Close to the Goal (近づくゴール, Chikazuku Gōru, "Approaching the Finish Line") is the two hundred and fifty-fourth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

The two cars approach the rough downhill section. Tomoyuki plans to leave Takumi behind.

At the finish line, Fumihiro asks Ryosuke what advice he had given Takumi, but is shocked when he says that he hadn't given any. Ryosuke explains that he'd just shown him how he would take the course with his racing style, as Takumi is able to understand other styles intuitively. He isn't sure if any of his strategies will work, as they aren't used to the constant passing that is standard for professional racers.

The two cars enter the second section of the course, and Takumi makes use of Ryosuke's techniques, but it takes all of his concentration to not fall behind. The Civic's setup keeps it stable on the rough road service, allowing Tomoyuki to put some distance between him and the Eight-Six. Takumi realises that they are approaching the finish line, and turns his lights off again. Tomoyuki notices him disappear, but refuses to let him pass.

At the finish line, Fumihiro is told that Takumi is driving without his lights on, shocking both him and Keisuke.

Despite being unable to see him, Tomoyuki can sense that Takumi is right behind him. He's surprised that Takumi has kept his lights off for as long as he has, especially at the speed they are going.
