Unnamed, the character was a fictional bodyguard employed by the Swiss banker, Lachaise. A minor antagonist portrayed by South African stuntman, Wade Eastwood, he appeared briefly in the 1999 James Bond film, The World Is Not Enough, and its accompanying novelisation.
Biography[]
One of the three unnamed bodyguards who worked for the Swiss banker, Lachaise, the man is present during his meeting with British agent James Bond in November 1999.[1] The bodyguard frisks the spy on his arrival at the Bilbao office of La Banque Suisse de L'Industrie and removes his Walther P99. He is apparently unaware of his employer's dealings with the anarchist, Renard, nor his plan to use 007 to deliver a fertilizer bomb to oil magnate, Sir Robert King, disguised as his own money. The man is the first to pull his Colt M1911A1 when the agent threatens Lachaise. After Bond disorientates the guards using a flashbang hidden inside his Walther, a short fight ensues, where the bodyguard is knocked out. While unconscious, his employer is murdered by an assassin. With the police on their way, Bond attempts to escape through a window, but is prevented by the henchman, who has recovered and now holds him at gunpoint. However, before being able to fire, the bodyguard is fatally shot by a sniper lurking somewhere in the adjacent building.
Alternate continuities[]
In Raymond Benson's novelization, 007 is met in the office building by Lachaise's three Armani-clad thugs, who are described as looking "more like professional wrestlers than bankers".[2] The narrative continues almost identically to the film, until Lachaise is killed by the cigar girl. She escapes via a zip-wire suspended between buildings. When Bond turns, he is met by the bodyguard, who has recovered and is blocking the way, gun in hand. Bond is saved by Renard, who fatally shoots the man through his heart using a gas-operated Belgian FN FAL sniper rifle with an attached laser sight.[2]
Trivia[]
- In a deleted scene from The World Is Not Enough reveals that Renard shot the bodyguard, using a Romanian FPK/PSL sniper rifle.
