, later known as Ernst Stavro Blofeld. 007 also travels to Austria during his mission.
Characters[]
Probably the most notable Austrian characters in Bond series is the Obenhauser family. Hannes Oberhauser was one of orphan James Bond's father figures. In the cinematic Daniel Craig continuity, Franz Oberhauser (alias Ernst Stavro Blofeld) would become the most powerful of James Bond's enemies during the era.
In terms of legacy characters, the Austrian Nationalist Adolf Hitler started a World War which reshaped the world of security and espionage.

- Austria was originally meant to feature in the Unmade Bond 15, a proposed reboot for the series, as the location of the pre-title sequence. In it, Bond, a 20yo something Royal Navy Lieutenant and a assistant military attaché, gets involved against a Austrian count who, during a hang-gliding event, causes Bond to fall into Krimml waterfalls. Bond survives the rapids and goes to fight the count and his henchmen at a opera, before being arrested by Police and taken to British Embassy.
